You sound like Marshall on wristwatch revival ,your pretty good I need a microscope
@WeekendWatchRepair
@WeekendWatchRepair 11 месяцев назад
I've heard that a few times now. I seriously do not hear any similarities. Marshall's voice is superb for this type of narration. Mine makes me cringe! Thanks though, lol. Yes, a stereo microscope was an absolute game changer for me. I'd highly recommend getting one if you want to delve into this hobby. I still have loupes (which I never really could get used to), and use them on rare occasion, but mostly I work under the microscope.

@WeekendWatchRepair
@WeekendWatchRepair 11 месяцев назад
Much appreciated! It is not a large watch by today's standards, as nearly all of them weren't that were made during that time. It is however a typical man sized watch of the time. I personally have larger sized wrists so that is why I keep XL length straps on hand. This watch would probably look much better on someone with regular sized wrists than mine (which are 8.25"). However, it is a classic watch and I'd wear it still. I have other vintage watches that are about this size and wear them regularly.

Bought a Hamilton "Automatic" in 1955 "with my own money," on a weekly payments plan at Stephenson Jewelers in Valdosta GA. Later, in 1970, I used to hand it over the seat for infant son Scott, to "teeth" on the expansion band. In 2014, I gave him the old watch. He is now 56. The band still has his tiny teeth marks in it. @WeekendWatchRepair
@WeekendWatchRepair 11 месяцев назад
I cleaned many watch parts in an ultrasonic before I got a cleaning machine. I've still got an old L&R that I used in between the ultrasonic and the Elma. When doing ultrasonic, just keep any parts with shellac out of the cleaner, and do those manually (pallet fork & balance). Save yourself a potential headache!

This was incredible, my gf grandfathers hamilton wasnt running so I offered to take a look , jumped on RU-vid and looked for a video about vintage hamilton watches and sure enough it was an m-89-2 had no idea this was an eta watch , mivement was pristine but wasnt running and there was a dial screw missing.. blew on the balance and it would barely move with a puff of air , no wobble no excessive endshake just stiff ... took off the dial threw it under the microscope and there was the dial screw , jammed between the balance cock and the ratchet wheel , i cant take the balance off because the balance cock lip hits thexratchet wheel and i cant let down the spring because the screw is lodged into the ratchet wheel teeth .. so i placed my tweezers under the screw and lightly pryed and the screw flew out and tge balance started . Watch is running well now except the screw must have somehow broken the drive wheel pinion on the automatic assembly , so for now its a hand wind untill I source the wheel ...

Nice service. I found this video when researching my late 1960’s Hamilton automatic RGP diamond 10k white gold watch. It is all original including its mesh band. This was bought from the original owners son. It sat for the past 11 years in a drawer after the death of his father. I fully expected to have a service performed as nobody new if it ever had been done. Well this thing is rock solid running currently. I cleaned and polished it up and for now it will shine on my wrist until it proves it needs to be serviced.

Some vintage watches have a beauty in their simplicity when it comes to its aesthetics. But, as in this Hamilton, when you see it's movement and overall inner appeal, you truly appreciate the quality of its workmanship .!

Thoroughly enjoying your channel and your genuine and sincere style. Keep posting! I would love to see you do some classic Swiss chrono movements. Landeron, Valjoux etc. thanks again!!

Great suggestion. I have my eye on a couple, as it's something I'd really like to show on the channel. It is just a cost thing for me, as I am purchasing all of the watches shown on the channel. I've done my own Swiss chronographs before I began filming. Now that I have a channel to consider content for, I've been looking for a good project at a reasonable cost. Hopefully one of these days I'll find the right watch. It just has to be something that'll make for a good project, but also be something that I'll want to add to my collection once it's completed. I'm really glad to hear that you are enjoying the channel. Thanks a bunch!

Glad you like them. That means a lot to me. Thank you. There is a pretty big difference between the first few videos from 6 months ago and now. I hope that I continue to learn new and better techniques to film and edit these watches and the video quality will continue to improve.

Absolutely love watching your videos and have learned a lot from you. I am a "very" amateur watchmaker and just finished my first complete rebuild of a 60's Croton.

The movement is so pristine for a 50 year old or so watch. Keep up the good work sir. Congratulations for reaching 1K subscribers.

Thanks so much. I agree, that movement was in phenomenal shape. Perhaps since it is a one-piece case, it was rarely ever taken apart. The winner is going to be getting a great watch for sure.
