Restoring an 18th Century British Estate | DIY Bedroom Floor to Ceiling | My Tiny Estate

One of the most rewarding experiences of restoring a room is finally finishing it! After first discovering an old fireplace behind a wall, weeks of plastering and painting, installing beams in the ceiling and a new heating system in the floor -- we are getting close. Once the carpet and new bed arrives, we are almost ready for the big reveal. But first -- Borja’s mother helps us restore an old dresser. She and Borja come up with the perfect hack for lining the drawers that anyone can recreate on a next-to-nothing budget.
We have been working non-stop but we couldn’t do any of this without the help of both our families. We are so grateful to them! They are the best!

She's getting a grandchild!!! The low dresser will make a great changing table I had a basket with burp clothes, wipes several diapers and sizes powder and pentaton butt cream. (teething causes horrific rashes, honestly they go from abject misery back to glorious dewy pink perfect skin! in 24 to 48 hours,)It saves running up and down flights of stairs. miraculous! Your going to need a carpet, bind it and use it for tummy time, there good to know its clean and there's no animal fur so roll it wherever so you can enjoy the time while he explores!

@@mytinyestateWhen parents do stuff for their children they feel they help them with something more valuable then taking them for lunch or drinks, sometimes the stuff that you perceive as a work is a pleasure for us, parents, because helping you accomplish your dream is a permanent achievement for any parent. So don’t feel bad. Your mom can have tapas whenever she wants, helping you guys on a period property is much more meaningful.

Family is everything. I am a caregiver for my 89 year old mother. My case worker for her care and to provide support for me gave me advice that may help you both. Schedule on the calendar time each week to step away from both of your houses. It can be even for an hour. Ideas might be to Pack a picnic in the park, go to a pub, a date for dinner, or a spa day. For family maybe an afternoon tea or BBQ lunch or tapas /taco bar(I live in Arizona and it is taco Tuesday tonight). One thing, I would recommend is no filming content otherwise it will seem like work. The room looks fantastic! Home ownership/design is never ending. I have been 14 years in my home. The hardest part is editing out the stuff to donate or trash. Not that with all your space that could be a problem. 😂. Cheers to your success!

LOVELY room! I would only make these 2 tiny suggestions. Anytime you are working with old drawers/dressers. Either clear coat the inside or paint the inside of the drawers, otherwise, the fabric will maintain the old drawer scents. Additionally all the pictures lean towards horizontal which make the room appear short in height. Maybe source a few vertical types. :)

The room looks great! I hope the bathroom wall patch worked well. What you said about valuing your time is so important. I’m still trying to learn it myself. I love DIY (and saving money) but I work full time plus some so I’m constantly pushing my projects off. Sometimes it’s much more efficient to hire things out instead of trying to be Superman. Can’t wait for the flower show next week!

Another wonderful and fun episode! Is the shorter carpet common in the UK? I am a follower of yours from the US, it seems like moderate to higher pile carpet is more ‘common’ here in the US. It also seems like most DIY/renovation shows only show tile, stone, hardwood floor; it’s nice to see you utilizing carpet. Comfier on the feet! 🙂

Thank you! I think it really is based on taste! Thick pile carpets are super comfortable but I not that many people uses them anymore 🤷🏽‍♂️ We do love a bit of carpet ☺️

Yet another charming episode! The fabric drawer lining elevates the piece and feels so appropriate for that bedroom. Do you have any of your special wallpaper left over? That might be an option for lining some drawers elsewhere.

That is actually a good call! We contacted Osmo to see if there was a product they could recommend but we are still waiting to hear back 😅 I think we will have to just attempt it ourselves

❤❤❤. But quick question: The door lock on the on suite in the bedroom does the lock have a key for the inside, shouldn’t it be turned around if not; so that you are able to lock from the inside of the bathroom? 🙂

This is a new range of colour that we made called ‘Old Soul White’ for the off white and ‘Soft Parchment’ which are both from Fenwick and Tilbrook 😊

I had the same though coming from Spain where carpets do not exist so it was a cultural shock but I love them now and we do deep Clean them with a special wet vacuum in our monthly maintenance

So much talking and no restoration shots, just aftershots of things arriving then when they are fitted in place, disappointing really cause it would be so much more interesting to watch the progress as it happens and you both are very likeable to watch.
