I love seeing you give your mom a hand on her VW. It's a hidden gem. I'm in the midst ofdoing the same thing to my '69. Just finished lowering tge front end and adding disc brakes, fresh 1776cc engine. Took me 16 yrs to finally dive into it. Hope to see more on this project with you.

1967 Was considered the best year for the bug . One thing I have to tell you it was always 12 Volt . 12 V started in late 1966, and in 67 all were 12 V. Good work putting it back in shape. It’s fun but tedious !

Believe 1967 was the first year for factory 12 Volt electrical systems .
@derekobidowski3301
@derekobidowski3301 2 года назад
yes from August 1966 onwards they are 12v but remained 6v on the euro models and 1200 engine even on the 1968 model. the early 1967 models to December 1966 will have the seatback lock release levers on them its a arm with a knob on them and have the earlier coat hooks and assist straps. Janurary 1967 the seat back release got located to the seat back by a plastic knob and trim and the got the later coat hooks and assist straps 1967 is a transition year for the US required headlight assemblies and the big changes occured in August 1967 for the 1968 models

67 was the first year they went to a 12 volt system.

All U.S. model year 1967 type 1s were 12 volt. The original engine was the 1500 cc. You are missing the backup lights that mount to the rear bumper.

Fun project. A couple of notes. The front fenders have been replaced. The rear bumper is not original. The rubber around the rear quarter windows has been replaced. The floor would have had rubber mats and not carpet. Following.

67' is the 1st year of 12V, Brake reservoir is leaking. Gas tank is dented from the spare tire. Take a piece of undercoating in the fender well to find the original color. Keep all the black rubber knobs they are 67' only, no knob on ashtray..

This looks a lot like a 1966 rather than a 1967. In 1967 it was a 12 V system and did not need conversion. The 66 was a 6 volt. Also in 67 there were backup lights on the back bumper. 1967 had 2 versions the early and the late 67. The early 67 had low back seats like the ones you have here. The late 67 had low back seats but also had side seat latches that would latch up where you could move the seat back forward to make getting in the back seats easier. The trim on the car does look a lot like 67 however the front hood of a 67 did not have Volkswagen insignia on the front hood. The 66 had that. The other thing about a 1967 is that it was a 1500 CC engine. The color was probably like an ivory white which was common at that time. Maybe it is a real early 67 but I noticed a few items that I thought maybe would be of interest. The reason I know a lot about these cars is that my first car was a 64, the 2nd was a late 67. Then I got another old one for my brother and updated it. I sold my navy blue 67 in 1989. I wish I still had it. It was like showroom condition. It had a sunroof and was a late 67, the best of any year to date as far as I'm concerned. Well congrats on your VW. Looks great.

TABCO makes a really piece 18ga.Stamped in Cleveland ,Ohio from American metal.They're made in quarter sections, so you can replace just the rear or front.

While I can understand wanting to fix the car up for your mother however, you should have done some research. This bug, being a 67 with 30,000 miles on it with all original equipment on it likely would have fallen into the category of a survivor car. That designation would make it significantly worth more than if you did a complete restoration of it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating, I just think you may have reconsidered doing anything to it if you had known that information.

1967 the car you have its made up to December 1966 as the front seats would of have the seatback lock release levers and inside the early coat hooks and the assist straps for the back seat. Janurary 1967 the release for the seat back is in the seat back and the coat hooks and assist straps changed. 1967 from August 1966-July 1967 the engine is a 1500cc single port HO case. the car is 12 volt as the 1967 model year started 12 volts. the air cleaner on your motor is not correct it has a 1300cc air cleaner should be a dual snorkel dual preheat air cleaner the rear engine tin should also have the 2 small holes for the preheat tubes. the rear bumper is not original the inner overrider bars should be swooped down a bit to clear the square decklid and also should be the reverse lights that go in that area of the overrider. as there is a switch on the transaxle for the reverse lights. 1967 it has the one year only front fenders, the one year only rear decklid and rear apron. the front hood moulding is one year only for 67 its thinner. the rear suspension should have a Zbar which is on 1967-1968 beetles. the dash 1967 the dash knobs are rubberized which is one year only as its the last year for that type of speedometer and fuel guage. beginning in August 167 for the 1968 model the fuel guage is electric and moved in the speedometer cluster. as 1968 had siginificant changes from the 67 were the bumpers are higher, rear decklid and hood are shorter, the fuel filler moved from the tank to a hinged flap on the right, a newer plastic inside mirror, rearview mirror on the driver's door, new vent wing window locks with black knobs, a dash pad with rubber knobs, collapsable steering column with the ignition switch relocated into it, and the front seatbacks got taller for the head restraints on 1968 as early 1968 used the 1967 5 lug wheels and window regulators as late 68 had the 4 lug wheels and later window regulators but still retained the 1500cc engine the swingaxle on the 4 speed models but IRS on the autostick model. but also retained the early style heater channels and the Z bar on the 4 speed model. the 1967 beetle your mom's car is a transition model till the big changes occured for the 1968 model. When the beetle was in the US market VW made changes to the beetle every year. i would look on thesamba.com or Wolfsburg west on the changes it should list the chassis# and the engine # if they corrospond for the year. as some of these pre 1967 beetles and 1968-1970 had the engines replaced with a later 1600cc dual port engine. the beetles prior to July 1966 in the US are all 6 volt 1967 on are 12 volt. but to put a later 1600 in a early bug is you have to grind the bellhousing for the larger flywheel ring gear and change the starter and bushing. in your car was to be a generator originally but its converted to an alternator. Im sure you can sort the car out and get the rear overrider bars that are a 1967 only item, the original air cleaner, the seat lock release levers are broke so you have to fabricate them from steel tubing and order the dash knobs for beetle to 67 and a 5mm bolt. im sure there is more parts invilved than what u have already.

All VW's are IRS. Either swing axle or double jointed axles as per my VW owners manual. You can't ID a car by parts, seats ect. Way too many J.C.Whitney ized cars out there. I think the 1500 is the best motor they ever built. 1600s tended to burn exhaust valves due to leaner carbs and higher hp. Back in the day, the '67 made people feel as though they had a real car because they could get a jump start from anyone. I prefer '64 and back due to the smaller windows and no smog or safety devices. Just belts. Lol
