Just spent about an hour trying to program the rb628 with it going check connection. Baffled thinking it was the dodgy cheap program cable, I thought is cable fully plugged in, click, nope. Works now. FFS!! 😄👍
Also probably my local scholl using same channel and tone on 114.8 hz same as a council top near by for me, though I'm listening with a bigger aerial, so the school and top don't interfere
Fascinated now by walkie-talkies. Very enjoyable programmes. Is it only the Retevis shown on Churp that can be programmed to PMR446. Or can any radio be changed to 446?.
I just bought a pair of Retevis RB629 and a cable. Curiosity lead me to switching the TX on ch1-16 to HIGH (had high and low options available in CHIRP) Did this to both radios and didn't alter anything else. Upon switching both radios on.....nothing... neither would Tx/Rx and the indicator remained off. Hmmmpfff... so proceeded to switch back to LOW tx ( option available ) but the setting WOULD NOT APPLY on screen! Stuck in high...oh no, I've messed up before ever getting to use them (is what I thought). Then, it struck me that I hadn't even saved the original *.img file (chirp) or *.dat file (Retevis oem software) Really thought I was stuffed and couldn't find an img or dat file online... oh book Messed about trying various things, loading in various presets etc and somehow managed to get the original file to load, from somewhere, so quickly saved that to pc and the connected radio, then connected the other radio and saved it to that also... All back to normal, and both radios working again. Phew! Moral: Don't bother switching TX to HIGH unless you know what else must be done in order to have both radios operational, and don't do it anyway if you're not licenced etc. Curiosity _nearly_ killed this cat. For a PMR446 radio, it's odd that the RB629 antenna are removable...they have a small Allen key grub screw that needs loosening at the base of the antenna...then the antenna unscrews! How strange... I wonder what a licensed user might do? Rewrite channels, set TX to HIGH and fit an appropriate antenna for the range set? I don't know, I'm putting these back in the box and buying a pair of 617's.
@@CB-RADIO-UK I don't know, maybe, but strange that chirp let me switch to high, and let me write that to the radios. You're likely right that the radios themselves must be hard coded to only operate with the correct legal low setting. I've looked today to see where my nearest club is that does foundation training, and it's 40 miles away! 😕 and they only meet twice per month in the evening 😕 SOMETIMES ( not often though ) I wish I didn't live in such a remote quiet and beautiful place.
I got so much bad luck trying to program .i have a tri band tried no go couldn get the laptops to get the com port. Tried doing it with the mike keyad bit finding out that there is missing instructions in the book passed it to a guy who programed it my cable was defective he had one that worked wokks well on 2 meter 70 cent but the 220 mhz band was out of band ha e 2 bofengs uv5r which i programed with the keypad would be a lot easier on pc but wont work on comport on a dell and a thoshiba
Hi Fred, Retevis website does not have the software anymore, and I rebuilt my computer so have lost the software I had originally, can you tell me where I may also find it. I have done an internet search to no avail, thanks.
Hi. Its here bud. www.retevis.com/rb628b-pmr446-walkie-talkie-mini-two-way-radio Its in the support section. Failing that you should be able to program the radios in chirp.
@@JonoB1987 RB629 show up in CHIRP, and I can confirm that adjustments can be made....TX power could be increased so I'll extrapolate that frequency range could be altered to match...but I don't know, I didn't try changing frequency other than I could set all 1-16 at 470hz in CHIRP.
i cannot for the life of me get the Com port changed. It has selected COM 7 which is grayed out. When i select COM8 where my transmitter lives both dots are selected. If i hit save and go back to check which one it took it will always chose COM7. Can't really find anything online. can anyone help?
Is there a Chirp programming software model setting that mimics Retivis RB628B? I hate crippled manufacturers programming software like this one from Retivis.
@@CB-RADIO-UK Yes but chirp doesnt always offer an alternative setting for some new handys, good example is Radioddity GA510 setting programs the new baofeng UV10 and UV11
