Found this Link: www.weather.gov/iln/nwr_faq "I will be traveling to Canada. Will my NOAA Weather Radio receiver work there? Yes, it should. Weatheradio Canada broadcasts weather and environmental information 24 hours a day in English and French to over 90% of Canada on the same seven frequencies as NOAA Weather Radio (162.400 to 162.550 MHz)."
Looks like a state of the art radio. It would be difficult to pack much more functionality in a radio. Maybe if they could put a camera on it somewhere it would have it all. 😊
It could use SSB decode since ham radio operators is most of what you'll hear in the US. SW broadcast is still going ok in Europe and Asia but not here.
Thanks for this informative review. Nice to see how it performs before you buy one. I agree with another comment here that this radio really needs to have SSB. It is IMHO a more desired feature than some of the wizardry they have going on here. Maybe in a future version they will decide to add it & make it the complete package
If a radio has SW but no SSB decode, I don't buy it. Wondering why it puts out "FQ" in Morse code when you turn it on? Maybe they just think it sounds cool.
I bought this without realizing the non-removable battery. This is on par with my shock that the RF750 didn't have a headphone jack despite the form factor. I'm a bit confused here. I'm wondering if I should just return this thing for the RF350. Has anyone run across any mods to convert this to a 18650 battery for long term use? I'm so impressed with the fast tuning that I hate the thought this unit is throw-away due to battery restraints.
The ones that use an 18650 are a bit too tight fitting. I'm glad they fitted this one with a lipo pack. The 113 though did not need to be modded, 18650s in that work, and fit well in the Raddy RF919.
For greater safety, Retekess replaced the 18650 battery with a lithium polymer battery. At the same time, the sale of 18650 batteries is strictly prohibited on the Amazon platform.🤣
Was really hoping to hear the radios airband performance. Try these O’Hare tower frequencies, if you please 120.75 121.15 126.9 128.15 132.7 or 133.0. The ATIS frequency is 135.4 you should be able to hear continuous recorded information here.
I have ordered the Retekess TR112 and will arrive today. Disappointed to hear it has no SSB. However, if I want to listen to number stations and radio amateurs I will listen on other my other receivers. So far I am impressed and it has not arrived yet! 😊
Well, I think I will pass on this one. No SSB, the look of a toy radio for Rambo's son, really not appealing to me. For this price, I'd really take a D-808 or PL-330 over this one. I've never caught anything on VHF.
The PL330 doesn't have USB-C charging, no remote app, and cannot record radio transmissions... The 808 is also a great radio for the money, but if has the same full body sound I don't know, I think this little radio makes listening to radio fun, and that's also important
The look of it kept me from buying one too. I also compared it with some He- man action figure toy from the 80's. But i guess its not only the outside what counts. Yet, if they make the design a bit more adult i think it will be a good product. Which it allready is i guess, cause it's very populair.
try to find a similar design and splice it in. Make sure to use heat shrink to protect the soldered connections. Of course the radio can be opened to see how it is wired to the PCB as well.
All the company has to do is install a standard spring for the negative terminal. the ones using an 18650 currently like the Raddy, have too tight of a fit. Making it a potential hazard when trying to remove the battery.
Hello really enjoyed the radio. Please keep in mind that all the other radios that are similar are just rebranded raddy radios as they brought the fr 320 first so they are all Raddy radios just redone. As you suggest thei😢😢.r is much to do with this unit. Thanks for a great review. RON Z. WA3090SWL.
I just purchased this radio based on yours and others reviews but it arrived DOA. I returned it and Im afraid Im not willing to risk another purchase on a no-name, made in china brand radio. I'll stick with Tecsun, Eton or one of the other reputable brands. I understand this can happen to any company but I dont trust these chinese made things that you see a bunch of on Amazon that look identical other than maybe color and a different weird name that I've never heard of. If you got one that works and you like it, that's great. Didn't happen for me. Its hard to fins a good shortwave radio that also does NOAA weather bands. Thanks for the great videos and keep up the great reviews. I'll check out some more to help me decide on what I will purchase.
Has anyone with this radio (or one of its clones) managed to connect it to an Apple Mac computer via USB-C? It doesn't do anything for me when I do, except sometimes charge it. I was expecting to be able to use it to read the SD card and add MP3s, save removing it each time.
I paid about the same for my Tecsun PL330 and got SSB ability, which this one does not have. But the Tecsun does not have weather or air band. So it's a bit of a toss up, depending on what you want.
@@todderbert yeah I love my CC Skywave SSB and I don't want to keep switching radios with all the extra features. If there's a DTV audio band, hoping there is one. I'll get it.
On smaller radio with flimsy antennae, I always try to raise and lower the antenna one element at a time and always from the bottom. I have seen people push down, breaking the antenna off from the top. This radio does look interesting, and seems to have a lot of features. And of course, you’ve actually got access to a battery pack that you could never have replaced because it is so peculiar.
I'm not buying it. I've purchased three Retekess radios from Amazon in the past and all three were returned immediately. Poor build quality. Poor reception. I'm not willing to give Retekess another chance.
todderbert-rmaybe you or someone can help me. I purchased one of these radios. I mainly listen to MW (AM). I cannot figure out how to change the AM tuning step to 10Khz for the US. It is set to 9Khz. The instruction manual is poorly written. I have 40 years experience with these types of radios but this one is frustrating. Thank you in advance for your help.
Cant help it but it still looks like some 1980's actionfigure kids toy for 8 years old to imagine they are some star wars hero. With the difference that it really works and you dont have to use your imagination. The HanRongDa one has that even more, they used the stupidest cheap colors they could find. I allmost bought one today, but the look of it kept me from doing it. I wonder if it also feels like that, or it feels decent. On the other hand it also reminds me of those little asian 80's handheld portable radio's, which is a good thing for an old guy like me. Hmm, maybe i will gonna order me one.
@@todderbert I allready thought so. But i just ordered his little brother, the HanRongDa® HRD-700, so i'm gonna check that one out first. Also at first i thought the model was much bigger, but @ second look it is way smaller then i thought it would be. That changes things a bit for me. I might end up owning one. lol.
For the SAME $$ you can have LW, MW, SW, FM, CB, AIR, HAM, NOAA weather radio, Family Radio, Business Band, ADSB tracking, *_Digital Trunking Police Scanner,_* AND Satellite reception with NOAA Satellite images!! Yeah, EVERYTHING from 1Khz to 1Ghz!! Just get a couple SDR dongles!! *_READ EDIT BELOW YT KEEPS DELETING THE COMMENT!!_* RU-vid KEEPS DELETING MY REPLY... You can use a SMARTPHONE and a dongle with a small telescopic antenna for 90% of this. Look for videos and you'll see several examples..
I assume you would need an array of different antenna types, an interface, power source, speaker audio, ect. SDR stuff is great, but is it truly as portable as the TR112. If you can fit all that tech into the same footprint as this, I'm in.
@@todderbert I see my reply got removed due to YTStupididy (again). ANYWAY you can use it on your CELL PHONE making it even smaller. Since they didn't like the link, just search "SDR Android" and you'll see.
@@God-mb8wi SDR Dongle(s). On an android phone with an RF Analyzer app for all band if you want portable. The dongles are capable of receiving all frequencies from 500Khz (LW) all the way up to 1.7Ghz (Satellite). SDR Angel will let you track all the aircraft (on a MAP) in your reception range, and there's even places that you can pull their Takeoff and Landing times. If you have an old laptop (or any free computer) use SDR Console for all band, which will *_also_* give you weather satellite tracking. With 2 or more dongles you can use a program called SDR Trunk that will give you a fully functional P25 Digital Scanner. (mine runs on an old laptop and it's on 24/7) The Dongles are under $40 each, and all the software is free. It takes a bit of learning with some of it, but once you've figured it out, it's an AWESOME indulgence into radio listening!! Go to the RTL-SDR website for more info. There's also a lot of video's available on all the software.
