I always remind myself that I can make it through another week of work because on Fridays, I get to watch another masterpiece from Craig and Dan. Thank you guys!
The trick with bearing races (around the 9 minute mark) is to put a weld bead around the inside of the race. When the weld cools, the race contracts slightly and lets you get them out.
I've got a farmer hack for you to remove bearing races. Run a weld right on the bearing surface it will shrink when it cools and fall out. 100% works. Great videos, thank you.
A little millwright trick: if you take a small mig welder and weld a bead a third of the way around the inside of that outer stem bearing race and let it cool, it will fall out.
Yeah I was thinking the same but for the 20 seconds of taping it with a hammer with a race punch and by the time you get the welder and the gas turned on it doesn’t really pay.
This has been my favorite episode so far man. I’ve spent so many hours completely restoring my 02 yz250. I feel your pain with the cleaning Craig haha.
I totally understand the buzzkill from cleaning. I am happy to replace every component, and rebuild every aspect of a bike until it rides like new, but cleaning and painting every unnecessary damn thing will never happen. Much respect.
The Spanish game show interlude music @1:52 was awesome. You should use festive tracks like this more often, and play different songs native to the region of each bike your working on ;)
My dad bought me a 79 like this in 84, first big bike and I still have it and am in the process of resto-modding it. I have a 77 IT175 as well that is my rider. Love these bikes and really diggin this series. That silencer was packed from the factory, I didn't see any on that baffle when you pulled it out. In case you weren't sure. Can't wait to hear it run sir!
Bearded you and Dan make a great team.and i love the content getting the old Yamaha dirt bikes to go and celebrating at the end .i love the puns and music that come up during the clip.almost feel like i am sitting in the corner in your shed.I had a CT 2 Yamaha 175 with the low steel front guard.and first model that you could fit the famous Boyesens reeds to.one day out riding i stopped for a minute but when i restarted she went backwards which is how i managed to get home very slowly.the cause was a sheared magneto key.but i have been told all two strokes run backwards if you push start them that way keep 'em coming.Dallas
A blast from the past,i have had two of these over the years, great fun, then i bought a 465,an absolute brute of a bike and not for the faint hearted, great video guys
Thoroughly enjoy your videos, love the constant commentary and explanation. Do struggle some days translating from US to UK; Triple clamps are Yokes, Wrist pin is a Gudeon pin, Spring clip is a circlip!. I expect you know but a suggestion for the fork legs, crack to bottom bolt loose before taking the pressure off the fork springs. Sometimes the spring pressure will stop the internals spinning whilst the bolt comes undone. Cheers thoug, realy enjoy your vids.
Great video When fitting the carb slide try a plastic disc with a slot cut into it something like a Pringle top you can slide it on to the cable and hold the spring back wile fitting the slide it’s a trick I was shown years ago and it works
Love watching what your do. Especially this IT project. Done a fair amount of the same work on bikes over the years so I can relate. I’ll admit I like working on them as much as riding them. Cheers!
I love Craig and I love the channel. I also know Craig is not a professional painter but it physically pained me to see him take all the time and attention to clean those parts and then shoot big globs of rattle can paint all over those parts and pieces. UGHGHGHGHGHGH!! Still love you Craig. You're making me want to get a project motorcycle and I don't even have a license to drive a motorcycle
Your videos made me want to dig out my dads Yamaha v star out of the shed and fix it up it’s been in there for least a decade just gotta get him to let me buy it
As a recent subscriber I think what would really help grow your viewership is to actually show these bikes running up and down the street at min. It’s like leaving us on a cliff. We wanna see you go ride the thing!
Love all the self filmed style stuff the first few min of the video before you start working on the exhaust. nice departure from your guys usual style vids. Good work.
I'm really enjoying this IT series. My best friend had one in the early '80s and it was awesome ! I've got a plastic gas tank for my latest project that I'm trying to remove spray paint from and I used your razor blade trick on it , worked amazing ! Thanks !
I had a DT175 with multiple head gasket issues. I drove it with a big mainjet to avoid a piston seizure and it then ran only 55 mph. Steel bolts in an aluminium cylinder - they always came out although using a torque wrench!
At 9:05 top tip to remove outer race run a bead of weld on the race and it will shrink it and make it easier to come out...yep I am and old bloke m/cycle mechanic.
I raced professional motocross in the 60’s-70’s. No mufflers. Ears have paid the price. I miss the smell of BLENZAL. Maico, Bultaco, Jawa, Puch, Sachs, Penton, Husky, CZ, Montessa. I raced Montessa 125 and CZ400. Japanese took everything over. Maico and Husky still around. Remember Maico 501. Suzuki 400 was cool. Preston Petty with his plastic fenders.
I know exactly how you feel when you start an and you’re constantly clean! It feels like it’s never gonna stop! Till you cut corners! Just to see if built!
A small tip, find a six inch 1/4 inch rod, cut a slot in one end of it, so it’ll hold a strip of red or grey scotch bite material. It’s useful for reaming our bolts holes, bushing, or bearing races. Of course chuck it up in a drill. It works! Later.
I hear you loud and clear brother.. sometimes a project just gets a bit monotonous and you put it aside for a bit.. then when you get back to it then it's like "yay, I'm doing this again!".. 😂😂😂 But seriously.. working on cars is not the same any more.. cos I haven't worked on a bike aeons and it sucks.. working on bikes is so relaxing cos things are easier to get to physically.. cos bikes are smaller than cars.. But great video Craig.. i cant wait to see the next part brother.. even if it doesnt get done in the next one, it's fun watching you and Dan as yo'all make me chuckle with your antics.. Much love.. keep twisting and shouting..
I pack my bearings the old fashion way. Fill a zip lock halfway with grease, drop in bearing and squish it around. For me, those bearing packers make more of a mess than anything.
I get it man, that’s why these days my interests are equally divided between bikes, my 90’ Chevy Silverado 4x4, my 98’ Toyota 4Runner, and Analog Synthesizers.. When I get bored with one interest I just hop to another, and I cycle around like that so I’m never really bored for too long...
I have a 1964 Honda CT200 (aka Trail 90). All original. Engine was full of water and seized bad. Its been soaking in oil for about 3 years now. But Im in Seattle, and the 90 is at my EX-mother-in-laws house in SoCal! THAT'S a problem! 😂 Wouldve been a great fixer for you.
Always love the content and your knowledge :). I have tried so many times to get my vapor blaster worker an its like my sandblaster so hit in miss its just annoying
Those dots on the handlebar clamps, not only denote the top but you are supposed to tighten the dot side to zero clearance then the other to tighten the bar.
He packed the bearings wrong because the phone didn't ring as soon as you get the grease on your hands... happens everytime I'm at work packing bearings....😂😂
I like that you left the part where you were gonna remove the races and then decided it was too big a pain in the video, some guys would go back and edit that to seem like they never intended to remove them but in reality that stuff happens all the time in a shop
If ya hit that tank with a propane or oxy acetylene torch it'll renew the color as well as remove any scratches, and light gouges with no sanding required... Plus it makes the plastic less prone to cracking as it rejuvenates the plastic making it softer, less brittle again..
I had one and if i remember blaster motor parts are some interchangable i remember need a clutch and we use blaster disc and spring but thats 20 years ago i think the cyclider was possible swappable but like said long time since that bike was around and iam from Pennsylvania and it sat in Bedford well sold family some time hole another story my uncle has shop there Ritchie cycle shop but iam not sure if hes doing it full time any more ill tell you amount of old rare bike he use to have sprawled around it been many years since i been there so don't no whats still around.
My bike may be considered unfixable by the majority of other people. Its a 1996 yamaha rt180 and one of the previous owners buddies removed the oil injection and didn't say anything and when the PO got the bike back he put straight gas in it and it cooked the rod and he got rid of it and the engine was disassembled around 20 years ago so parts got lost and now i got the bike and im gonna restore it mechanically because I like a good challenge. Wish me luck because some parts are hard to find so i have to think outside the box.
Craig I have a couple vintage dirtbikes an a atc if your ever up in the northwest area come by I'll send ya home with one if you turn wrench with me for a few hrs ❤💯
