Get on LMC truck, they have literally everything you’d ever need. The bench seat is in great shape. Get a new vinyl cover for it.

Drill out the spot wields you can replace the roof panel same thing with the floor pan it's better to replace the rusty areas than repair them do it right the first time instead of doing it in 10 years

So much fun. My first car was a 1972 Datsun 1200 under the hood had a lot of room like this truck. I went with my dad to the junk yard he was always working on a vehicle, and it was raining out. I saw behind the chain link fence this bright orange little hatchback. I bought it with my first paycheck & my friends first paycheck loaned to me until next pay day. That's a good friend. I loved working on it with my dad. We replaced the hoses, and what not. I even learned to spark it up with a screwdriver under the hood when it would stall out on me. It was a stick shift. I wish I had that car still. I hope to get another one someday. I love that you are doing this, I think you should keep it as close to original as possible like Tyler said. I know it will be awesome once it's done. I don't think this was a bad idea, but could be an expensive idea, lol. Bull knows his stuff, looking forward to this series. Yee Yee! 🤘

-Clean up the current paint and just clear coat it. -Pull plugs add a little oil in the cylinder and crank it over this will help line the cylinder walls. Put a little gas in the cyclones after and keep cranking this will clean out the oil. Then install new plugs. -Also pull the distributor and lightly sand the contacts. Sitting for so long you could have a surface layer on the contacts inside. -Fresh gas and fuel filter because it’s been sitting may of compromised the filter material. -Do a carb clean on it. If these are done then you will have a better chance of it running well when it does start up.

This is bringing me back memories. My first Truck was a 1983 2 Door Nissan Stick Shift. My Pawpaw gave it to me before he passed away when I turned 13, I'm 16 now and I drive that Truck through the Fields or when I go to School. Everyone has a Nice Car or Pickup Truck and here I come with a Light Blue Nissan with Rust on the Tailgate. People look at me like I am a complete idiot but they can't do the things I do.

I 💖 how y'all are restoring this truck that has so much sentimental value associated with your Dad. 😏 By the way, ask Bull if he'd like to restore a 1954 Chevrolet pickup😉! (I'm here in TEXAS) In his spare time of course...I bought it right after my husband passed away because it was the year I was born and I had a Sentimental attachment to it for obvious reasons. No pressure... when I win the lottery I will get her restored! Best to you and Bull and your crew for gettin Dad's truck running again!

Oooohhh you’re not trying to get it running, you are seriously looking to restore it! Oh my goodness! I am so excited! Definitely do your best to obtain the closest match to the original paint color, please! General Motors is currently building ventilators instead of vehicles but I am certain at some point they will be able to replicate that color for you. That full seat is in such phenomenal condition, I am shocked. This is so exciting, I cannot wait to follow this. My husband bought and restored a 73 Trans Am in his 20s. He put in a 455. It had the original white leather interior as well as the white spongy honeycomb wheels. It was like a little bit of heaven here on earth. I truly look forward to following this restoration with you all. Big Bull Shipley! You should know that I giggle every time I hear Granger say your name. Hoping that no one ever messes it up. Lol!!! Odds of you seeing this are slim but My dad special ordered a 78 short bed C10 brand new back in 77.I started to redo it a while back and got almost finished before my son was born with major heart trouble and caused me to sell it to pay for doctor bills.speaking from experience LMC is your friend man. Its sentimental obviously so in my opinion I would stick to original as possible. I kept the original steering wheel on mine mainly because it just felt good knowing dad had his hand wrapped around it before even had his thumb print embedded in it. He would scratch a line in the top of the cab with his pocket knife every time it clicked over 100k miles. Also Those trucks are bad for the rubber in the cab mount bushings rotting out making the body look all caddy wompus. Go back with urethane it solves that problem. The original paint code should be in the glove box. My personal opinion I'd keep it as original as possible but it's yours so do with it like you see fit. Love the channel.

I’m a Squarebody Chevy nut! I have my 1983 Chevy K20 and a 1986 Chevy C10. There is a junkyard in North Houston packed full of old squarebody trucks that should have most of what you need. I highly recommend going back with old junkyard metal fenders that need new paint and such because the new aftermarket panels are not near as strong and are made of cheap Chinese steel. Same with fasteners and bolts. Build a awesome Heart of America truck with American iron and pride. If I was closer to Georgetown I’d gladly help and donate time but I’m way down in Houston.

So many options for a theme! But I'd try and stay as close to original color as possible. Possibly put the Earl's Feed Store logo on the doors? Or maybe a WW2 B24 bomber theme to honor your grandfather? In any case I do think it needs a little suspension lift and bigger tires!

I have restored these old GMC / Chevys and have a 1977 Chevrolet K20 being restored as we speak. LMC and classicindustries.com will have just about everything you will need . Good luck , can't wait to see the finished truck. Mike Saxby

Awesome idea, love seeing it come back to life! I'm in a truck club here in Tulsa with classic GM trucks! Also, if you need any info there are a few great facebook pages dedicated to these trucks and people that would give you any knowledge on this truck you need to know! Great trucks that really are simple to work on!
