There are many ways to bring color back to your antlers. These are the steps I took to bring this paddle back to life!
1. Sand down the antler until smooth (if antler is chalk)
2. Add wood filler into any cracks
3. Sand down the antler again until any excess filler is gone.
4. Rub down entire antler in vegetable oil (optional)
5. Apply desired stain starting from the back side

Nice Job, I restore elk antlers with Bri- Wax , less forgiving and wont soak into the antler as fast unless u melt it, it also gives a nice mat shine on them, also if you blow into you plastic or rubber gloves before you put them on it helps Great work!!

Good video man. I like your pacing. If you run over the finished product with sandpaper or fine steel wool it will give it the highlights and it looks pretty sharp.

I think that's a whole lot better than a chalk, I'm going to try this

I know this is an older video but I thought I'd add my two cents. I have restored some sheds and dead heads the same way. After you're all done with the staining try taking some steel wool to the antler. you can take off as much or as little as you like. in the end it made them look more realistic, like they were naturally rubbed.

Looks good! Just found my first moose paddle yesterday but it is a chalk and I was looking to color it. I will use your video but was wondering if you clear coat it with anything? And does wood stain work?

Right on. I have a really large shiras set I want to restore and mount to hang on my wall.

Looks good you should color an elk shed and video it!!?

I found a set of shiras moose sheds that at the least have a 52 inch spread. They are probably wider than 52 inches, but I am being conservative. I would love to mount them and do a total restore. Any suggestion of how to restore broken points and get rid of green. Would really like to hang them on my wall with a nice mount kit.

I had a white red stag antler I had the match to so I needed to stain the white side to match the fresh brown side, I used a base coat of potassium permangonate, then sanded down the tips to make them ivory like, then i rubbed in mud onto the tops where the antler is darker around the crown, finally where the match side was pretty dark i crushed some coal and mixed with water an drubbed that on, the finished product is absolutely incredible. Only bad thing is its slightly darker than the match so it may need a water down or I might stain the fresh one a bit as its lost a bit of colour..

Put a coat of mop and glow on after you’re done. Puts a little shine to it but makes it easier to dust off

Hi , I'm thinking of painting a scene on my antler but I'm have to sand down the inner part of the surface of the curvature of the antler for nice surface to paint in oil & was wondering how or what to use to sand down to a fairly smooth surface & would i need to seal it after which is what I wold want to prevent discoloration from happening after painting what is your thought on the subject as I would like your input as I'm looking for some suggestions, and thanks for post your antler demo of restoration for the antler, would luv to hear your input .

Nice work! Once you had the materials gathered, about how much total time did you spend from start to finish?
@chicoestrada5183
@chicoestrada5183 9 месяцев назад
Not long really, wax , brass small brush, 1000 sand paper for high lights, brass brush for crevices, cotton rag to rub to shine. Super easy
@chicoestrada5183

It depends on how big the antlers
