Oh hell yeah. My grandfather is originally from S Exeter street in little Italy. He also lived in Patterson park back in the 60s. He has a bunch of old neighborhood photos from the mid 40s all the way up until the mid 60s until he moved to Harford County. You can tell people took pride in their neighborhoods back then.

Too bad....no more crabs and National beer on your back porch in the summer. The produce cart and the Good Humor man came thru in your back alley in early seventies. Patterson Park was a beautiful place to have a picnic. And you could walk along Eastern Avenue from Eastpoint all the way to Highlandtown. (Even if you were a kid.) Well, you can't bring back the past, but WHY can't we??

I see there’s a lot of comments, where people are mentioning that the city was so violent. In context, in 1978 there were three times as many residents in the city in the 1970’s as there are current day. Close to 1 million residents in 1978, Baltimore recorded 197 homicides. 2011 Baltimore city Baltimore city population was close to 600,000. There were 196 recorded homicides. Since the early 2010’s until current day Baltimore city has routinely recorded 300 + murders per year. The population is almost less than half it was in 1978. I was 8 years old in 1978, I didn’t understand the benign neglect that was happening around me. Residents were nicer to one another, there wasn’t as much angst despite the conditions. Families were objectively far poorer with far fewer opportunities than exits today. The spirit of the residents, the different communities ~ watching these videos is like time traveling. Places, buildings, landmarks, some still existing, others long since forgotten. Baltimore Ole Baltimore ain’t it hard just to live! Thank you ! Mayor Schaffer! Oprah! Residents had respect for Police. Wow. Metro Plaza before it was open! I can remember some of these stories ! Incredible upload.

Not only do you point out a lot of important contextual facts, but people fail to realize that the rest of the country has experienced many of the same issues. Of course, there are a lot of ignorant folks who, today, claim that they "can't go into the city." I always wonder why they can't. There's no law preventing them, and there are no warning signs around the city limits telling suburban white people to 'stay out.' So, wtf are these people talking about?
