Great video, very helpful information! I am planning to spend time living in Thailand, also from the states. Looking forward to more videos, found your channel from Timothy Wards channel.
Great energy and clarity. I’m like you except I chose to sell my primary home (way too many restrictions and laws that make it stressful to live there plus the exorbitant property taxes), but kept other low stress properties. I just returned from Thailand. Costs are 20% of my costs here, plus I fell fully alive, vibrant, engaged with my life, learning fascinating things every moment and making many new friends, and a healthier diet and lifestyle. 🙏🏼
You might get chicken rice for 30bt but that’s not a meal, a pad kra pao moo with rice is a decent meal and that’s 70bt in t21, large phad thai gai at the night market is 60/70 and that will feed a big guy!
Hey R&G...great ending, had me laughing. Nice of you to take care of the mad dawgs out there. Also thx for putting together some breakdowns on your costs in Pattaya. You are always so organized ! Safe travels !
@@RetireandGo I used to have a blog with thousands of followers. it was great fun until the crazies start harrassing you. when they start threatening your life, that is when I stopped blogging publicly. lots of my friends who were bloggers too also stopped blogging for the same reason. be careful with whom you meet up. I say this from experience.
Great video. I love that scene 🎬 in the restaurant, man that made me want to be back in Thailand, I love that type of place to eat. Her smile was priceless. Thanks for going to the trouble of sharing.
You can extend the original 30 day tourist visa with another 30 days by paying 1900 THB. The tourist visa extension. You can stay 60 days in total. You can also apply for a 90 day tourist visa in overseas to stay a little longer in Thailand.
I was staying at Harmony Inn on Tharappya Road soi 7 next to the Zing Hotel and paying the monthly rate of 500 Bhat a day. The room was 40sq metres balcony, fridge microwave big screen TV all utilities included and a nice pool and on the Bhat bus route
You are in high season at the moment. You should wait until May when it's Low season and everything goes down in price also jomtien is a fantastic location
Tut tut my friend, you go to pratumnak, yet miss out some hot spots for eating. Try the sit down/or takeaway at the red lights on the hill, 50/60 baht most things. For breakfast. Soi whitehouse Danish bar is a must do, eat like a horse 160bht, sunday night roast is a 10/10. , then you have the rompho further down. Plus the bars. Good luck!
@@RetireandGohi scott from New Zealand would 8million baht and pension give me comfortable life living in Thailand like to live in bang saray thank you from Scott
When I was there I wound up eating variations on a "Full English Breakfaast" at a number of restaraunts. Always under 200 baht. I had my teeth cleaned at Hollywood Smile - $40 At ny age, it looks like insurance in Thailand will be a lot more. I was looking at puttin a million baht in a local account for health care needs
Very interesting! Yes I love those breakfast meals Dental work in Thailand is the way to go The insurance account is interesting I would like to know more about that
Great video. I walked the same path when I stayed at the Lewitt hotel (paid too much at this place) I recommend the D Hotel on Soi Buchao excellent information on the cost-of-living in Pattaya! Healthcare is something I didn’t think about. Thank you!
Thanks for the video and advice. Last year, I lived in the Jomtien area for 6 months and my monthly budget was $3K and that's with companionship with a regular Thai lady for 3x a week without buying any LDs and barfines. I did not eat any western food due way more expensive and been eating Thai food in the market. In my early 50's now, I was planning to retire but I changed my mind in the very last second and back to work again in CA, started from scratch. Will do this again, next year.
Sutus Court is my go to hotel too. Just done 5 nights in the main building, Floor 7, the top floor. Cheap Charlies next door for a pint of Guinness. That's all you need.....
Find the music and the videos therapeutic, in addition to being informative. Like your style, with the focus on minimalism, with no political or controversial content
Is there a need to wash the vegis in iodine water before cooking as in some places in S. America? I love Hawaiian papaya and it is not cheap on the mainland. That was nice to feed the dawgs.
Just discovered, and subscribed. You could've been a professional reporter in the states from what I can tell? Appreciate the breakdown.......The last part with the wtf doesn't bother me, but may have people judging? Looking forward to more. Thsnks!
Aloha. 😀We will be staying In Bangkok for extra few days on our own. What the best way to travel from BKk to Pattaya? Bus, Turk Tuk? We probably won’t run into each other since you already in Thailand. Thanks for sharing the cost of everything so we can get some ideas! Aloha👍
This is exactly the info i was looking for. Hotel tips, dental tips. As we age dental issues pop up also and the cost in the U.S. will kill you. In any country it is in the dentist's hands not always the diploma from a well known university. For molars best to go with gold and no computer. Also key is a good lab with good technicians. With cad-cam these days a dentist can do things anywhere. I presume things are sanitary where you go. These days how to keep things sanitary is common knowledge and most dentists train in well known centers. Sometimes pain comes up and just goes away. They did right. Food tips are always good. I like the room at the food restaurant . I could live there long term no prob. Do you have a card from the healthcare company i presume? They repay you after you pay with the Visa? Too many questions. That is a very good price for healthcare. Thanks!
Those condos are expensive for Pattaya but I suppose if you’re paying the daily rate that’s what you’ll get. You can easily spend less than $300/month if you sign up for that long. Also, a 30-day visa extension is obtainable for about $60, so you can at least do 60 days til you have to leave.
Are u guys crazy 3k in Brazil is like doctors salary, u can have whatever u want, come to Brazil my friend 1k is more than enough I’m living on 600,00 a month and I don’t missing nothing, got a nice condo with pool inside the jungle on the beach for 200,00 plus all my utilities 100,00 internet, phone, electricity, plus 200,00 food, 100,00 for others, u don’t need transportation here where I’m
I didnt watch you videos while traveling to Bangkok; Now I am back to California, i really love to watch your shows. Two thumbs up for your videos especially those about Thailand.
The spelling of Phratamnak is very frustrating, there seems to be about 4 different ways! But one thing is for sure, it’s my favourite area to live long term 😊. If your over 50 years old, it’s very easy to get a yearly Non O visa, once your in Thailand on a 30 day entry just visit a reputable visa agent!
I love love Pattaya. But I am chomping at the bit to see you in Hua Hin. You gotta' do a flyby and say hello to Nina!! A whole sit down discussion with her perhaps?
I loved my trip to Hua Hin. My GF? Well, she wasn't impressed so much. She liked Pattaya much better. At any rate.....yeah.....an interview with Nina. That would be something.
@@RetireandGo RU-vidr "Having Fun With Nina". 25k subscribers. She owns a hotel in Hua Hin and goes around town mostly interviewing locals and promoting Hua Hin. Hua Hin was Forbes #1 pick for retirement pretty recently. It's got everything Jomtien/Pattaya has but much less populated, quieter, less dense. Nina is super sweet and knows Hua Hin. I myself would love to see you have conversations once in awhile on your channel.
Luv walking beach road early morning when on vacation in Pattaya also have visited 9 times always great trips want to stay longer when I ret in 3 more years age 60
Have you tried cost of living in places like Seoul Koreas or it's countryside cities? I understand that some expats can even pull off a sub $1000K / month life in smaller Japanese cities too. Then there is Mongolia and even parts Taiwan. You can have more content this way.
I had a crown done with rood canal and it was several thousand!!!! Stupid question, how often do you get check up and cleaning? Its hard for me, they don't do them on the military base I'm on. A lot of the time American dentist are months out.
Okay so let me ask one question. Whole 'FIRE' movement, is a little bit overhyped for me. While it may seems a dream-lifestyle to someone who worked whole life and saw nothing else - this is in fact living without purpose. How are you dealing with this? Im at my mid 30s, left my corpo job to travel. Did this for 5monts. Since December 2023 I visited Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia... and feeling terribly exhausted, stopped enjoying it, feeling bored and tired. Need to get back to home right now. How you maintaining this kind of lifestyle? Maybe you can make one video about that? Thanks
That would be a great video for sure. 1. Invest in dividend stocks and bond funds until you have about 2000 a month in passive income . 2. Move to low cost country That’s my FIRE plan There is no 4 percent rule Otherwise they are kind of close I think
Thailand is not the place to retire anymore. Great to visit or live and work there, but not for retirees. Starting 1 Jan 2024 Thailand now taxes the income of retired Expats (including Pensions), if you live in Thailand 180 days or more in a year, while all the other countries in SEAsia do not. Hopefully Thailand will change their mind, but as it is now, starting on Jan 2025 Expats have been told to pay income taxes on the money they brought to Thailand from 1 Jan 2024 onwards. Thailand also wants to implement worldwide taxation, so even if you dont remit the money to Thailand they want to tax it . No matter how good their Visas are or the country is - for retired Expats Thailand is not the best option (we are leaving).
I understand The tax situation is crazy Please look at the new digital nomads visa in Indonesia It’s one year No taxes Just renew it annually I’m looking at it for 2026 and beyond
I will Never get another Root Canal, as my old one became infected (terrible pain) dumb dentist didn't even prescribe Anti-Niotics, she then said $4k to do a new root canal Via a specialist, so went somewhere else and had it removed and a bridge put in, Do your own research on root canals and the Anaerobic bacteria that can exist in dead tissue/teeth.
Ouch! I totally understand Pain and expensive I have gone with the crown only so far I’m praying I don’t need to go root canal Thank you for sharing this experience
Speaking of living in different countries, I see a lot of russia in the news. I heard once that Moscow is better ran cleaner safer city than USA cities lol.
People who are thinking of living full time in Bangkok should seek the option of those who live (and have been living for years) in Bangkok. You can't live comfortably for less than $1600 per month. Sure it's doable for less but not really sustainable. Most expats who live full time in Bangkok are on $2000 budget (or more ) per month.. Please note that 2k does not offer a high living standard but rather a very decent one.
2000 is a very comfortable life in Southeast Asia in general. Other than Singapore haha Otherwise 2000 a month is a pleasant and wonderful life. I’m proving it for my third year now :-)
I have been living in thailand for over 26+ years. working on my 27th year now. I live on less than 1000 dollars a month all this time. and I assure you I live a good life. eat out daily. all-you-can-eat breakfast buffets for 199 baht. even 179 baht. a better one 219 baht. many around. I even hangout on walking street twice a week. easy on 1000 dollars a month.
Forgive me I stumbled on your channel if my maths is correct your paying 25k to stay at Sutus court ? is this a sort term accommodation or have you been there for a while ? If long term why are you not going the condo route
There are cheaper condos for sure if you extend your visas out With a 30 day visa I stay at two sometimes three hotels in different areas and head to the next country Then return the following year :-) Long term you can save money!
How are the noise levels at night at Sutus Court ? It seems to be right in the middle of the action so I was wondering if you had any issues with loud noise from the street.
I’ve stayed at Sutus Court many times over the years, the rooms at the back are very quiet and the first smaller swimming in the vlog, is a jacuzzi which you can turn on, amazing 😊
Great question You can ask for inside facing rooms Otherwise there is a little bar music at night You can go past 3rd road for cheaper rooms and no noise at night except the occasional scooter with no muffler haha
I really enjoy your Vlogs and have been a subscriber for a while. I am in a position to retire soon. With investments and lifestyle what do you believe is the benchmark for cash to travel South East Asia. What should you have as a minimum? I understand that is open ended - interested in your view.
I would shoot for 2000 a month income to be ready for south east Asia That will not only cover your monthly expenses but give you a few hundred a month to keep buying more dividend stocks That way you build your retirement in retirement
True, no argument from me there haha I had shoulder surgery from government work I was not supposed to even do them but heck yes I’m going to I can do ten straight :-)
Can anyone suggest a good health insurance that covers SE Asia and also US? Plan to be in SE Asia long term, but needs to comeback to the US about one month per year.
Thanks for the info. I'dlike to tell you, kindly, that your diet contains way too much sugar. Coke, yogurt & noodles spike your glucose levels greatly. Good luck out there.
That’s interesting! I don’t know I’ll have to look I go to Pattaya international dental center now They are incredible More dental information coming in future videos
You traveled all the way to Thailand to eat granola?!! Don't be like that! Throw granola away - instead buy a sandwich and beer at seven eleven. That's real Thailand!
I don’t live in Thailand I’m using the visitor visa That way I can go to any country any time More flexibility Make sure you set up social security before you live overseas and it should all be online like your banking No wiring money or mail
There's a bad trend amongst YT vloggers that are either so crass or have a distinct lack of vocabulary. Stop calling these economies 'cheap'. You're basically facilitating an imminent price increase. Explain that they're less costly or good value, but please stop calling them cheap. Also you stated that Dragon house was built in the 60's? I think that is highly unlikely, as Pattaya was a sleepy fishing village back then. Soi Buakhao didn't go past The Marquee bar until 1991 ish. I know this from talking to people who've been visiting Pattaya since 1976. I've a friend who went there in 1985 and said none of the Soi's along Beach Rd existed as they do now. They were merely cut ways and Walking Street was just about the only area of entertainment. These people are talking from first hand experience.
Chill ok? These countries are cheap in comparison to the west, I’m very clear about this. These countries don’t bankroll lazy people to not work. That’s why they are cheaper to live in.
Thailand hospitals are better run than anything I visited in the US The costs … I mean a tenth of western prices for procedures I would rethink it Thailand healthcare is incredible
