Aw thanks so much Kay. I think I'm just being a bit fussy re the fit, as others have suggested, a slip under it should help the 'sticking'. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Are you kidding me? The dress looks great on you. Wear it out shopping. Everyone will be envious. Don’t waste your work on something that looks fabulous. Get over it and wear it! Really!
M and S sell full slips which stop the fabric from clinging. I made the love notions Arlington dress and i found the slip very comfortable worn underneath it. PS the sweater dress looks lovely on you. Thank you for providing such lovely interesting videos. Best regards Julia
Oh I love the M and S slips don't worry! I have the 3 different lengths and I don't care my daughter thinks I'm an old lady wearing them 🤣. I don't think I put one on when I tried on this dress, silly me as I normally do. They are a life saver against clinging jersey aren't they and yes, I agree they are so comfortable even when the weather is hot! Thanks so much for your kind comment 🧵😊
I've made loads of Southbank sweater dresses mostly in sweatshirting fabrics. I wear them round the house as they are so warm and comfy but also have some for going out in more dressy fabrics. I wear most of them with black tights and black boots. I thought yours looked great!😊
That's great to know thank you and I can see how they could be great to wear around the house! Sounds like you are a massive fan of them. I do like it and probably get more wear out of it than I think. Thanks for your comment 🧵😊
I think the dress looks wonderful on you Carole! And it looks great with shoes and boots. A bit more casual with boots which could suit everyday wear! But I know if it’s out of your comfort zone/usual styling it can be tough. Wearing it for Valentine’s Day is a brilliant day! The bug fabric is such a pretty colour.looking forward to seeing what you do with it
Thanks Rachael, I think I just need to up my game in the wardrobe department. I've done what I end up doing every year is just fall into a pair of jeans every day, different colours though..I do try a bit 🤣. I'm keeping as a dress for now though and as you say, it's perfect with boots especially with all the rain! Have a great weekend 🧵😊
Hi Carol, the Southbank dress is FABULOUS! Just wear it. A little tip for you, I wear a full length slip with mine to stop the dress sticking to my tights. Another tip I graded out from just above the waist to just below the hip line (middle age spread area in my case). Enjoy wearing your dress. Happy sewing.🧵 I look forward to seeing your next make.
Same here, I wear a slip under all of my dresses, including Southbanks. I made two SB autumn 22 and couldn’t wait to get them out again autumn 23. Made another to add to them as I love wearing them, I think they suit lots of different occasions and it gets me away from the “trousers and top” option. Having said that I’ve made 3 of the jumper version and wear them a lot too. 😂 Hope you enjoy your lovely dress in the end Carole. ❤
Don't worry I have 3 slips I can wear!! I will admit I am certainly carrying more weight around my middle than I ever have done before, I just need to get use to it don't I. As you say, that's middle age for you 🤣. Thanks so much for your comment 🧵😊
As I've said to others, I am a massive fan of full slips so I should be ok, I just don't think I wore one in that video. Everyone loves this pattern so much and I can see why now. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
@@socarole66 maybe, but you are the only one who knows how you feel in it. So if you would like it better as a jumper, make one out of it. You would have enough left from the skirt to make a sleeveless top or maybe even a tee shirt.
I would wear the dress for Valentine's Day and then cut it to a top, if you wear tops more often than dresses, so it doesn't just hang in the closet, but I'm sure you'll come to a decision you are happy about. I know what you mean about "FOCO!" I have often heard people say, "Oh, it's just fabric," but if it's fabric I really like then I don't want to mess it up, and if I don't do anything with it, I can't mess it up 😁!!! Another factor is "analysis paralysis" of determining the "right" pattern for a certain fabric, while knowing you can't really be sure until it's done and you've put in all the work! It helps to get an attitude of "I tried and maybe I didn't love this, but I have made things I love so I know it can be done!"
I am very aware I suffer from analysis paralysis but never heard of it before. Suppose I make something up and it's horrible in the fabric?!?! But in reality that has never happened to me or if it has I change it, all is not lost!! I must write that down in big letters I think 🤣. The dress will stay as is for the time being and then most likely be shortened so I can get use out of that fabric. Thanks so much for your comment, it was very valuable 😊🧵
It’s beautiful Carol!! I have a suggestion……. With the dress on…find your waistline and pinch out the amount of fabric needed to get the waist line up where it needs to be. Turn the dress inside out and sew a seam to remove the excess fabric…..then remove the bottom band and cut a new, wider piece to bring the hem down where you like it to be. I think that would work to salvage your dress.😊
Thanks so much for your comment and an ingenious way to alter it. I did have to read your message a few times to work it out 🤣. Next time I will certainly raise the waist BEFORE I cut out! I do that with the Big 4 patterns so not sure why I didn't think of it on this one. Have a great week 🧵😊
The dress as it is looks adorable on you. Very retro 60's. However, I understand that if you are not comfortable in it you won't wear. It's always better to have something we well wear than a cute dress we won't wear. It will be fun to see what you make out of the blue fabric. I love watching the wheel. Thanks for sharing.
I hadn't thought about it being retro looking, but you are right! It will stay as a dress for now I think and I'll see how often I wear it. I'm so glad you enjoy the wheel series as much as I do. It's so much easier for someone else to decide for me what to sew 🤣. Have a great weekend 🧵😊
You aren't alone in the pattern being your favourite by the sounds of it! I can totally see why, it was such an easy make with a great result. Thanks so much for your kind comment 🧵😊
Oh Carole, your dress is beautiful. I don’t think you would need to keep it to wear on a special outing. You could wear it when shopping or having a coffee out with friends. I’m looking forward to seeing what you make with your blue fabric, it’s beautiful too. Maybe a hoodie if you like them or a sweater will a nice cowel neck, just something a little different. Happy sewing.🧵🪡
Thanks so much Letitia, I imagine I will wear it more than I think I will! The blue fabric is lovely isn't it and I'll be pleased to pluck up the courage to sew it up now. As you say, a sweater or hoodie will be best for it. Thanks for watching and your comment 🧵😊
Hi Carole. I agree with you re: the fit of the dress. Love the fabric color and print. From what you've said many times, you'd probably wear it more if it were shortened and made into a top. Agree with everything you mentioned, as well as the pattern Wheel of Fate combined with the fabric Wheel of Fate. Just too risky. Can't wait to see what you make with the next fabric wheel choice. Enjoy your Valentine's Day with your sweetie pie!!! 💌
Hi Dori, hope you are well. I'll keep the Dress as it is for now then when I'm bored of my current tops I chop it off 🤣. I'm looking forward to making up the blue fabric when I get back from my holiday, I have a couple of patterns in mind but neither is a dress! Hubby and I are only going to a local Italian restaurant that we can walk to, it's great as you can burn off the calories on the way home 😆. Have a great weekend and thanks for being kind as always 🧵😊
Miss Carole!! You look fabulous in the dress. You pointed out issues that I didn't notice before you pointed them out OR after you pointed them out. Looking forward to seeing what you decide to make with the beautiful blue fabric. I spin my housework wheel of fate every morning. Today it landed on cleaning the baseboards and ceiling fans. I think it's time to throw the wheel in the bin! Love your channel, darlin'.
Why thank you Miss Lorraine! I probably shouldn't have drawn attention to the waist area 🫣. I'm excited to use that blue fabric as I've had it quite a while. I love that the wheel of fate is living up to its name for you 😆Thanks so much for watching and making me smile as always 🧵😊
Omgoodness carol, it looks lovely. I wear mine with jeggings/jeans and boots or ankle boots. Great for dog walking! Try it, if you still don’t like it, chop it off and make it into a jumper. It will still look great on you!
Thanks so much! Your comment did make me smile a bit as you should see what I wear for dog walking 🤣. Honestly I look like a tramp (scruff) most of the time but then the dogs in our forest are continually muddy and owners have no control over them. I always end up with muddy paw prints on my legs or back 🤣🤣. I go well prepared now 🐾🐾🐾. Thanks so much for watching 😊🧵
The dress with ginko fine. Looks lovely. I am a big fan of jersey dresses right now which is weird as I've always shy''d away from them. Wheel brilliant idea. ❤
Thanks so much Anne for you lovely comment. Jersey dresses are comfy and yet stylish so I do love them. I just need to remember to wear them more often! Have a lovely weekend 🧵😊
Dress is fabulous especially for Valentine’s Day. If you really want a top you could make a top and a skirt from the bottom. You have extra fabric if needed.
I love the print of both of your fabrics, and the dress is really pretty, but I definitely know if I don't feel comfortable wearing something, it won't get any use, so you definitely need to do what makes you feel good wearing it. I'm looking forward to seeing that pretty blue made up! Have a great rest of the weekend!
Thanks so much Lara. I will definitely keep the dress as it is for the time being but if I find I don't wear it often it will swap to a top which I know I will wear. I made it up too late in the season I think 🤣. I can't wait to sew up the blue, which will not be a dress! Have a great weekend too 😊🧵x
Love the dress wear on valentine's day a do what makes you feel comfortable i understand what you mean about the fit mmm love the blue fabric can't wait to see the end result 😊😊😊😊
I'm looking forward to making up the blue as I've been admiring it for so long in my stash. I love this wheel forcing me to sew up those favourite pieces 🤣. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
The Southbank is one of my favorite patterns. I lengthen the body and shorten the sleeves. I wear the dress around the house, to the grocery store, to church. I usually wear it with booties. I have made it four times before I adjusted it here and there to get a great fit. You can make something for you and something for one of the grandchildren out of the blue.
It certainly seems to be a popular pattern and I can see why as it's so wearable, lots of people seem to have many like yourself. Thanks so much for your comment 🧵😊
Eeek tighter at the front is not what I had in mind 😅. I agree though, if it was a woven I would have put fish eye darts in the back but as it's a more casual dress I'll leave it as it is. Have a great weekend 🧵😊
The dress looks lovely. I have made two Southbank dresses, which didn't get much wear and both have been shortened into sweaters and now get worn a lot. It's all about personal preference and what you feel comfortable in.
Thank you, that is so kind of you. Interesting that you shortened yours as well. It may well end up short after a couple of months as I have a feeling the 'seat' will get worn and baggy. Have a great rest of the week 🧵😊
You look fantastic in the dress. I think if you leave it as a dress you will find your wearing it a lot next fall and winter. I use slippery leggings to keep the sticking from happening. I look forward to seeing your next make. Thanks for sharing your makes
Thanks Glenda. I think you are right about leaving it as a dress, I do have a lot of tops like that and I will wear it a lot next Autumn I'm sure. I'm excited to finally get around to using that blue fabric too 🤣. Have a great weekend 🧵😊
Oh hi Anita! Thanks so much for watching. I'm still panicking about that blue fabric in case I make the wrong choice 😂. We were away last week in the Canary Islands and I literally didn't have anything sewing related to share at all so decided not to do a FS Thanks so much for checking on me 🥰. I have a collab video coming out tomorrow so hope you enjoy that. Have a wonderful week and thanks again x
Hi there. The fabric and dress looks lovely. However, I, too, do not like when dresses cling to tights or pantyhose- it makes me crazy, and I won’t wear them that way. I would try a slippery slip of some sort when you wear as dress. If that doesn’t satisfy, make the top and make a beanie with the remainder😊 The blue fabric puts me in mind of bunny ears (I love bunnies). I see it as a top with a shawl collar… Happy sewing! Looking forward to the next installment 😀
Hi Rhonda, I also wear a slip under dresses and have a few in different lengths! I'm not sure if I used when when I took that film though, maybe I didn't. Love your idea of the beanie from the leftover fabric, someone else said a scarf. You are all so clever! The blue will definitely be a top that's for sure. Thanks so much for your comment and watching 😊🧵
I think you should keep it because it looks lovely on you but you know you best so do what you think will make you wear it the most 😊 if you do cut it up then perhaps make an infinity scarf with the scraps x
Thanks so much for your kind comments. Don't worry I would never throw the scraps away and yes, it would make a lovely scarf or wrap! Hope your week is going well 🧵😊
I see that you are having fun. It’s just fun for me to watch and then watch again with the results. I need to think of a way to make sewing more adventurous and fun!
Do what you want Carole! You know what you like and what you'll wear. I hope you feel beautiful and comfy for Valentine's Day and then make it into something you'll wear every week. ❤
My opinion is to give it a chance. Save it until next Christmas time and see how you feel about it. I think it looks like a perfectly acceptable dress. Could you measure down the dress to where the pattern shows the waistline, figure out how much you want to raise the waistline, then cut it, shorten it, and just have a waist seam in the dress? Looking forward to your next make.X
Thanks Diane for the suggestion of raising the waist. Someone else has said the same thing and it's something I hadn't thought of. I'm cross with myself for not raising the waist in the first place as I always do that with the Big 4 patterns. It will be ok as is I think, I'm just being fussy 🤣. As you say, I'll give it a chance and I bet I wear it more than I think! Thanks for taking the time to comment. 🧵😊
Love the dress! Its perfect for Valentines Day❤❤. You sparked an idea in me: i meed to come up with some kind of random choosing method for all the fabrics that I’m afraid to cut. Something like your wheel, but maybe something a little more simple like throwing all the choices in a hat and picking one out I have several fabrics that I have never been willing to cut because they are too precious, I really like that idea I think I’m going to run with it🎉🎉. I need. Teadon to get 0:15 back to the sewing room!! My closet it so jammed, Im reluctant to sew more because I have no more room to store it.😢. I have been doing alot of paper crafting amd beading in the last couple weeks. Miss you Carole!!!❤❤❤
Hi lovely lady ❤️. Some viewers are choosing their fabrics by the roll of a dice which is a great idea. Maybe that could work for you?! However if you don't need anymore clothes don't force yourself to sew anything more, those fabrics will wait for you when you are ready ❤️. The dress will stay as is for a while then I will chop it into a top, I don't have the need for dresses most of the time. You wait, Valentine's Day we will end up with a heatwave and it will be too hot to wear it 😂. Thanks for stopping by and hopefully seen you sooooon ❤️❤️❤️😘
That Southbank looks wonderful. I've made the top version 10 (ten!) times over a number of years and keep going back to it. The only thing I have done different to the pattern is reduced the depth of the neckband to 1 5/8" when folded which I prefer. I also have y our next fabric in my stash so I am interested in what you make with it as I have yet to decide what to use mine for (FOCO as well).
Ten times!!! You are the winner so far then as someone else has said they made 7. I thought I would need to reduce the neckband but I haven't. Maybe I did the wrong seam allowance, I'm so used to 1.5cm and not 1cm 🤣. Funny to hear you have the same blue fabric and you haven't made it up either, the pressure is on for me then 🫣. Thanks so much for your comment 🧵😊
I think it looks great, Carole, but can't feel it grabbing your tights at your hips! That would mean I'd have to wear a slip with it, which would then show every time I lifted my arms. I'll enjoy seeing the blue "bug" fabric made up! - Kelly
Hi Kelly. I normally do wear a slip under jersey dresses but can't remember if I did for that video or not. I certainly will be though as I hate the way jersey can cling!! I do have 3 slips in various lengths just in case they show 🤣. Thanks for your comment and watching 🧵😊
I think the dress looks great on you, but it sounds like you are not very comfortable with it. Sounds like a good idea to wear it for Valentine's Day and then make it into a top. Love your second spin from the fabric wheel and look forward to seeing it made up. Cheers!🥰
Thanks so much, I think I'm happy with it for now but as you say, may shorten it after the Winter. I am looking forward to sewing up the next fabric, I just need to bite the bullet and cut it! Have a great week and thanks again 🧵😊
🤣 « I’m a witch! » You are so funny! I love the dress on you and the colour is so nice. Definitely wear it for Valentine’s Day and then cut it to a sweater if you’ll wear that more. Can’t wait to see that beautiful blue fabric all made up. Xx 💞
Honestly I swear I do have witchlike tendencies, Chris often worries about me 🧙🏼. I'm excited for the blue fabric too, but no more dresses! Thanks for stopping by ❤️😘
Hi Carole. I love the dress on you! You look wonderful in everything you wear. But, I understand if you’re not comfortable. I really enjoy the fabric wheel of fate! Thank you for sharing! Have a great week! ❤ Diann
Hi Diann! Thanks so much, there is something in us that if we don't feel entirely at ease it shows doesn't it 🤣. Glad you are enjoying the wheel and the demands it asks of me! Can't wait to sew up the blue fabric as I've had it quite a while. 💙. Hope your week is going well too 🍓😊🍓
Thanks so much Lynn. I think those particularly tights are far too black actually, even a less opaque pair could be better. I only noticed that on camera. 🧵😊
I too have a fear of cutting things out. I'm slowly getting over it by just taking my least loved fabric and making something with it. It's making me realize nothing bad will happen. Lol
It's crazy isn't it! You are right though we just need to get over the fact that if something goes wrong, we are sewists... we can change it!! Thanks for watching 🧵😊
I have about 7 on the go, though I do lengthen it to just below the knees (and leave out the pockets), definitely wear a slip with it. Yours looks lovely.
7?!?! Wow you are a super fan then! I left out the pockets as people had warned me about them. I did wear a slip under it funnily enough but will keep it as it is for now anyway. Thanks for your comment 🧵😊
Love the dress Carole, I think it looks great on you, but I do understand that you will “see” (what with you being a witch 🧙) things which no one else does regarding the fit. I do the same with some of my garments. It’s a dress you can wear anytime, looks comfortable but smart too. Also loving to top you’re wearing in the vlog. Finally I did buy the flipping out case pattern and I’m holding you entirely responsible for this….such is you influence. 😂
Oh my goodness, you bought the Flipping out pattern!! Hope you have success with it as I did. I was told there are a lot of videos out there in case you get stuck but I'm sure you won't. Once I got my head around the endless instructions I was fine 🤣. I scare my husband a lot with my witchlike tendencies, he just says 'can't you put it to good use with the Lottery numbers?' 😂😂. Have a great weekend and sorry for making you spend your money! 🧵😊
Thanks Carol. I too am accused of witchery as I apparently have the ability to “sneak” up on people and make them jump. There is no sneaking involved though. 😂. I’m getting there with the flip out pattern. There are a lot of instructions and I’ve watched a YT tutorial as well (I’m more of a visual learner). Next I’m buying the caddy pattern (like the ones Adam makes), as I could do with one and am glad I’ve found the pattern, which is thanks to you doing the flip out and my wanting to make one. 😊. Happy claps all round.
@@annscott4031 now hats off to you if you are attempting the Caddy! It's all the binding that puts me off 😫. Plenty have made it though with great success and I'm sure yours will be fabulous. I wish you luck! 🙌🏼
Hi Carole! the dress turned out nice but if you don't think you'll wear it much as a dress then I would be inclined to turn it in to a top. Could you -- or would you -- separate the bottom off and make a skirt? Happy Sewing!
Hi Deb! I will see how I get on with the dress and when I get bored of the tops I have, I'll chop it off! I will definitely do something with the bottom half don't worry. I don't tend to wear skirts as I feel they make me look too dumpy 🤣. I do like the style of the dress though but I'll tweak the pattern next time. Thanks for popping by and hope all is well with you 😘❤️
Hi, New follower here 😊 I think the dress looks absolutely lovely on you! Not that I think it needs it but if you want less fabric in the back, maybe you can sew in little fisheye darts.
Hi there! Thank you so much for finding me and taking the the time to watch and comment! That is a great idea re the fish eye darts, not sure why I didn't think of that as I would do that if it was a woven?! Have a great week 🧵😊
That made a lovely dress, and it will be a lovely top. Fix it so that you will wear it. It makes no sense to spend time and money making a garment just to let it sit in your wardrobe. It looks great on you, but you’re right about the little details that you brought up. No one but you can really tell. I don’t normally go around examining people’s clothes, although, I do think that they examine mine for faults, so sick, right? Have a great week.😂
You are completely right Sue, I am a firm believer in only making things I will wear. For now it will stay as a dress as I'm short on jersey dresses at the moment and then I'll probably shorten it. Hopefully I can loose the last of my Winter excess pounds then I'll feel happier in it 🤣 I totally get the feeling that our clothes are being assessed, especially when people know we've sewn them!! 😊🧵
Thanks so much. I think I did actually wear one for the photo? Not sure as I normally do with anything jersey like that, they certainly do help don't they! 🧵😊
I know what you mean - I also have FOCO and so my lovely fabrics just stay in their box and I just keep buying other fabric which I know is silly. Your dress is lovely but you have to feel good wearing it.
We are funny about our special fabrics and maybe it stems back to when we had new outfits as a child and we kept them for 'best' 🤣. Something my kids generation certainly doesn't do! Thanks so much for your comment and watching 🧵😊
I do like it so it will stay as a dress for now at least until Spring and maybe I shall wear it more than I think! I am looking forward to using that blue... but not as a dress 🤣 Thanks for your comment 🧵😊
Where did you get that lovely striped fabric that you are wearing. K desperately want to make a striped turtleneck pullover, but I haven't been able to find any that I like. I love yours though.
I've just checked and I think I got it from Minerva. They still have some!! It really is a lovely quality French Terry, I think Adam has used it as well. Hope you have success 😊🧵x
@@socarole66 Thank you. I'll go right over and check. I've never used French terry except for som pink stuff with no stretch, that I made into a Southbank sweater dress. It was meant to be a wearable toil, and I was surprised to find that I love it. So I imagine I would love French terry with stretch even more.
Honestly woman what are you like 🤣 the dress is gorgeous and looks fabulous on you. However if you really feel unhappy with it then follow your instincts.
If it doesn’t feel comfortable to you, shortening to make something you will wear. Your dress looks cute but if you are like me you won’t wear it if you don’t feel comfortable.
