Mat, no 4 meter band in North Almerica, but it might be possible for the manufacturer to make a 6 meter version. That would find a market here. I run 6 FM with an almost 40 year old Genave crystal-controlled mobile. A new rig would be nice. In the base station, I do have a Yaesu FT-857D that handles the 6 meter band, not a radio I would like to leave in the car, hi! 73, Keith, WB2VUO here near Buffalo, NY.

If all of the 9000D series radios from AnyTone/TYT/Retevis are the same sans the low pass filter for banding, it actually shouldn’t be too hard to modify one for 6m work. Actually this is a great idea and one I’ll work on as well. Simon The Wizard has all the schematics online, since these are popular for use as repeaters and packet radio data, given the internal JST ZH 6-pin 1.5mm port and cutout for a DE-9 (aka DB9) 9-pin serial port on the back. 73!

I thought from the title of the video it was a quad bander.

Mat, Thank you for showing and reviewing this radio. I just wish it had 6m instead of 4m, since we do not have 4m available here in the States. If it had 6, I'd purchase one for my mobile. Perhaps, they'll eventually make one with 6. Anyways, thanks, again, and 73s, John, N8SGM.

Thanks for the nice comment John. Indeed, a 6M version would be awesome. As it’s not too far away from 4M maybe it’s something they can do if there is a demand. Cheers and have a great weekend!

This is just Retevis’ rebrand of the TYT 9000D, which itself is a clone of the white label work Anytone did for Alinco x35 monobanders. Which is why they all include an internal JST ZH 6-pin 1.5mm port and a DE-9 (aka DB9) serial port on the back.

I have the 1.25m version. Works well, but the band is dead in my area.
@seanwieland9763
@seanwieland9763 Год назад
Pick up a 2m VHF version as well. The TYT 9000D often sells for as little as $100 USD, and with the internal JST ZH 6-pin 1.5mm internal port, it’s easy and inexpensive to add a DE-9 (aka DB9) 9-pin serial port on the back for repeater function or 9600-baud data.

Just on the 259 socket. It is likely the manufacturer accounted for the infinite nature of the socket and it will work fine. Most people test 259's at the centre of a coaxial cable not at the radio end or antenna end. As long as the VSWR is good along the coax you don't need to worry about the resistance or impedance of the radio socket.
@TonyLing
@TonyLing Год назад
News to me.
@shanerorko8076
@shanerorko8076 Год назад
@@TonyLing Why do you think every radio uses the 259 socket and not the N-type.
@TonyLing
@TonyLing Год назад
@@shanerorko8076 Firstly, not all radios use the SO-239. Some UHF radios have the N type, and some mobile use BNC. Handhelds rarely use the SO-329. As to why far too many radios have the SO-239, I can only put it down to people being too dumb to fit a proper clamp connector.
@shanerorko8076
@shanerorko8076 Год назад
@@TonyLing Well I was talking about HF /VHF/UHF mobile and units not HTs. Yes VHF and UHF makes more sense to use N-type as power and voltage levels don't get to the level where you need a SO-259. When the radio has HF output though you really want a SO-259 but even if the radio is a 2m/70cm it's not a big deal using a SO-259 connector. As I said the impedance will be set on the radio by the manufacture.
@TonyLing
@TonyLing Год назад
@@shanerorko8076 I just like the simplicity of a universal connector in my shack. N series and BNC do everything I need, even for HF. Why fick around with an inferior connector?

Clone of the Anytone. I have the 1.25 meter model. Great radio. Wish we had 4 meter 70 mhz as well as 8 meter 40 mhz here in the states. There is a push by the ARRL but push back from commercial interests. Great review.

Are there any alternatives for fist mics. I'm looking at deploying a number of these and want a fist mic with no buttons. Mainly for avoiding unintentional operation.

In North American, 4-meters is used for R/C Aircraft, and pager/control links. I don't know that there's any voice communications there. I suspect signal propagation is very similar to that of 6-meters. Just the same, I wouldn't mind picking up one of those radios, just to see what I could hear.
@Randrew
@Randrew Год назад
I'll suggest getting a cheaper SDR receiver for "just to see what I could hear" work. I've been eyeing the 1.25m version of the RT-9000D for a while, but I'm afraid there may be no one else on that band in my area :(
@arbutuswatcher
@arbutuswatcher Год назад
@@Randrew Yeah, 220 MHz is pretty dead around me as well. I've got a Kenwood TM-331, as well as a couple of Motorola GP300's.... all of which are on 220MHz, & I don't hear very much traffic.

Nice radio. Given you said each of the four is "exactly the same" is there any known way to go from one band to the other even if by messing inside with diodes etc.?

I've tried to find is it possible to switch bands with single HW? So if I purchase RT9000D from amazon and it comes with 2m, can I program it to 4m via Retevis software and use it like that and then later reprogram it back to 2m. So also with single HW can It be programmed ez at home to 4m 2m 1.25m and 70cm?

Any time I see a Retevis, I usually see it as a remake of an Anytone that came first, but I don’t think this is the case with this one... Just wondering what’s your thoughts on Anytone vs Retevis, and which is the “original” in most cases?

Hi Mat, forgive my ignorance as I haven't used 4 metres yet but do the parrot repeaters playback every over you make, so does the other station have to wait until your playback has finished before they can come back to you ?

Yup, just like how Anytone/TYT cloned the 8900R as the 9800D. This Retevis is just a rebrand or the AnyTone/TYT 9000D, which itself was also a white label for Alinco’s x35 monoband transceivers. Hence why it has an internal JST ZH 6-pin internal port and a cutout on the back for a DE-9 (aka DB9) 9-pin serial port on the back for repeater and 9600-baud data.
