Thank-U THANK-U Thank-U FINALLY Someone has Explained what the Acid Prep Bath is & WHAT it is for??? I’ve spent hours perusing the net trying to find this information! Gold Plating Services sells it as a Plating “ACTIVATOR” & sells it for $40 a quart. I researched the ingredients & listed Sulphuric acid. So I purchased some M/C Battery acid filler & used that.($12) 📍Do you by chance know what the dilution ratio % if of your Acid dip?? 💯EXCELLENT VIDEO Sir!!! I’m only Nickel plating some Brass on much smaller [1.25 scale Auto Replica Machined parts] that I use for models. But process is the same. Excellent Video & Much Appreciated!! Lee PS: Almost forgot, you also helped me with using Cotton Gauze for covering the Nickel Anode!!! Another item I had endlessly researched until seeing it on your AWESOME VIDEO!!!!

I think for the pitting you might try copper first ! Apparently that’s the way to go to cover defects heavy copper plating then polish then nickel
@MikesRestorations
@MikesRestorations Год назад
Yes for sure a copper flash coat is the best way to fill in the pitting. I will look into copper plating at some point in the future Cheers!

There is a creator that restores golf clubs and use electro plating to strip the nickel off the surfaces so as to prep the surfaces perfectly smooth then replates the club heads to a near perfect finish without all the buffing .

Hey man....nickel plating is the scourge of the the jewellery industry...one of my least favourite tasks is to remove or repolish it. It is so hard! Quite a job to tackle....well done.

Mike, excellent work as always. So good to see someone who understands the law of diminishing returns and puts it into practice with prudent restraint. I am looking to do some plating for some pinball machine parts, but I hesitate because I don't know what to do as far as disposal is concerned. What do you do for disposal of spent solutions?
@MikesRestorations
@MikesRestorations 4 года назад
Hello Richard The nickel plating solutions will store for many years..same also for the zinc plating chemicals I store everything in sealed buckets and so far have had no need to dump any chemicals. Most everything is water based and would eventually evaporate..when evaporation does occur I just add a little more distilled water and is good as new. A worthwhile investment if you are contemplating doing things on a continuing bases

I am interested in re plating ice machine evaporator grids. Over the years the nickel plating has worn off and at the point the industry standard is to just replace the grid. The costs of the replacement grid is usually more than the machine is worth. This financially becomes the end of the machines life. Any suggestions on what voltage and amperage as to how long to soak the grid in the solution? It's about 24" x 18" Looks like the a bunch of squares like ice cubes would fit in? Any pointers would be great... Thanks :)
@MikesRestorations
@MikesRestorations 2 года назад
Hello QSSCEO To be honest Im just a hobbies with some small parts experience..Im not sure where to begin on something larger and guessing the amps. Amperage is fairly low though for electroplating nickel. A commercial plater might be the best bet!

I am speechless whenever I see your videos Mike. What do you do with the bucket contents after use ?
@MikesRestorations

Hello Graham Thank you Buckets stay sealed with lids after use. Contents can be used for years if kept clean and contamination free

Which Caswell kit did you purchase?
@MikesRestorations
@MikesRestorations Год назад
Hello Ben. I originally started pelting with the 1 1/2 gallon kit. I have since upgraded to the 3 gallon and added various components to it. If you would be restoring a car with this kit I would recommend the 3 gallon..eventually you will need it. Good luck!
