This 1956 Braun TS2 tube radio was light-years ahead of its competition in both design and aesthetics. While most radios of the era were bulky, trimmed in gold, and housed in dark wood, the Braun TS2 introduced sleek, minimalist lines that signaled a shift in modern design. Even back then, Braun was paving the way toward the iconic, clean look that would define its future, later perfected by the legendary Dieter Rams. His “less but better” philosophy helped create designs that remain timeless, even over 60 years later.
In this video, I kick off the restoration process by focusing on the power supply, where I’ll be trying out my custom Silicon Diodes with MOSFET voltage dropper circuit to replace the original selenium rectifier.
