Fantastic review. I’m a patient transport ambulance driver and I bought 2 rt46 radios out of my own pocket I found them so much quicker than calling my crew mate on a mobile phone but I’m worried about using them in the rain ☔️ the 647 looks to be the one for me but is too pricey for my budget. Thanks for the good information. Stay safe.

Absolutely LOVE these Retevis radios... I have the RT81, programmed perfect ( can't use MAC, only Windows UNFORTUNATELY as i found out the hard way ). Hopefully they can update they're software at some point in the future.

I own another pair of retevis rt45 radios . They offer amazing value for money, however I may have to look into the RT647 radios as i like the fact that they offer ip67 rating. This is very useful when I am off on camping adventures or out in the snow. I also love the fact that they are very intuitive to program which is a must on these type of radios, I only wish that they had a little screen telling you what channel number your on but then these are already of great value so I cannot ask for anymore.

I use Walkie Talkies for hot air ballooning and they offer a lot of advantages over mobile phones in this type of application. “Always on” means ease of communication and ease of operation. I wasn’t previously aware of the Retevis brand, but having seen this review, they are clearly worthy of further consideration and are very well priced - Thanks for the excellent and detailed review - Peter.

My wife and I both work at Walmart, and we use the RT27V MURS radios at work. Walmart uses channel 4 and some stores use channel 5 in the MURS system. The MURS is in the VHF band instead of the UHF band like the RT27 is but operation of both radio's is the same. Overall, they are very good for use indoors, they have a good ability to reach pretty much any place inside a big building like a Walmart Supercenter. I work in the Auto Care Center so I don't use my radio a huge amount, but my wife has her's on all the time at work. If I worked in a different department, I'd probably wear mine all the time too. The store provides Motorola radios for employees to use, but those are very expensive to replace if one get's damaged. So we've decided to use our own radios which are inexpensive but high quality units. So far, they've kept right up with the Motorola units and we are in full communication with the rest of the store.

Love retevis radios. I have 5 rt27 radios never heard or seen the rt647. Would love to be able to use that one. The rt27 fits small in the hand and works amazingly long range and very clear. great radios great company for it.

Just watched another review on the RT27 and they enabled a voice scramble feature , but you need the communication / mod cable to do that and other advanced functions (encryption etc). 647 models advantage is most likely the weatherproof-ness and not sure about the range, the range isn't so great on the RT27, but sufficient for most uses (not long range).

Are you going to do a range test on these? Also a new radio I've mentioned before is the Retevis rt667 this is really small with loads of features including alarm and l.e.d torch 3500mah battery good inbuilt mic, speaker really loud and antannae has same grub screw in which when removed antannae can be screwed off revealing mini sma male fitting I've got a quarter wave on mine works well

Must admit the more expensive RT647 looks far more professional along with the IP67, it cannot be far from a hit of a purchase. Be great to test the range from 11 floors up above Salford. Standard neat box too. What about the charging times and rate of power use ? I'd certainly be proud to show off the RT647 ! Thanks for a great video btw...

Absolutely love retevis brand of pmr radios I have the rt24 radios and they are way better than the baofeng range. These rt24 have been the best radios I have used they have way better audio on transmit and the receive is very good. I use them around the farm and they handle being dropped getting dirty no problem and the battery lasts all day and I would recommend them. Great value for money.

As a patient transport ambulance driver I would pick the 647 for the ip67 rating. I have a couple of retevis rt46 that I bought myself but are not waterproof. We use mobile phones for getting our work but bought 2 way pmr radios for easy contact in the hospital but I won’t use them in the rain. Thanks for the review I might have to invest in these new radios.

Basically, yes but write to them at the email address above and put a bit of context around it 🙂. Don’t just literally send your address with no mention of where you won them. Any problems, let me know and I’ll get in touch with my BP at Retevis.

I have a pair of Therese rt647 and I was wondering if your radios have the same bug as mine. When using them without dcs or ctcss codes the squelch does not kick in directly after the transmission. So you always get rustle after a transmission which ist annoying, when using dcs or ctcss codes they Work perfectly.

Both radio's look great value for money, also well made with the metal chassis. I don't think you could go wrong with any of these radio's or any Retevis radio's for that matter.

Across the pond in the US we’d like to know the power output in wattage so that we can apply it to our application. We have MURS VHF frequencies which are allowed 2 watts, and we have GMRS UHF frequencies which are allowed 5 watts. This company is very poor at describing the allocations for their consumer radios. We use them for family activities, hunting, hiking, camping etc. we’d like to know what qualifications the radio has.

Do a review on RB17A. Retevis claims this to be their long range handheld radio and I would like to see some test before I purchase.
@tdcattech
@tdcattech 3 года назад
From what I can see, the RB17A is a PMR446 radio. I’m not sure what would extend the range of the radio other than the marginally better antenna. In my experience, it makes little difference but it might be worth a look.

Rt647 went into a seawater pond on Friday, recovered on Sunday. Took battery off and washed out with freshwater and left to dry for 2 days. Unable to dismantle much further to clean/rinse/dry (suggestions anyone?). Damage: lost one of the charging pads off the back of the battery - possibly by galvanic corrosion but not certain; problems with PTT and channel buttons; low volume and interference.

Thanks for the comparison! I heard a lot of good things about Retevis radios. I own a pair of Motorola T50 radios and always wondered if these Retevis radios have a bit more reach due to the longer antenna.

Don't be fooled by retevis radio stock antannaes most have just over an inch in length coils the rest of the tubing is just for show best radio up to now is the retevis rt24.this has a hidden grub screw on antannae when removed and antannae screwed off reveals mini sma I use a quarter wave on mine works a treat the new mini retevis rt667 also has a removable antannae this is a great solid built radio and gives a great range.

Rt647 looks a better radio I've got the rt27 radios and they are excellent for close call but extended range is a no no they just don't seem to have any sensitivity for picking up weak stations open the monitor the static just dosent sound right in built mic I can't fault .
