+Bearfootbob A ratrod, from my understanding, is a vehicle thrown together with a huge portion of junkyard parts. A brand new driveline is pushing it. Then adding a completely cleaned/painted and fabricated frame + all new interior is going towards just a custom truck. Really all they have left that's "Rat rod" is the external paint/dents.

HowardSupra I would have to disagree with you. the "rat" in rat rod stands for ratty I/e incomplete. most times because they cannot afford it yet they love it. nothing wrong with it . and this new genre of hot rodding is awsome in my book. A builder is building his own work of art. and learning as they go even if they have built a hundred of them. some guys like to tinker. but there are people out there who do not know how to tinker , but love the rides non the less. but would quite frankly be lost if there points fried or a lifter stuck or broke a shift fork. but they want to be apart of it. a good bottom end frame running gear ect. on a full bodied vehicle. even the guys that know what there doing may give the illusion of it being crappy underneath but any builder worth a nickel is building the frame , brakes ect. properly. paint does not make it proper welds and geometry make it proper. there is a lot of work and trial and error on the dingiest looking rat rods. "jumkyard" parts as you call it are great there often times OEM pieces. I uses them myself as I am a builder. sometimes I build frames and leave them unpainted dingy and use period correct pieces (even if it is not the same model or manufacturer) other times I will do exactly what this truck builder did rat body with modern components. either way it is a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and hard work.
+Bearfootbob you have no clue as to what a rat rod is. one simply does not just throw money at a vehicle to build a rat rod. rat rods are built from parts pulled out of blackberry bushes and junk yards and traded at swap meets. any one with money can buy a hot rod but a true rat rod is built with as little money as possible. the majority of rat rods are even street legal let alone safe in any way. A rat rod isn't just what ever you can dream of. it's putting car parts that were never ment to go together and getting them to work by building your own custom pieces with some scrap steel a welder and a few cuting tools. just because a stock desiel. engine is in it dozen make it oem even if it was pulled out of a John deer tractor. and put on a Toyota frame that was bought for $50 dollars at a salvage yard.
+Bearfootbob no my opinion does not make a rat rod or not. the defanition of a rat rod makes it a rat rod and this truck does not fit that defanition. a few dents and paint job that is ment to look old does not qualify. like I said before the majority of rat rods arnt even street legal.
