You can get a 5 year retirement visa for Bali if you are at least 55 years old with proof of pension & insurance 🤓😎 Anyway, in case you want free APPL shares ► bit.ly/3eQXvjO

Bali hospitals have improved much in the past few years. If I retired in Australia, I'd be fiscally lacking, but not in Indonesia🇮🇩 😄💞

At 74, a Singaporean, just retired, I plan to spent my retirement spending 3 month in a Thai village in Laem Thong, planting fruits & vegetables (2nd home) and move around SEA, back to Singapore & repeat the cycle all over again…till I can move no more. 😊 I am very healthy still. Visit my friend & family yearly. Village people are very accommodating & friendly. (No need to retire in 1 place as Singapore is just 2 hrs by plane to Thailand or elsewhere around SEA) Live in best of the 2 world, so to speak. 👍

If you want adventure (especially outdoor adventure), Indonesia has a lot of things to offer. Even at this day many can comfortably settle in Bali and then went to a very short hop from Bali to Lombok to watch MotoGP (Mandalika), spent a decent time in Surabaya when kinda bit missed the highly urbanised environment, or simply admires the hidden gems that were scattered on the archipelago.

For many retirees that want to spent retirement in Bali, be it foreigners and Indonesians, lots of them are tend to move away from crowded areas in Bali and go as far as Singaraja, Candidasa, or Amplapura to had a very relaxed life. Of course, the healthcare issue might be a big concern for some but as far as i can learn is that as long as you were psychologically comfortable and readjusting easily, any health concerns would be the last thing that would pop up on your mind.

hullo! thanks for stopping by n leaving us your kind notes hehe. A lot of ppl automatically think kids mean that they're precluded from our life here in Bali but that's really just kinda a mental excuse - i do understand cos kids take up a lot of their minds n they prob dont have extra space to figure out financial stuff to make this work - but the truth is lots of people doing what we do here come with 1 or 2 or even 3 kids. There are schooling options here and a lot of the kids look really happy, fit and outgoing n they enjoy the nature and the lifestyle here too. Its just that your financial threshold will be higher than ours. but if your kids are still young they tend to be cheaper apparently.

Just came back from a Java+Bali trip and I have to say I felt safe everywhere. Your instinct is a good guide for safety and the vibes were peaceful wherever we went. Sure, you can still be unlucky but any safety difference between Australia, Singapore and Bali should not be enough for it to factor in to any decision to live there. Central America or the Caribbean would be a whole different story.

@@JeanVoronkova didnt get to Ulus but it’s on my list next trip. I would not recommend any elderly person making the climb down Diamond Beach in Nusa Penida, It took me some Hail Marys and true grit to make it up the treacherous climb, it was that or succumb to a Robinson Crusoe life on the beach living off the sea forever staying down there 😂 but the scenery is truly spectacular. One thing I did do on this trip is I got in touch with a local driver who was asking if anyone coming to Bali had any unwanted clothing to give to the poor in the villages. I managed to give him a bag of decent clothing, some which was new and today he showed me pics ofthe villagers receiving these clothes. I was so moved and humbled that such a small gesture could produce such big grateful smiles. I did ask him if he needed anything else, he said books and stationery etc for kids. I think the universe has given me a task to do from now on, going to Bali is not just for fun and frolic but to make a difference and I hope to do this on future trips. I will let you know next time Im there so if you have the time I would love to meet you and Vitaly n maybe get some ideas on what we can do to help the less fortunate there, including the animal shelters there as well. Why would anyone in their right mind retired in the most expensive country in the world? (Singapore).
@JeanVoronkova
@JeanVoronkova 2 года назад
because all humans have a home bias and if you were born and bred Singaporean, then the bias towards a retirement location is naturally, home (plus u've been struggling all your life to be able to afford it lol).
@MaxSujyReact
@MaxSujyReact 2 года назад
@@JeanVoronkova I was talking from a foreign point of view, which I assumed that 90%+ of your viewers are not from Singapore. Given your answer, it's probably way more then 10%. Having said that, the "home bias" aspect of it is imo partially true. If you are someone who love traveling, and was not a corporate slave for 40+ years, you will rarely choose home (if home is Singapore), given the opportunity and lower cost elsewhere (which you already know about). But if you worked like crazy for 40 years with a typical slave mindset, few vacations, with not much knowledge of life outside of Singapore apart from watching RU-vid videos, the need to retired elsewhere won't be there (nor the energy). My parents are perfect example of that. They did travel some but their outside of Canada experience is always in the Caribbean (Cuba, Jamaica, etc), in all-included resort. There is zero chance of them retiring elsewhere even if it mean retiring early. It's a mindset issue for most people, not a financial issue. My audience is 95% Japanese, a lot of them don't even have a passport. It sadden me that they can only see the world through the internet. I live in Thailand with my wife in the middle of nowhere. Semi-retired. When I say "right mind", I meant from the point of view of having life experience outside of what I described above (being a societal slave). This is something that most influencers won't talk about because they live a capitalist lifestyle (trade crypto, stock market, drop shipping, tell others how to make money, etc, fields with a lot of people trying but few who ever succeed). Fields where you making money mean that most who try lose. People like us who retired early have done so by getting out of our comfort zone, which the vast majority of people will never do. This is where that "home bias" thing come into effect. It's almost imposed by the lifestyle that you need to have living in expensive country like Singapore. The government purpose is to make sure that few people do what you did, and most do that "home bias born and bread" thing. Opening too many people eyes is a threat to capitalist society.

@JeanVoronkova
@JeanVoronkova 2 года назад
Thanks Ryan, glad u like the video! I went thru my own dad retiring back whilst i was still a lawyer - from observing him (i even bought him a book about "How to prepare for retirement" n it was also about mental prep, not just $$) i kinda knew alr retirement is a bit of a transition phase at the start as u get used to not being in a day job. He took about 2 years to get used to retirement life - he was very adrift n grumpy n lost of identity at first - then he found his stride in his cooking and baking and swimming w friends n he has been really happy ever since! he's my inspiration actually. He always thinks his "products" can be tastier, even though its really delicious alr! For me i think the decade i spent drifting n traveling n freelancing was the transition into eventual retirement. I struggled for years w the sense of financial insecurity n wanting to go back to a day job cos i was scared of my future. But i clung on cos i truly loved what i was doing in my newfound freedom n i found solutions n adjusted perspectives. What Singaporeans deem as "financial insecurity" is still a damn huge buffer for most people out there in this world. N they all survive. There's a lot of stuff one can do n keep busy w in life that's fun n meaningful and not tied to income production, but society & govt prob doesn't want majority of us to realise that cos they need economic drivers. Anyway, the reality of retirement now, esp early retirees like us, is that it's a productive retirement. We just dont do shit we don't want to do just cos we need money. We're still active. THis YT stuff keeps me really busy but i'm inspired by what i'm doing so it feels great. V is shooting n producing n learning about production stuff all the time n he's super happy. We also both keep driving towards a higher level in our surfing which is really tiring (i'm starting to feel my age in this sport!).... the way one does retirement determines how one feels about it i think. You can shape your own to fit your dreams!

@deanpapadopoulos3314
@deanpapadopoulos3314 2 года назад
Thank you. It’s really about the vibe. Each person requires it: some prefer a world of endless transactions while others prefer new experiences. The genetics determine a lot of this. Secondly, there are no correct decisions in life; there are simply trade offs. If one is comfortable with the trade offs of Bali vs. their home country, then it makes sense to choose Bali. Thirdly, we are not potted plants, thankfully. The nomadic gene that creates a desire to follow the changing season in order to access herds for hunting and fruits and vegetables means continuing to travel after moving to Bali will keep us happy and that believing that we now have a greater proportion of the farming gene (that makes us sit still for the process of farming) is to clearly not understand the importance of the role our genes play in our “preferences” which are in fact our programming. Lastly and often never considered is this: the variables that drove one away to move from the people and from the community they were raised in are numerous and strong, as no human being would voluntarily endure the pain of leaving if it were not for serious psychological and emotional reasons that required one’s survival by moving. These reasons have not left nor have they changed at the point of origin. In fact, with our personal development due to our liberation, they seem even starker upon return visits to “home” and cause us to look to see if indeed we did buy a return ticket. Home is a love of movement, of topography, of people, of weather, of the activities that the weather permits, of food, and of VALUE. As a European raised in North America who has lived in Micronesia for decades and has seen the world, my choice for travel is IN PART a business decision. Fourteen-thousand rupiah for a dollar to a one to one exchange in Europe to visit my home in Crete? Bali and Thailand and Vietnam win every time. Value is a first principle for me: prices matter as does quality of food and of service and especially of the character of the people who I’m exchanging my hard-earned dollars with for the experience I have chosen. It takes thinking to move away from one’s home and this is one of the rewards of meeting people in our travel: by and large, they’re smart and experienced unless they’re new to it.

Better to pick SG for retirement if you have money. Bali does not have as good medical services and facilities compared to SG. How can you live well as a retiree without good medical facilities around. What happen if you get a heart attack in Bali, how long does it take you to get to the nearest hospital?

You're not live in a jungle where there is no medical services and facilities here. If you only think medical is important then you can go to the biggest hospital in Bali with good service and facilities. Stop being stupid saying if you have mone, better to pick SG? Do you think Bali is for the less wealthy person? Why pick the expensive one while you can get a better experience at the other place. It's not worthy to live while the water is so expensive while you have cheaper with the same quality at the other place. 800SGD for an apartment while you can get the best apartment at the other place. Singapore is too overprice for a standard area of living.

Don’t know if I would be a long-term resident retiree, but e.g. a month in sgn and a month in Bangkok would be perfect. Given the cost differential between US and Asian countries Could be quite comfortable. Upscale condo with maid service in Thailand is about $700 per month. Would cost five times that in US. Quality healthcare is an issue. Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia on the bucket list to check out. Japan is nice but expensive in the cities? South Korea is too cold?

Fantastic videos, Jean... really terrific. If I'm not mistaken, you're from China but lived in SG. Therefore, is there any way you could do a similar video to this one for Chinese people with you speaking in your home tongue? Something that might answer their questions and put them at ease about relocating. Of course there's still a dilemma... RU-vid is banned in China (do you know of another platform where Chinese people could view such a video if you were to make one?) Thank you for your videos, Jean. I'll be over in late December for 3 weeks, including Nusa Lembongan... hope to bump into you and Vitali by chance. Warm regards, Ric.

Hi Jean, thanks to share this thoughtful information about Singapore vs Bali. For me, whether retire in SG or Bali, in the end, it depends on what we value most in life. For example, in the past I always thought about retire earlier will be nice, till I found out from a lot of friends, relatives, and even common people when they retire earlier (especially when they are aging such as 70s) their health actually getting worse, and there is a lot of sad stories follow, such as losing the purpose of life, feeling unworthy because no contribution for others, mentally degrade, etc. Somehow I found out that people who keep active and working in their old age, actually they live longer, healthier and they have a more fulfilling life. Of course, I'm not talking about over-work and overstretching ourselves like what people in Singapore normally do. The idea if we can still be active and not totally retire, and we are still doing something valuable for the others, this will give us a sense of a purpose in life. For me personally, in my 65s I will choose Bali due to the affordable cost of living and the quality of life (nature, beach, mountain, lake, people, garden, etc), while still being active in something that I like to do which can benefit other people eg gardening, becoming a consultant, opening a shop, lecturer, vlogger, investment, book author, etc. When I'm younger somehow I will still choose Singapore due to my work nature which is very Technology related, and the majority of technology clients also reside in Singapore. Singapore is one of the best countries in Asia even in the world, with its great technological advancement. Thus for me, a Hybrid is the best according to my age. Maybe, You can make the next video on 'how foreigner can afford to live in Bali for the rest of their life, will be a remarkably interesting topic that I would really love to know, and thanks again for doing this comparison works at the two best places in the world, well done and keep up the great job.

hi Rusman, thank you for this kind note. Was v interesting to read about your opinion about the 2 places n your own plans. Agree about retirement risks of loss of identity n health etc but i really think its about how you shape your own retirement and prepare for it maybe. For us retirement now means being free to choose what to do instd of being bound by the need for a salary. We're still v busy doing stuff that's meaninful for us - the surf, which also keeps us fit - n making these videos - for me its about sharing my thoughts n ideas which i find very motivational cos ppl say it helps them - n for V he loves doing the production side its his interests. I think its just the way we think about retirement that needs to be rethought. But yes i do think we all need a hybrid plan for where to stay hehe

I suppose once you leave your comfort zone, it is hard to have a regular income stream to live in Bali to support your expenses. Do you think by doing Vblog and youtube be good enough to generate reward from subscribers build-up, getting more likes and shares?

You are comparing two cities /states that cannot be compared at all and here are the reasons why: 1- Bali is a small island, a province within a state and Singapore is a city/state itself. 2- Indonesian people are well known for being the top 1 medical tourist in Malaysia ... so do not expect any good infrastructure to get treated in Bali because there's none. Corruption and Safety... I'd say within the next few years we will see a rise of both in Bali ... we will see .. 4- Internet... no. compare between SIN and Bali ... and also Connectivity: Singapore has more flights and buses to world-class cities than Bali ... SHopping and Facilities: Bali has no shipping centre like the ones in Jakarta, I am not sure why but Bali which is self-labelled as a luxury destination should have its suite of Luxury stores same like St Moritz, Courchevel, Kitzbuhel and other places in Europe... out of the continent ... well St Bart can match Bali but they are way more equipped shoppingwise. Education: I've never heard of any major international school in Bali. I think you should think twice before making a video because your comparison is useless: as mentioned in the beginning, you cannot compare a wealthy city-state to a local tourist destination at all. Bali has no banks, has never been a port, do not have any heavy industry... Bali and its surroundings were just on standby during the pandemic waiting for COVID to be over meanwhile, Singapore was still prospering during that time. I strongly suggest you compare Bali to some of the islands in the Caribbeans and Singapore to Switzerland or Luxembourg... or even Brunei ... but not to a local tourist spt!

Yet…. There’s a sizeable population of people retired here in Bali, who could have chosen to retire in Singapore instead but for now they’re here enjoying life… n it’s a continual toss up between the 2 places for this group.

when a human dies. none of the treasures that we have can be brought to the afterlife. And when that human dies....people will not say that he is the one who died rich....but people will say that he is the one who died happily.... if we live still worrying about life support facilities or personal status.... then life is like being in prison with fear .... how can you be happy if you live in shackles. many people die not because of their disease but because of their psychological weakness. many people survived serious illness because of their mental strength.... Then there is a saying that in a healthy body there is a strong soul (Men sana in corpore sano).... So it's all up to you to choose to live a happy life or live in worries in retirement. before death picks you up,

Indonesian feel proud of hard work but sadly they lack of any idea of hard productivity like the Singapore. Education never stimulated the sense of innovation, investment or enterprise. As long as the country doesn't enter as a global competitor in technologies and industries, same story will be seen.

That's why government now banned export of minerals ore like nickel, tin etc to improve Indonesia global competitivenes. Indonesia want high global industry build their supply chain and production plant if they want indonesia's natural resources. For example Hyundai has electric car assembly plant in Indonesia now and their electric battery plant will start production in 2024. But do you know what global reaction with Indonesia decision? Indonesia was sued by Europe through the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding the ban on nickel ore exports which took effect January 1st 2020.

Sry to say but it’s a v one sided towards bali. Not true abt sg: 1. Sg has lot of space with effective use of space so it doesn’t feel densely populated compared to all cities. 2. Ppl have opportunities in sg hence they are run to grow. 3. It’s the most green city in the world with 100s of park all arnd. As a city
