Neat to see you connect with the Smart folks...would be great to see a collab with you & Ron Paulk. Always good to shake things up & bring new systems into the shop to get re-inspired!
Jon, I agree those R7 casters are great. I have a set that I put on my new 4x8 out feed/assembly table. Concerning the issue of lifting a heavy bench, my table is built using; 2 sheets 3/4 4x8 particleboard, 12 - 2x4 8ft, 3 sheets 3/4 4x8 maple plywood (for cabinets and drawers) …total weight about 500 lbs. I don’t store anything heavy in it, so maybe another 100 lbs. The amount it needs to be lifted is minimal and I find if I lock my arms and tilt back it’s sufficient. This will be different for everyone depending on height of the table vs your height. The bench looks good but I don’t think even having that vise would make me want to cut dovetails. Thanks for another good video.
Thanks Tom, I agree… I think this bench weighs maybe 200 pounds… And it’s no problem to lift. Again, a lot will depend on the height of the bench and the person. I think I agree about cutting dovetails too 😂
Good Morning everyone, You can check out the R7 Castors that I used on my bench or the more heavy duty R8 Castors at this link. a2492d-4d.myshopify.com/?ta_aff=9KCXDHJ284 Thanks for watching and have a great Sunday, Jon
These are really nice. I'm glad the castor wheels are available in both 500-pound per set capacity and 800-pound. I would definitely need the 800-pound capacity wheels, and then I will only need to lift 400 pounds to activate each end.
Hello Jon,can you please advise me as to why you applied the rubber spacers under each leg. The web site for the wheels just attaches the wheels with no spacer...Thank you
Those are really cool, Jon~! I have a Sjobergs bench as well with flip down casters from Rockler. They work fine for when I move my bench, but they go down one corner at a time. I think it might be time to replace them with some R7s/R8s. Thanks for sharing this~!
As a 58yo who has screwed up his back, I’m probably over cautious. That’s why I made my own trusty servant in my lab. Igor. He also mixes good bloody Mary’s.
To those bemoaning having to lift the bench to activate these casters, keep this in mind: Those who think "Can't" don't, while those who think "Can" do. Every problem has a solution 😊
Casters look good, Jon. Never seen those before. Price looks reasonable too. Bench looks good too but not sure why there are so many dogs ... you can only use two at a time, right? 🙂
Really like the casters, first time seeing them. Would you mind giving the dimension or the bench? (Primarily, the top) I have a large salvaged maple workbench top that I need to cut down, but can’t decide on the correct size for a similar bench. Thanks
Cool thanks, sure the top measures 56 x 26 and that includes the 5 inch extension Jeff added… These measurements don’t include the vices… add three more inches to include them
