Are there any books/manuals out there regarding ship model restoration? I just purchased a scratch-built wood model of the USS Covington frigate, built by the ship's Chief Engineer shortly after WWII. My father was radioman on this ship. It needs mostly cleaning and some restoration of lines, a gun and a propeller. I find lots of books about model building online but nothing about restoration techniques.
I just bought a old model ship at a flea market, the sails a black with dirt from over the years. How can I clean them with taking Dutch design of them
Could you or plain a little more about "dark and gloomy" Dutch model boats. That is how I have always built my model boats. The Americans make pristine boats that look like thy came off the assembly line of a 1950s factory. Not real. Real boats from the historical past always looked weathered. Even while they were being built out doors.
