I got a tear detected, fortunately on time and before it progressed into detachment, I got laser surgery to seal it off. I’m now recovering and was super scared because I had never seen floaters before. Now I know laser was the best choice to avoid further problems, a simple solution. I hope this will be the end of any retinal problems in my life. Thank you for the video, it’s a very calmed explanation.
Thanks for making this video and bringing comfort to those who are seeking answers, unfortunately these things aren't taken seriously enough in countries like Australia where the level of support is virtually non existent unless you are a high profile sportsman or a politician.
Just had laser retinopexy in nyc and am scheduled for follow up visit just 4 days later... seems too soo given that it can take up to 2 weeks to see if procedure "took". Anywho, this is one of the most straightforward, helpful, REASSURING+STRESS REDUCING videos I have seen on the topic. Though I live in NYC, I have floaters much like the woman toward the end who opted for removal and am considering same. My doc, while in the process of doing the laser retinopexy said he SAW the floater about which I had been most complaining, but said nothing could be done... that it might or might not resolve on its own, or diminish, but likely that my brain would learn how to ignore it over time. I am VERY interested in learning more about risks/benefits of the floater removal that your institution seems to provide while most do NOT offer such options. Fantastic video! You must be a great dad as you explain things in such a straightforward manner and exude confidence and calming energy!!! Thanks for that!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I'm so happy that you didn't use the scare tactic so that people are afraid to be seen. You just tell us we should see someone as soon as we can. Hopefully all of us know how important our eyesight is and will get an appointment sooner rather than later. Thanks for having such a relaxing and calming voice and knowing there is something that can be done.
I'm 42yo male in UK. I've never worn spectacles until recently but mainly for VDU use and they are a mild prescription. Six months ago I was diagnosed with Drusen in my left eye and possibly earns signs in my right eye. Now more recently, I have noticed quite suddenly, black floaters in my right eye and a wiggly line in my left. It has got me a bit worried but I am seeing the optician tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
I had flashes, I went to optometrist straight away where told me to go to hospital emergency, I had emergency surgery on my eye the same day. Outcome is I lost my sharp vision in center of my eye, but did not lose the retina thank God.
that's shocking. I experienced my vision in that eye was progressively going black from one side like a curtain being drawn. I think mine was a progressive detachment unfolding over a day or two. swarms of tiny black dots too. I think if detachment makes it to the middle it is lost forever. I think if I had not had surgery right away I would have lost it. Maybe I was an extreme case - I don't know. I am pleased with my Canadian health care. I live in Vancouver nearby the biggest hospital in Canada west of Great Lakes. The emergency doctor diagnosed right away and I was exam same afternoon by resident to confirm diagnosis and set up surgery. I hate to think what happens to people who are far from hospital eye surgery clinics. I kept checking my peripheral vision which was diminishing. I think one may not notice it diminishing unless check it by moving a finger into field of vision from one side. It was 10 years ago, but I remember something about keeping my head and eyes looking down toward the floor and something about lying on one side or the other, to slow the progressing of the detachment. can't remember how that works something to do with what one perceives is the opposite (mirror) of what is received on the retina. From my experience, if my field of vision is darkening I wouldn't hesitate to get seen urgently by opthalmologist straight away.
@@kevinwelsh7490 I really wish I had your privilege, can you help me somehow,a pro bono doctor for my case.I do have a retina detachment, I'm in Zimbabwe,Africa.I have no funds to treat my eyes, anybody somebody help.I don't need money but a doctor or facility that can treat me pro bono.

What you said are really symptoms of Retinal Detachment but only after a thorough examination , because it could only be a sign of Neurological problems and onset to Migraine .( my experience ) ..
good day sir i have a congenital cataract in my right eye and it can only see a faded light im 29 years of age ..i would like to ask if there is still a hope in gaining my rightvision ..it caused me alot of damage in work and life i did not perform well in school and still causes me problems in terms in engaging with other people ,i cant find a better job, in my country there is no advanced treatment and facilities ..hoping for your reply.GOD be with us
I noticed a flashing light and bigger than usual floater but the light went away still I'll get it checked. but I'm also suffering a cold. Cold sores in my mouth..vague chills. Crappy feeling all over. I tend to get more weird stuff in my eye when I'm feeling crook.
I'm working on getting over a iritis flare up. I'm getting odd flashes in the prerifrial , he looked at my eye 3 days ago and didn't say anything when I asked about retinal detachment. Should I be worried? I'm taking a dilating drop , and prednisone drops. Also 20mg of prednisone pills. Should I go to the ER?
Why can’t we just replace that fluid as we get older? Put a tube on one side of the eyeball to take it out & a tube on the other side to inject some other fluid like saline solution?
Excellent video/info. I read the success rate of lasering a small retinal tear is about 90% if you catch it in time. However, i wonder if those people ever get normal vision back? When they say "success rate" does that mean those people get most or all of their normal vision back? Or is that blurriness they got from the tear permanent even after being treated with laser and tacked done?
I was told about 6 years ago by my eye doctor I have a retina tear. But to this day never had any issues, he said I should do the laser treatment. But never did it because I have no symptoms.
@@zcyeo8895 Yeah ill have to go get it doable checked and see if maybe the one eye doc was not correct as everything I read or listen to says you should be having symptoms.
Just had the retinal tear laser procedure done today on my left eye. I chose not to get the numbing injection just the drops. I was a nervous wreck going in based on reviews ive read. It was painless but very bright. I felt discomfort and pressure. Last all of 5 minutes. Right eye in two weeks.
Thanks for info. Good you posted because it will help settle fears about going in for help or worry about pain etc with procedure. Please keep us all posted how you are doing. Hope all goes well for you.
I just saw my optomologist because I had the streaks and large black floater but he didn’t see a tear but said I was at high risk so my question is there a time limit if when a detachment can happen?
I don't think you'll answer, but hopefully someone will with some knowledge towards my question. I don't know what's wrong with my eye, rather it's a retina tear or I'm losing my sight. For about a week straight now I've been getting this one black floater in my left eye, it comes around everyday, and I've never had it before. It's not a dot, and it's not big, it looks like a random shape. For a long time I've had a pain in the left bottom corner of my left eye And there's a little red circle there too. Sometimes my left eye gets blurry. Also, I've noticed that my left pupil is a little bigger than my right, I've tested it in the light and the dark, it stays a little bigger than the other. If this means anything, I did need glasses ever since I was in kindergarten. I was told that if I didn't wear them, I might go blind by the age of 20, I'm 19 now. I only wore glasses in 7th and a part of 8th grade. This probably doesn't add up to a retinal tear, but I'm sure it's something bad, there are just too many symptoms at once. Oh, and my left eye is much better than my right... Honestly, they're both bad though.
Okay, i’ve been having super similar symptoms recently, and looking everywhere for a solution. The only thing i’m finding is talk about retinal tears and detachment. Did you ever figure out what was wrong and if it was serious?
Dr. Ginsburg, I'm 33 and had a surge of eye floaters in both eyes over the last two weeks, with one in my right eye being so bad that I can't stop seeing it, even in dim rooms. I can live with the ones in my left eye as I'm able to look through them. I've heard that in people my age the floaters may be too close to the retina or too close to the lens to be laser treated. Does my case sound like something you could work with?
The lady in the end of video described what I see when I'm driving or in bright sunlight. A cloud in front of my eye. I don't see dark spots but a hazy-gel like body impeding my vision. My ophthalmologist is not too keen on laser surgery and this is what is bothering me as opposed to what Dr. Ginsburg is saying. I have a dilemma now. I have had this problem for several months now and not getting better or used to it.
Go to another doctor, your vision is worth a second or even a third opinion. I think the understanding is many things may cause this issue, therefore, surgery may not be what's required but definitely, a proper diagnosis is.
I Just had laser retinopexy in nyc to repair two tears. will know shortly if it "took," but doc said it would NOT remove the floaters I experience much like yours and the woman in the video. Mostly I am concerned that the tears were "welded" but am now stressing about post procedure concerns of plain old vision and whether this splotchy floater, large-ish, dark grey and often visible front and center, will impede normal vision. Am very interested in learning about floater removal assuming step 1/tear repiair is successful. Have you had any improvement or considered the more specific floater removal this video mentions? Good luck to you!
I have been having massive headaches massive uneasy feelings …. My brain feeling like it’s crushing .. sometimes I get a mini seizure stare or. Sometimes …. A stroke causes me to pass out. It’s been a problem for a few years now this floater is. Large omg I cam fricken nuts help help
My both eyes have been operated last month. My problem was little bit serious about retina detachment. My left eye's retina was detached and right eye had a tear and operated within 8 days.. They put oil like substance in my left eye by doing surgery. Right eye operated with laser surgery. My question is that how much time will it take to recover my retina and will it be strong enough after removing the oil...? My vision of both eyes is perfect now... I am from Pakistan
I have a question doctor. My younger sister had a procedure done approx. 2 weeks before. She had scleral buckling surgery. She has some complaint even after this surgery, she still, when she looks on side, she sees water floating. When we says surgeon on follow up visit, he said since the procedure is somewhat complicated, they have not removed the retinal fluid in the procedure. Moreover he said if the water doesn't dry then the possibility of second surgery remains. She already has had a surgery before in another eye due to the retinal detachment, same surgery in mid 2013. our concern is what would be advisable in this situation. She is 25 and is healthy otherwise.
I've been seeing flashing lights lately. I'm 44 years old and don't have medical insurance which worries me if I would need laser treatment on my right eye. What is the general cost for treating such case?
@@alex09aries same bro I had been in boxing too But now I took pledge 😂 not to come again Because road fight will also not hurt me so much Rather than a Martial arts class 🥲
I had a pvd last month , no damage to retina but the specialist wants to see me in a few weeks . I have a speck floating from right to left and it’s annoying. I’m hoping the retina stays ok. It’s very unsettling though
I only have lots of clear floaters, so much that things in my peripheral vision are hard to see. I don't have flashing lights but the colors of everything seem brighter or off if that makes sense. I always have a headache when this happens too. I'm 17 by the way.
Had bunch I guess in my 50s sometime. One eye, went on maybe 6 months. No flashes. Had clear and black but they did all go away by themselves, I am pushing 70 now and never had again. So wanted others to read and not be scared, see doc but they may all go away on own like mine and I had alot swimming around. Was very annoying. No pain tho.

I believe I have this, I got a routine eye exam for new glasses about 3 years ago and back then I started seeing floaters and little flashes. Never got anything done they said see a eye doctor if it gets worse. 3 years later I still have the same issues and saw another eye exam for new glasses and I mentioned it and they said they didn't really see anything. Can this come and go? Why did one see it and not the other? Should I see a professional eye doctor?
I went to get my eyes tested and they said I need glasses and still haven't got them. Lately I feel im very nearsighted and have been for a while. I can't see the board at school. I'm getting really worried. I feel they're getting worse and worse and want to go to the doctors or something.
S R You should wear glasses. I needed glasses by kindergarten and was told that if I never wore them, I might lose my sight by the age of 20. I only wore them in kindergarten, 7th grade, and some of 8th grade. I'm 19 now, and I'm starting to get symptoms. I hope glasses are what can fix this.
I have two question's for you doctor. When I encounter the flashy thing in my eye what should I do? Second and why do I get a headache after the eye flashing stops? Please answer doctor. Please help Doctor I am just 13 years old and I'm really frustrated..
Carlos Sta. Maria I'm not a doctor. Is the headache just on one side of the head? If that is the case, then it's a migraine. The flashing might be part of the aura. There is no need to worry but you should see a doctor and he may get something to relieve it.
Lovely Video clip! Sorry for butting in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you ever tried - Franaar Spectacular Look Formula (do a search on google)? It is a great exclusive product for curing eye floaters minus the hard work. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my old buddy Taylor at very last got cool results with it.
Thanks so much for making this! As a younger patient (early 20s), it puts me at ease actually knowing what’s going on in there. Is it possible to still experience curtaining and flashes after treatment? I just recently had laser treatment and I’m fearful it may not have been effective.
Don’t worry sweetheart, I believe it may take some time to heal and to fully recover vision. Floaters especially do not go away so fast because the vitreous is still detaching but that’s a harmless process. If your tear was treated on time with laser then you are most likely safe.
I have had retinal hole and I got done the laser procedure to fix it but the doctor said to me do not t lift weights.... but I need to workout I want to..... so what I wanna know is what would happen if I continue to lift weights in my chest and biceps and back
i was riding my bike when I noticed some blood discharge in my right eye. Maybe, it was due to air pressure in eye. After few days, i had a huge flash and alot of floaters. Do i need to worry about?
I also get flashers and floaters and when I go to the doctor they tell me that this is the cause of weakness of body but but my floaters are increasing day by day
sean o'farrell Did you find solution to this? I had my examination done today and my doc said i am fine as of now. I have loads of floaters in my eyes and flashy lights at the sides of both my eyes. Also a flashy light sometimes in between. Please help me I am worried :(
