Restoring Hope is an example of the collaborative effort being conduction in SE Idaho to improve water quality, fish and wildlife habitat, stream stability while providing for public access and recreation adventures. The Caribou-Targhee National Forest and numerous partners came together across ownership boundaries to restore watershed function within the Jackknife drainage. The holistic watershed restoration approach focuses on decommissioning and relocating poorly placed roads and trails located on unstable slopes next to stream channels, replacing undersized road and trail stream crossings, restoring eroding and disconnected stream and riparian systems, and upgrading non-functioning water irrigation diversions.

This is a wonderful project. I worked on the Soda Springs Ranger District seasonally as a Range Tech from 1978 to 1986. The drainage's off Caribou Mountain have endured a lot of abuse for many many years. Trailing sheep right above McCoy Creek is one of the worst abuses I have ever seen. The Caribou National Forest finally required the sheep to be trucked in. Re-vegetating the stream banks of McCoy Creek was my passion. Another abuse of the headwaters of McCoy Creek is the Caribou National Forest road crew loads up the land slumps along the McCoy Creek RD #087 and dumps the slump soils into the headwaters of McCoy Creek. Please stop it. The riparian area and stream banks of N Fork Tincup Creek still are being abused by bands of sheep being herded down to them for watering. Please build more watering ponds on seeps, or pipe water to ponds from springs in the drainage away from the riparian areas and streambanks. Mike Panting

This was done in 2013. What does this area look like in 2018?

@David Hansen I've been wondering the long term effects on projects like this. Do you have any articles or videos showing the after math I've been looking.
