In this video, I'll be showing you how to limit access to OneDrive for Business to specific user groups or security groups. This is a common requirement for many organizations that want to restrict access to OneDrive and ensure that all business-related documents and content are created in SharePoint or a SharePoint site associated with the business unit or department.
Microsoft has just announced a new license or add-on called Microsoft Syntax Advanced Management, which is in preview at the moment. It provides additional capabilities to manage SharePoint and OneDrive and enhance Microsoft 365 security compliance and collaboration. One of the features of this add-on is the ability to restrict access to OneDrive to specific user groups or security groups.
To access this feature, you'll need to have Office 365 or Microsoft 365 E5 or A5 licenses. In the video, I'll show you how to set it up and what the experience is like.
First, I'll log in to the SharePoint admin center under the policy section under access control. Then, I'll show you how to restrict OneDrive access only to the users specified in the security groups. You can add up to 10 security groups, and users not in these security groups will lose access to their OneDrive content.
I'll demonstrate how to add a security group and save the settings. It may take a few minutes to reflect the changes, but I'll show you how to check if the settings have been applied correctly.
Finally, I'll show you the experience of an end-user who loses access or doesn't have access to their OneDrive when the settings are restricted from the admin side.

Good info....but does this cripple related features of the platform? For instance: With OneDrive disabled, can a user still use Loop components in email? Can they still send a video in a Teams chat? Even the official Microsoft documentation doesn't seem to provide this info. Thanks for your content!
