I bought a pair of these just before Xmas. I did have to contact them to figure out how to turn on Channel Descriptions. They are working well. The batteries are interchangeable with the USB chargeable batteries for the Radioddity GM-30 GMRS HT; though you do have to remove a small ridge of plastic - I used nail clippers for that obvious alteration. You can us cheaper cables in Linux because Linux does not demand the specific chip WIndows is fussy about - the problem is not the chip, it is Windows.

I have two of these and have been quite happy with them. The 1400mAh battery was a bit smallish for my tastes, but they now offer a 3200mAh upgrade. I consider it a step up from a UV-5R for not a whole lot more money.

Dave, any gadget with lithium batteries MUST be shipped with only ~50% charged batteries. That's also the best voltage to store them. If the batteries are not physically installed in a gadget, then they usually have to be shipped as HAZMAT as well. (Maybe these are considered as "installed" in the battery cartridge.) It gets complicated, and varies with the shipper too.

Mr. Kessler, I stumble upon a RU-vid channel called UVB-76 The Buzzer that has been live since November of last year. Not sure what to make of it, so I thought it best to bring it to your attention. 4.625 MHz is the supposed frequency. I am very new to the Ham radio concept and I love your channel. Hopefully you could shed some light on this issue? Thank you Sir.

What is the phase locked step programming for the radio? Some are set to 6.25, 12.5 & 5k.

Dave how's the filtering on this radio?

So, Dave, the sample Retevis sent you was their 5W version? Might be interesting to see a test on the 10W flavor to verify the veracity of the Retevis specs. Agreed: couldn't imagine a user holding a 10W HT so the antenna is in close proximity to their noggin. At least the radio has spectral purity going for it. BTW: the way you see fire fighters (and many others who pick up an HT to communicate with) hold it horizontally or inverted is because the user thinks it looks cool. BTW, a quick check of the max power out of HTs intended for fire service yields: Harris VHF LMR 6W Moto APX 2000 P25 VHF 5W Bendix-King 5000 VHF 5W Kenwood NX-210V VHF 5W I'm going to SWAG that the commercial manufacturers design for a max power out of 5W (nominal) for battery power management (operating time on a single charge) ad because doubling power out from 5 to 10W does very little to improve how well a repeater might "hear" the HT and likely little difference if operated in "talk-around" for short-range comms.

Hi Dave, Thank you for the deep dive into this radio. I bought this radio from Retevis(via Amazon), but I can't find the correct cable to program it on their website. Could you link the vendor where you got yours? Or will any two-pin cable work? Thanks

Any FTDI K-type connector cable that'll work on an analog Baofeng will work on this.

Sounds like Retivis had the radios locked down for the US market, but forgot to ask about the generic manuals.(g) Remember, it can't be advertised, marketed, or sold expressly TO the ham market without an FCC blessing.
@moenibus
@moenibus Год назад
Completely false and misleading comment. FCC has no authority over sales or distribution of anything. even not FCC approved devices.
@lyfandeth
@lyfandeth Год назад
@@moenibus I suggest you ask the FCC about that. For almost every radio service, including car key fobs, you'll see an FCC ID number printed on a label. If a device isn't submitted for approval, it cannot be advertised for a specific service. It gets way more complex than that. Read the Federal Communications Act of 1934, that's how the FCC was born. And given exclusive powers.
