Yes it was painted sometime before we purchased the home. We'll have more updates on the porch to feature in future videos. As for the plans for that wall, we'll tell you, but only if you pinky promise to come back and watch the videos we have planned :)
The porch is clearly an early 1900's addition. It is NOT Greek revival. There is absolutely NOTHING Greek about it. I would call it Colonial Revival or 1910's Classical Revival. The capitals are of the Scamozzi Ionic order, named after an Italian renaissance architect who worked under Andrea Palladio. Scamozzi capitals have their volutes (scrolls) angled at 45 degrees.
Thanks Marvin! You’re right about the columns being from the Roman Order. So let’s go with Classical Revival. The Inspector put the porch at right around 1900, although we have no actual evidence for the exact date. What we do know is that 3 sisters were the first to live at the address. Their brother owned the property as an inheritance from the father. According to the will, the sisters would be allowed to live there as long as they remained unmarried. It all makes us wonder how it came about that they added the porch…
