We’re out of here(Colorado)in about 6-9 months, once I hit 30 years of service @ UPS & get my full pension. This may sound completely off-topic, but my absolute favorite thing about you two is that you don’t interrupt or talk-over each other! My dad’s friend goes to KL every winter for 3-4 months (to escape the cold) and rents a suite at the Marriott. For the rest of the year he lives on the east coast of the States. He’s been doing this for decades. He’s been such a regular and good customer that the Marriott there gives him a special monthly rate. He gets free all you can eat breakfast buffet, and maid service. Cheaper and nicer than any Air bnb or renting an apartment. I’m gonna do something like that when I retire.

We had sold our home in 2005 and had purchased a new build townhome. Our builder was having financial problems and we did not close on our new townhome for 11 months. We lived in a two Bed two Bath plus small kitchenette at a Marriott Extended Stay along with our dog for eleven months. We worked out a monthly charge which included, meals, internet, house cleaning, insurance, phone, refuse disposal, gas, electric,office, workout room, indoor outdoor pool, parking, transportation to air port, etc. We had the time of our lives. It was so inexpensive in the long run, because you have one charge that covers EVERYTHING. Plus you can’t believe the points we accumulated for future travel.

This is the same deal for me. I have lived in this Washington DC area for 20 years and have a nice house here: until a couple years ago. The water pipes on all floors burst while I was on a trip. I came home to garbage and mice everywhere so needed a room quickly while still working. Had to let the house go on sale. One of the coworkers mentioned I should call the local Holiday Inn Express for a room. Stayed in the room for a couple months that became years after retiring, Still there now. I could have bought another house but would have sold the original had I seen this before. The monthly rate is covered by my pension payments and includes lots of benefits plus wireless connection. The staff have been absolutely great and this gives total freedom in making plans and following actions. Regards

We buy IHG points when they have a 100% free or 50% off. My wife and I will both buy the full amount allowed whenever it is offered. IHG is almost everywhere, and if you stay at Holiday Inn Express (nothing fancy), you get free breakfast and they have laundry machines for your use. Also get the IHG credit card for the sign on points and the free hotel room gift every renewal. Plus they are very generous with giving you points on your spend. For example, x5 points per dollar spent at gas stations. Plus by getting this card you will be IHG Platinum. We have been retired for 16 years (age 47) and traveling around all the time in the States and recently one month in Asia. IHG is the way to go.

I just spent a month in Vietnam. You don't have to lock yourself into a specific hotel while desperately trying to get free food which will make you want to stay at the hotel instead of exploring the city. You can get a place to stay for $20-25 a night and get a whole lot more variety in the places you stay while eating out all over the city on most days for another $500 per month per couple. That's less than $1500 per month per couple.

One thing they didn't tell you is, the 250,000 point buy was an invitation, it's not open to everyone. And you can't buy anymore points for a calendar year than either the 150,000 or 250,000. So at the end of his year, he cannot start over and buy 250,000 in December and 150,000 in January again, because he's exhausted his buy for that year. But, through spending they might have accumulated more points, but it seems as though they don't use the Hyatt card for spending. Also, you'll need to seek out new hotels to get these point buys, as once they are open and booked, the point value goes up considerably. None of the point values in this video are available any more. And Hyatt increased their Category 1 to 5,000 points, no more 3,500 point levels. As they said, Hilton is not the best, but they aren't worthless. They give every 5th night free and if you use the Business Hilton Card, the points add up quite quickly, although Hyatt Business card is a better spend for certain categories.

We are thrilled at the chance this may give us to stay for long stays abroad, we are retired, but not getting rid of our home. We already downsized, from our 6 bedroom home in suburbia, to our cabin in the woods. We are now reducing our unnecessary items and planning to travel 3-4 months of the year, Michigan winter. We love summers here, gardening, boating, biking, etc. But we still have lots of the world to explore. Our last trip through Europe had us staying at a few less than optimal airbnbs, so your video has us rethinking our approach to staying in airbnbs and doing all of the cooking and cleaning.

I also found that some full serve hotels have unadvertised discount pricing (up to 30% off) for an extended stay. Usually 12+ nights. But that's only helpful if you're paying cash. I usually go to the hotel website and put in a random 21-day stay and see what price comes up. Sometimes, it's a lower cost per day compared to shorter stays. We did that for a 13 night stay in Seattle at a full serve Hyatt and got 30% off. Our suite was cheaper than a standard room at another full serve Hyatt just a few blocks away.

@DaveM-FFB

@@alexandriadileonardo3081 You'll need a credit card to make the reservation. But pay in cash upon arrival or checkout. But why would you do that? If you use a debit card to make the reservation, they'll put a hold of approximately $250 on your checking account, which will reduce your checking account balance. Rental car agencies do the same thing. So if you want to travel, you really need a credit card.

I traveled for 20 years as the executive director and co-founder of a large technology consortium. I used to spend about 100 nights a year in Marriott, Hilton, and intercontinental flagship hotels. Please bring an ultraviolet light detector with you and check out your next hotel room. Semen and urine everywhere. Even the top end hotels do not provide toiletries that would suffice for my use. I don't use expensive brands, but I use healthy and non-scented brands, none of which hotels provide. Hotel cleaning is rudimentary. Never once have I stayed in a hotel room without completely wiping down the entire suite with my own pack of disposable wipes soaked in alcohol. The same goes with the gyms, the elevator buttons, and everything at the buffet. I'm not saying hotel living is not possible, I'm just stressing to you the importance of sanitizing your suite. Bring your own pillow, nothing you can do will get the bacteria out of pillows used by thousands of people before you.

I’ve asked the same questions from lots of RU-vidrs that live a vagabond type life. What do you do about healthcare? Recovery and physical therapy after surgery or illness can require lots of time. How do you handle having a permanent address necessary for driver’s licenses, Medicare communications, etc.?
@Angela-ne9cy
@Angela-ne9cy 2 месяца назад
Most purchase travel insurance, which covers quite a lot. Also keep in mind, many countries have drastically cheaper healthcare costs. Permanent address = use a friend or family member, register your license in that state. Or (as I'm doing) set up residence in South Dakota, which only requires one day in the state and offers mail services for the residency.
@ad6417
@ad6417 2 месяца назад
The problem with travel insurance is there's a limites you can have back-to-back. So you have to constantly keep switching companies and every time you do the rates go up. And some companies will not let you use travel insurance inside the US. This is a totally bad idea.

I was a road warrior for 25+ years. The biggest tradeoff for a long-term stay at a full serve hotel property is no self-serve laundry. The extended stay hotels will have that, but they don't have the club lounges. Sometimes, I would stay at a full serve property for 10 nights, then check into a Marriott Courtyard or Hyatt Place for 1 night to do a couple loads of laundry.
@GroundedLifeFinances
@GroundedLifeFinances 3 месяца назад
That's going to be interesting to see how it works for us. We have some Hyatt Places coming up. The IHG platinum card status is giving us some free laundry here done by the hotel, the rest we are just paying for because it's very inexpensive. In the US I imagine that laundry bill would be higher. The Hyatt Regency rate in Yogya in the screenshot included 2 pieces of laundry per day for the $58 a night.
@DaveM-FFB
@DaveM-FFB 3 месяца назад
@@GroundedLifeFinances FYI - The last time we used a public laundromat, two of my shirts got bleached from whoever used the machine before me. While staying at a Hyatt Regency, I thought about calling a nearby Hyatt Place and asking the manager if he'd be willing to allow a Globalist to use their self serve laundry for a couple of hours while dining at their cafe/bar. Find a hotel that is pet friendly. You could be a registered emotional that requires a pet of your choice. I see people all the time bringing in their pets. The store had to crack down on these people because pets are not allowed in shopping carts. Some bring their own or use a buggy that they can ride and then those rules don't apply. Just a thought I don't judge people for having their pets with them. Yesterday I saw a woman holding her cat while waiting for her husband to load the truck at Tractor supply. 73

Always saw that, no one else found out this secret, now y have. No administrative paperwork, simple living as it was meant to be. No admin costs also. See, the US don’t want to provide these services anymore, exactly. All you have to do is pay up, yr only other costs, phone, food, transport. That’s enough things to take care of. And no minding of pets, which most people are addicted to. It’s fine, but you’re stuck just like if one needs a babysitter. Don’t know why we were the only one who saw this. Finally my brother saw that. He said, when this dog dies, no more. You can’t go anywhere, exactly. A family member always said, ‘kids and dogs’. Not to be mean, but true, it’s a life choice. Glad to have found this channel. Always liked this way to live, travel. Have your house, if you do, in a certain country, and take off, go. Even cruises. Tauck cruises are small and very historically thorough, small group and personal. Never went on one, but just found out about them. They’re are probably many though.

This is a great video, very informative. My decision to stay in Airbnbs is based on SPACE available in an apartment as opposed to a hotel room/suite and in particular access to OUTDOOR space.I always book an Airbnb with a terrace or balcony where we can sit out.Hotels offer fantastic amenities but don’t you miss being able to sit in your own private space outdoors.?I realize this is an entirely personal preference

I need to learn how to use points in general. Great video!
@msadventure49
@msadventure49 3 месяца назад
It’s pretty easy. When you book and they ask for your payment, there should be an option to pay with points. Generally speaking, You earn points after each stay. So, you have to pay for some nights first to have points to use on room nights. The easiest way to get a bunch of points at once is by getting an enrollment bonus through a new credit card. Most of the Hotel chains have partnerships with certain credit card companies to offer their points as bonuses when you get that card.

It would be amazing for you to put a video out, about how to get a Chase (or any other bank, for that matter) BUSINESS credit card, if you’re retired. We tried to do this and Chase demanded additional tax returns showing our business. (We generate rental income from rental homes that we own - so no brick & mortar business). Thanks Rob & Ally, for all that you do to make our lives / worlds better!!

Alot of what you're doing is really time sharing in some places with your points!! Points are exactly how you purchase time or pay for your time spent there. Some of the biggest names in motel industry are big in time shares.. Marriott Hilton etc. and these resorts are awesome!! This concept was startled in Tahoe
