In this rare but important non-techical lesson we'll discuss resumes, cover letters, and interviews for electro-mechanical technicians. We'll learn how to effectively organize a resume for maximum effect and how to script a cover letter to drive a reader into your resume. Additionally, we'll examine common interview scenarios and how to prepare in advance for the most predictable among them. Lastly, we'll discussed the importance of sending a thank you letter after the interview. (Part 1 of 2)

This is really good. The hard part is many are only looking for experienced techs. It is hard in my area for new tech to land a job.

I became a controls engineer 4-5 years ago and have been watching ever since, really is solid gold. If only this stuff was somewhere when i was young and hungry.

One of the best job search preparation classes I've ever seen! Not a second of wasted time and really good advice.

As a seasoned mechanical engineer, my advice is this: If you get an interview, have some pictures ready of projects you've been involved with, or even better yet, have some parts, mechanisms or products you've designed or manufactured handy. This "show and tell" approach will set you apart from the rabble, and will give the interviewer something to ask you about to which you already know the answers. Also, when in doubt, meter out!

Ironic because in part 2 where we discuss interviews I recommend exactly that! Great minds think alike!

I like to think of my rare but strong bouts of unprofessionalism as “Shakespearean” appeals to the unwashed rabble as well as high class gentry. While crude by most standards, my memorable outbursts are intended to raise profound critiques on the nature of modern society and those that make it run. Am I making technical education accessible and entertaining … or … am I making a mockery of a dignified and necessarily dull profession? I leave that to future critics to decide. Thanks for checking this out!

@@bigbadtech Yeah, we both know you are. Having had front row seats for the first ship-out on the first Gulf War -- folks felt so bad about how the Vietnam troops had been treated, that they never wanted US troops to go through that again. That was where all the ribbons and bumper stickers came from. High School next to my unit shut down for the day, while the kids all came over to cheer on the first set of troops out. Fortunately with GEN Schwarzkopf, things got over quick and early, and most everyone cleared out and headed home. Troops for Iraq2 and Afcrapistan -- not so lucky.
