We take a look into some popular leather glues, talk about when to use them, and see some research I did with how well they bond and hold leather. At the end I recommend some that can be helpful to have around the shop. #leathercraft #leather #hobby #relaxing #leatherglue

So thankful to have this!! I’m trying to appliqué faux leather (vinyl fabric) to more faux leather for an ottoman project. Just needed something to tack down the appliqués until I could sew around the edges. So happy I can use my big jug of white school glue and not shell out for contact cement 😂

Thanks for the video! I have a strap that is two layers of suede sewn together but not glued. I'd like to glue the edges. I was thinking Barge would be the strongest but I won't be able to let the surfaces dry before the touch. Is Aileen's the better choice then? Or does Barge work if I can apply to both sides but not let dry?

Hello, likely, Aileen's will likely be better to test here, as a cool but unique thing about the contact cement is that both sides usually need some drying time before coming into contact. Wishing you well with the project!

Some leather goods need to be glued and still remain flexible not stiff. Aileenes is flexible.

I got a small stain on the front of one my leather purses and was thinking of covering it with either an embroidered or cross stitched patch. Would you reccomend any of these glues for the smooth leather or would I have to kind of sand it down a little to give the glue something to hold onto?

Hello! If the area will be covered anyway, roughing it up with a rougher tool or sandpaper could help a lot with adhesive strength. It would be similar to chewing gum getting stuck in a carpet, vs being on a smooth counter top - the carpet would be much tougher to remove it from, since it gives the gum something to hold onto. It would be similar roughing the leather to give the glue something to hold on to. Strongest would likely be contact cement (applied to each surface, allowed to dry, then stick together), though other glues might work too. For example, a gorilla or crazy glue, possibly even on the flat surface might work just by itself (though rough would generally be more beneficial). Testing things out on scrap material is uaually a great place to start, then knowing what works, moving to the real project. Wishing you well with it! 😃

Super interesting how the Barge ( on two sides is so different from one side) . I do understand how different adhesives perform different tasks too.
@internationalleatherclub
@internationalleatherclub 9 месяцев назад
@@gergemallIt's incredible how much stronger the adhesion is, and interesting, too, that it usually must dry some first on each side before joining them. Then it's like super glue 😃
