Comment date 1/9/2023. Thanks for the review.... bought my about six months ago for a sale price of $56 without a cable, the programming cables i had, none worked. So i ordered the retevis program cable for 5.99. finally got that and the radio is now programmed through Chirp. did some field tests with area repeaters and found this radio able to receive and transmit on the good side with no problems. radio did get warm after a while during transmitting. stations found my audio better when i spoke across the mic hole instead of directly into the mic at a gain of 5. it is a nice little unit once you figure out the strange setup compared to other radios i have. Yes, GMRS is programmed and listening to area repeaters is great and it will transmit. its a keeper for the price and a unit you can be thrown in your buddy's car on the way to the football game or a field day with a small backup portable battery. my teenage son is getting his tech license, he can use it instead of one of my more expensive units. its cheaper than most HT units i have and delivers more wattage. program and put in your go box or field bag. I have this installed in a Nissan Versa which is my run around town staying radioactive. highly recommend this unit at the bargain price for a single band mobile unit. The only thing i wish this radio was DUAL BAND.
Great radio and explained well Louis and it makes s great PMR radio on PMR I get over ,15+ miles as up here there is a big following on PMR and I like the 70cm to
Thanks dear OM. Very nice video. Bought it as 70cm version a couple of weeks ago and it indeed works like a charm. Only thing I didn't like is the not detachable Mic and thus decided to change that. :-) Bought a set of connectors (GX12 Aviation Connector Plug ) and built it in without big difficulties. Also plan to add in the Mic housing a 1750Hz Repeater tone and BT support for headset use in my mobile, as this will be required for leagal reason here very soon. Best 73, DG3FG
hiya louis looks a nice tiny radìo that works well .. my only gripe is that its a fixed mic... i think the first thing people will do after its warrenty runs out is doctor it and put in a 4 pin connector.. cheers another good vid m3zeg jess
Hi Lewis, This radio is almost identical to the Anytone SMART 10M the mic and radio are the same only the frquencies it works on are different. the 10M works on the 10meter band am fm at 8watts it also can be configured to work on 11meters as a 80ch CB with 4 watt out put lastly you can wide band this to work 26mhz to 30mhz at 8 watts. am fm.I have found like you my 10m to be an excellent micro radio. 73's Robert Maynard
Pitty this is UHF mobile looks a great radio and this would be great if VHF for me to bring over to the UK and use. I'm sure a VHF will appear if not already gonna have to check. Great radio for putting in a hire vehicle with a ciggy power plug. Good to see you back Lewis great video 👍
Appreciate the video Lewis (SP?). I just found out about this radio. Looks like it would be a good little UHF manpack candidate. I like the streamlined simplicity of it. While not a Part 95 radio in the U.S., I could otherwise see it would be a good little base or mobile GMRS radio for a licensed GMRS operator. I could see it on a family outing or even a larger neighborhood group (they on the license free radios) being the net control to keep everyone in touch. If I ever get my "shack" arranged properly it would be a good, tight little radio to have tucked under a shelf for monitoring GMRS with some friends with the license free HTs (I'm also licensed for GMRS as well as Amatuer) while keeping my other radios clear for ham work. Also handy for using our local UHF repeater though we spend most of our time on the VHF one. Did you do much more with it after the initial review? I'm just wondering how well it's held up. Thanks again for the review. When I get around to doing more code plugs for my little DMR radio maybe I'll catch you out there sometime. 73, K2WLF/WQZW588.
I know, 3 years ago I posted the above. Just wanted to share that I did get this radio in UHF. I used it beside my Yaesu FT-2900 (VHF only) for access to our UHF repeater and to run a simplex GMRS weekly net. Great little radio for the price and size. I'm thinking of getting another in UHF and one in VHF to build some ammo can/portable go kits. It does get quite hot when having a conversation though since the whole body is a heat sink.
Hmm thought I sent my comment, I guess I didn't. This radio makes my vv898 look like a tube radio! I am surprised how great it sounds. The lack of a DTMF mic is a little disappointing though. I like to enter channels on the fly.
Would a socket for the mic fit in there I would like you to pop the lid of some of the stuff like clone radios to see how close they are so we can see £s for £s what we are getting
Im having a issue programming mine. Downloaded rt98 software off retevis go to read radio and is says radio model incorrect and says my radio is a anytone at-779U. Any ideas
Hi sir bought one of this little radio uhf but when i manually set freq. I cannot scan my desired freq. I press the sca.on radio but no works still beeping only. Hope you help me this little problem thank you sir. Have a good day
Just bought this radio, and the UHF version only does 400-470 MHz. I'm wondering if anyone out there knows how to mod this radio to operate to 490 MHz (or at least listen). Tried both the older and newer version of software from Retevis and no luck.
I've got the CRT Space U which is the same, and it's a good little radio. Thanks to Paul for reminding me of the Mongrels series... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ltb_14CWqDA.html
