All great points, especially keeping fit, a walk every day is my main thing, ever an hour and a half or two hours in the summer, on the cold winter days I walk on my treadmill, gotta keep moving!! Have a great day!

I'm 47 years old and already got rid of 50% of what I own. I kept the essentials... beautiful and well-made furniture, so I don't plan to buy anymore. Maybe ever! Moving to the countryside where people dress in practical clothing and no one cares about brands and fashion. So I can really earn and keep my living expenses to 10% of my gross income.
"I thought you were going rid of me" hahahaha Decluttering is indeed a hard task, requires patience 100% We sold everything we could and we also still have some stuff left lol
It is very hard to declutter everything because you still think deep down that you will one day need it , need to take the minamilist approach and have very little 🍷🍺if you can 🙂
Debt free, lost weight during lockdown and fit, has been in the process of decluttering for awhile. Hard to let go good quality stuff( which there is a market place to sell them), next question is when can I retire and where can I go? Thanks for sharing your experience and wisdom, Norm and Tina. When I was younger thinking of retirement was scarring me as been old woman. Then when I have organised my self and figured out that I don't have to work till retirement age I could not wait to resign and live my life. De clatter is always in Feng Shui as fresh start. De clatter is good only for people with out house. I need everything and I am using everything. Items I don't need I am giving to charity , but not stripping my home to empty walls as that would give me depression for sure and lonely times. I am not selling my house never ever =) Oh and I have never ever have credit card in my life, I have no debts my style of life is very organised =)
Hi Saba it’s funny as a while back I too thought you had to be old to retire (LOL) 😂then realized that wasn’t true and that you could take early retirement in our case in our 50s or even earlier if you could. We are so glad we took early retirement the last 5 years have given us such wonderful memories before Covid put a stop to travelling 🧳. It took 6 mths to clear my parents items from the house they lived in for 40 years. Last year between moves everything we owned fit into a 15ft x 10ft storage space.
Decluttering- an ongoing process. We decluttered 6 years ago, moving from a 3 story home to an apartment. Wonderful. And yes, we have been decluttering still. Not only is it important to keep mobile but to also work on the muscle tone by doing set exercises at least 2x a week. I'm in a program where I can follow the exercises online using a set of elastic stretch bands and floor exercises to keep my muscle tone and strength in arms and legs, back and tummy area at as high a level as possible. We live on the 3rd floor and use the stairs at all times ( except with the load of weekly groceries). So glad we did 'the shift' in both our 60th year. You have highlighted some excellent pointers. Lovely to hear from you thanks for dropping by looks as if we are a lot alike, we moved 5 years ago from our house to our appartment here. We are on the 8th floor (with a lovely lake view)and take the stairs down when we go walking but the elevator on the way back 😂 It is very important to look after your health, we have bought a trailer so will be staying there as our cottage as well as here . I am with you on debt. I just turned fifty and am debt free including the mortgage. We haven't had car loans, student loans or credit card debt in twenty five years fee have always paid for home repairs and upgrades through savings Brent is a killer even before retirement. We only borrowed for cars, education and mortgage. Now we have none of that.
Great tips! Any suggestions for years of family pictures and how you edited them. I have many totes that i never look in and would like to deal with. Also when you decided to get fit did it include a diet as well as fitness goals. Could you share a bit of that. Thanks you have both given a lot to think about. New to channel so trying to catch up 🙂
The problem with retirement is the lack of weekends, holidays and overtime LOL I am the one who just might need something. I am getting better. Take care and stay safe.

I have 10 more shifts to work before I join my wife and retire completely. I have a garage full of books, 45s and LPs that I need to get rid of, so that is my first job, especially with us all been in lockdown in the UK. We have been lucky enough to be free of owning anybody anything (except the car) for over 10 years and as hiking is my hobby....Must admit, we are fair weather hikers and campers, so bring on the summer! I moved a lot of stuff I have not used near my garage door. I called a charity that picked up goods and they hauled it away. Some people will be helped from the donations and I did not have to haul it. Win Win situation.

Hey Tina and Norm! YES... We totally can imagine that retirement is the best job ever! We are looking forward to it. It's too funny that you guys watched the movie "The Minimalist".. we watched it a few days ago too, and it was such a great movie. We are already getting rid of extra things around the house and like you mentioned... it's important to declutter, especially if you're downsizing. Garage sales are perfect to get rid of extra things. We agree with Norm, the more clutter in the house, the more mental clutter you have to deal with too. Getting rid of debt is important as well, as it adds so much stress and anxiety if you have it. We are very fortunate to be debt free, besides monthly expenses like rent and utilities. That's a big reason we don't buy a house, instead we rent. So not so much debt is on our shoulders. We like what you said on getting in shape as health must always be number 1 in your life. Without that we have nothing. Congrats on your new camera and new couch! It's always nice when you can get a few new things you have been wanting. @@ThisIsOurRetirement I agree with that philosophy but one qualification I'd make is that it doesn't make sense to use invested capital to pay off debt if the interest rate on the debt is lower than the rate of return on the capital (taking taxes into consideration of course). Rates of returns these days, especially on the kinds of investments preferred by retirees, do tend to be lower than most interest rates but there can be exceptions.
You are a delightful couple, Just came across your channel & could not agree more about retirement, best job in the world. And like you, I wonder how I ever had the time to work I am so busy. I could not retire as early as you did, but urge others to plan and save so they can. Age creeps up on you and it is easier to travel the younger you are, but that hasn’t slowed me down ..yet. Now, if the Covid-19 would just leave us alone, .

My darling bride and I are 8 years and 9 months away (but who’s counting) and we’ve found your videos inspiring, especially because you are currently living the life we’re planning! We’ve been actively decluttering and getting our finances prepared to sell the house, rent in southern Ontario and winter in Portugal (we’re Portuguese) even the RV is something we’ve discussed! Your videos are fantastic because they prove our plans are realistic and doable! Maybe we’ll run into you sometime in Portugal or on an Ontario day trip! One thing that is impeding me from retirement is the lock-down. Not much point, I figure, when I can't travel, go out to many places locally or even meet a friend for coffee. Suggestion: How about a video on making the most of retirement during the lock-down?
Even though we can’t travel internationally it is amazing what you can do locally, we have just bought a trailer which will be permanently on a Lakeside Campground about two hours from our home.We will spend the summer with all new adventures locally to it an area we don’t know at all . Hi Norm and Tina. I agree completely with you. Declutter, get Debt free and exercise is very important for a retiree. That’s exactly what I’m preparing. And also thinking in selling our condo and put that money in investment funds that could give us dividends that can complement our pensions. Hi Thanks for watching going into retirement we viewed it as a new chapter in our lives . We are kept very busy doing RU-vid, stock photos and videos, walking , swimming (the pool is closed with Covid restrictions) coffee mornings etc. In the last 5 years we have travelled a lot and have wonderful memories, with Covid International travel is on hold, but we have bought a trailer to go for the summer we can go in May so looking forward to that. You start to take on a different feeling of doing things for you not an employer , as we live in an appartment when you go in the elevator you can say hi to people and it’s really nice. We’re 2 months from retiring. We turn 64 this year and have had enough of working. I totally agree with you about paying off debt. I live in the US. Health care is such a big issue here if you’re not old enough for Medicare. I love your videos

Hello you two! Great advice, we downsized last year and cleared clutter...but still could do with getting rid of more...so I'm ticking off number 1. When we downsized, we paid off our debt, ticking off number 2! As for number 3? That is a work in progress, could definitely do with losing some pounds! Since lockdown I'm afraid we have been comforting eating! Hoping we can turn this around as totally agree with you on this!!! Yes, definitely too cold to walk today...minus 7 here in Scotland and everywhere too icy to walk. We do not want to be going to our overrun hospitals with broken bones! I really like what you said. I decided to declutter after I retired and my goodness, it has become an anxiety to do so. It is really a lot of work and is a bummer to say the least. I have not been ruthless, but I'm trying. For me it is the paperwork that we are required to keep for financial reasons. I don't trust computers, and the reason is, my computer was hacked. So keeping financial info in digital form is not a good idea for me. Decluttering has become a nightmare and a negative, which has put a dent in my otherwise pleasant retirement. It has been a year now, and at first I was doing good, then laziness set in, and I stopped. But when I look around, all I see are piles of unfinished 'clearing out' projects that have now become overwhelming. Good advice, start early as possible clearing out, even if you don't plan on retiring. It's good, either way for your life. Ms. L. Churchill
Hi Les decluttering is not a race so don’t worry about it , we have been in our appartment for 5 years now and still have lots of decluttering to do we still have many Totes full of stuff we thought we needed LOL 😂😂when we sold the house and moved here . But main thing is enjoy each day and in our case happy hour is great 🍷🍺🙂
Scanning all the documents you want to keep and save it on a encrypted USB driver, keep it with your Will and make sure to write the encryption code in your will and other documents.

Is that the Canon EOS RP (Retired Photographer) model? ;-) Great channel. I've just handed in my retirement notice and we sold our house in February. Portugal sounds great. We love your channel because, so far we've done most of the things you're recommending. Put some of the money from the house sale into dividend yielding, aristocrat stocks. Now we're working on the physical fitness part. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for visiting our channel, yes we recently got the Canon RP with the kit lens and adapter for the EF lenses, as I have some L glass from an older Canon 5D MK2. We are really enjoying the camera, video modes are a bit limited but we prefer the colour science of Canon over Sony or Panasonic (We had a GH4). It sounds like you have taken retirement seriously and done all the right things, we are pleased it is working for you. The biggest weight loss we did was cutting out prepared food and sauces that contained sugar, there is a movie maybe on Netflix called the sugar movie, very interesting. My partner and I discovered your videos a few months ago and we have really found them very helpful and informative. Like many, Covid has put a tremendous financial strain on our potential livelihood in the US, which has forced us to consider selling our home and research retiring early in Spain. Your videos have helped guide us in making some of our own planning decisions for the move. We have spent months paying off debt and are now going through the process of donating many unused items to clear our home. You also inspired me to begin shooting my own content to document the process and hope to start a RU-vid channel about our experience this year. Thanks again and keep up the great work.

I hear the opposite. My dad retired at 61 and spent 24 years retired. What I heard from him and many other retirees I've known is "I don't know how I did all this before I retired". My dad always had projects on the go (building stuff, fixing things, gardening, beekeeping, hunting, etc). He never had a bored moment. My mom retired at 62 (she's younger than dad, so she worked about 10 years after he retired). She also keeps busy and enjoys travel, swimming with her friends, socializing, etc. She's now 82 and I don't think she's ever been bored in her 20 years (so far) of retirement. You really need to have outside interests. Life isn't just about doing your paid job. I have never made work my life. I guarantee I won't be bored once I retire.

TFW glad you are enjoying our channel, generally with food we eat three meals a day but we have smaller portions and lots of Vegetables. Try to not have cookies , chips and other snacks in the house as they put weight on . When things are on sale we stock up and that saves money 💰 as well . Welcome aboard! It’s great to have you on our channel, thanks for your kind words. We try and speak to ourselves so we understand the concepts simply. We also believe some financial planners over complicate retirement savings and over exaggerate the capital needed. Your suggestion is great, it has got us thinking how we can make a video about the impact of Covid, watch this space lol. Suggestion- It might be helpful to suggest how people should prepare financially for the possibly one partner has to go into costly long term care and the other is left in an apartment. John Ontario Canada
There are insurance policies available or if you already had critical care insurance while working some policies at retirement can be converted to long term stay insurance. Other than that it’s allocating assets to that use. Another great excuse for having a healthy diet and regular exercise.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement I’m not sure if we are on the same page. If you are 75 years old and one party needs to go into a nursing home because of Alzheimer’s, I believe there is no insurance to cover this. You would only get this paid by the government if you had no money in the bank or investments. Your current apartment rent & costs would be the ongoing responsibility of the other partner. If there is insurance to cover what you are saying, I would be interested in what you would pay for it. Do you have a policy that’s ongoing from your employer? Diet: I’m like you, I weigh 157 lbs but I’m 76. I had a non-repairable damaging heart attack 6 months ago. Prior to the attack, all my health markers were deemed ok before the attack and I was on no drugs. I was on a ‘heart healthy’ diet but as you get older as the cardiologist said, “things happen”.

Hi Guys, love this. I'm a CFP and have been is business for 30 plus years however I have learned so much from you both. Retirement is more then money and i think you guys are adding so much value to pre and retirees. Keep up the good work. If you don't mind me asking what part of ON did you relocate? I'm liv and son in lawing in St Johns Newfoundland and my daughter are living in Waterloo, ON. They just had their first child our first GC so we will see what happens :) KB
