@@motormouth2472 Me too, I can tell ya my mother bought the tractor in 1990 and it has been in the family since. One owner. I've always been the one to do the maintenance on it. I'm stupid meticulous with my stuff, so after I mowed the grass I cleaned it well. I always drained the fuel for winter storage. I had an old Western Auto, (1992) it was 38 inch cut the 11 horsepower engine came undone, the oil slinger came apart and went between the cam gear and the crank gear. A friend gave me an 18horse 2 cylinder, it did a great job with the 38 inch mower I liked it, it ran good, started easy had more than enough Torque for my needs. I sold it to a mower shop, he was impressed with my putting that engine on the 38 inch. I think he just wanted the engine not the whole thing but he got some spare parts with the engine.

Good job in catching all that water in the tank too! You'd be surprised at how many people would have just tried starting it without even checking the inside of the tank - which sends WATER into the carb and the engine making everything even worse! Good thing you were able to find a carb and starter for this thing so quickly too!

It would be an alright driveway snowplow tractor but it is still too light duty for something like plow work
@calholli
@calholli Год назад
@@logansylvester8093 I've seen garden tractors this same size, with same engine and same rear tires that have a small 3 point hitch on the back and will run a small bottom plow. this is the same light duty "garden tractor", it just doesn't have the 3 point hitch on the back. But it does have the bigger wheels, stronger axle and lower granny gear of a garden tractor; which is pretty cool... This thing says it's only a 16hp, but that's very conservative. Today, a 660 twin cylinder like this would be 22hp to 24hp. For example, I have a Kohler Courage, and they started out as a 540cc which was 16hp (single piston), and then moved up to a slightly larger piston to a 600cc, and now they are 'rated" 20hp to 22hp.. and this thing is a 660cc twin.. You can't really judge small engines by their HP rating; it seems like the testing has changed over the years. You're better off just comparing displacement.

I replaced the second stock battery with a small automobile battery and the stock starter solenoid with a universal auto solenoid. Changed the oil every spring(good old 10W30) and lubed it every three seasons. We bought a blade for it and pushed snow with it as well(sometimes from those tough Iowa blizzards). Thanks again.

For those of us without ‘a cabinet full of starters’, for things like that you can pressure wash (or put it through the dishwasher) to get excess grime off and then submerge it in a bucket of evaporust to free it up. How I got that mower 🤔 when I was a kid my dad had a small lawn mowing buisness for family and friends and stuff he kept about a dozen lawns a week, his name was George and the business name was George of the Jungle lawn care, I still have some old cards, I always went with him to mow the lawns, he died out of nowhere when I was 12 my mom was poor so she sold his stuff since I was to young to drive and pull the trailer, I kept the old push mower and a Ryan brand weed wacker that had the worst carbs ever. I knocked on doors in the neighborhood mowing lawns and found that dynamrk behind a shed, I made a deal with the owner to mow his grass for free all year for that mower once a week cut. Then had a old neighbor help me get it running. Down the road I did the same deal for a New craftsman push mower for a older lady just had to mow her lawn for free and I could have the mower. Mowing was a side hustle I always had until I started another distribution buisness that pays me better lol . Now I just now my 5 acres and that’s enough.

On this one, the problem was obvious, it’s the starter, don’t even need to check the solenoid. Something a lot of people don’t realize, when it comes to Briggs & Stratton starters, it’s the top bracket that defines what engine they go on, but that top bracket is interchangeable with other motors and you do not need to tear apart the entire starter to change that bracket. Something a lot of people don’t know, when it comes to changing out the starter on these engines, you do not need to remove the flywheel, if you put the flywheel in just right spot and use a 9/16 wrench you can get the bolt bolts out.

I still have a few of those (I think). (2) 11/36 and a 10/36 (maybe 2) & a 8/32. 1 of the 11/36 was my great Grandpa's he bought new in 81. Took the motor off and put it on the other one in 94 because the steering bushings and transmission was warn out. He used it for transmission on an 80 acre farm for 10 years.

I like that. I could use that around the property to pull 'stuff' instead of my mower. I like the swage idea. When I was a service rep, I carried the 2 barrel aluminum swages and crimper on the truck.

Gidday from Australia Taryl. Love ur work, especially the stuff u build from junk. Got a tip fot ur Grassrats. If u have a weak altrrnator on ur lawn tractor, get some cheap leds to replace the tungsten bulbs. They will give great light and draw hardly any current. Keep the Mini Mad Max projects coming. Onya mate.

Use to have an old John Deere with the cork slide gas cap. If it’s old it’s gold compared to the junk today! Fantastic video.😎👍

Yup if it was cork, same on sno-mobiles, ya could let the gas evaporate of the cork an put lacquer on it so it didn’t get gas logged. 🤷‍♂️😏👍🏻🤨🧐🤓😎

Used a Dynamark back in the mid seventies to make some extra money mowing lawns. An average lawn brought me 3 bucks, which is about 20 bucks nowadays. Had to pay for the upkeep of the mower though!
