Lots of reviews saying you need license. Also someone said it isn't considered FRS, MURS, or GMRS. Something about it's considered part 97. Any info?

A license, It depends on what you’re going to use it for either for MURS That would be a VHF radio. Or you could use it for UHF ham what you need a amateur radio ticket for. If you were going to use it for GMRS you could do it for that but you are limited to the band that you are licensed to with your GMRS call. The radio itself is part 90 compliant the reason why it is not a specific FRS or family radio service radio is because it is higher output than is allowed on FRS however, you can through software lower the power output rating to comply with FRS guidelines. The other part of the radio that is not a FRS compliant radio is that the antenna is detachable. What makes it a non-GMRS radio is the fact that you can go out of the GMRS band. Know if you were licensed for GMRS Mobile Radio stay within your specifications granted to you by your license meaning power output and frequency band there’s nothing wrong with the radio at all you can use it for that with no problems.

@@n3qdzSince it's Part 90, you can technically use it on GMRS. Set to 5watts for 1-7, and full for 15-22, including repeaters.

@@johnroberts6695 yea you can, in programming you can select it. The only thing that would be nice to have the side program button to turn off/on the Rodger beep

I’m thinking about getting one they’re cheap little UHF radios compared to Motorola and Kenwood that if you break it will be expensive to replace or fix. But what I’m gonna do is I’m gonna see if I can program the Motorola startup tone in the radio before I program the EC and primary ch especially for the volunteer fire department out here you can come across some rough stuff that you accidentally drop your radio into I had one guy drop his radio into a lot of ash and had to really clean it up it was a mess
@n3qdz
@n3qdz 2 года назад
If you’re asking whether or not you can use the MDC tones that Motorola uses it cannot you can use the onboard Roger beep. If you’re going to use this as a department radio I would absolutely beyond a shadow of a doubt make sure you have permission from your department wherever that may be in order to use that radio. You also have to remember that the Motorola especially our heat saturated ready on some models these radios or not. I will tread very lightly if you’re going to try to add these to your departmental systems you could get in a ton of issues with that. The other thing is if your programming these it only works on their software not Motorola or Kenwoods

Do you need a fcc license to use them

Yes, a GMRS license. Super easy to get. Just pay Uncle Sugar it fee and away you go

@coolelectronics1759
@coolelectronics1759 Год назад
@@zacharyjones5199 no but for gmr high yeah u just need a lincence I mean you can get away with programming channels1-7 and 15-22 and use it as an frs with those channels set at 2w but I don't think it goes that low in power. Just stay away from channels8-14 to avoid stepping on the guys on legit frs radios there as you will be stomping all over them regardless on you power setting those are only supose to be half a watt.

Retevis RT29 radios are not certified here in the Untied States for Part 95 GMRS operations. These are only for ham radio operations. You as a ham radio operator should know the rules and regulations. Maybe you need to re-read the rules once again for Part 97. But Retevis RT29's are only certified for Part 15 and ham radio. Not FRS, not GMRS, nothing else but ham radio.

@@n3qdz That would explain it. BTW, what are you going to do with all those radios? Whatever it is, I think you chose wisely. So how do you turn the scrambling on/off? Do you use that feature? Hope your shoulder healed okay.
@n3qdz
@n3qdz 2 года назад
@@johnroberts6695 each member of the family has a radio so everyone has comms. I used the scrambler for a couple things but the issue is when you scramble one you scramble all channels. I would like to have specific channels to scramble as apposed to a global scramble. Its ok but its not a huge feature. Its ok but when i want comms the scramble feature is useless. Its a great radio
