8:25 Finding out that your purchased telecommunications equipment/services have "become obsolete" (flashes the sentence, "Why AT&T should be your LONG DISTANCE company.", LOL)
Very different landscape back then. We only had a few shows to watch, with networks competing for viewers during the prime time slots so they had to be really good quality and special. This "bumper" promo really displays that. Hit all my nostalgia feels.
In the NBC-TV promotional commercial, Come Home to the Best, Sherman Hemsley and Marla Gibbs, stars of The Jeffersons, are included, as are Betty White, Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, Michael Landon, ALF, Staci Keanan, Bill Cosby, Phylicia Ayers-Allen, Michael J. Fox, Johnny Carson and other NBC-TV stars from 1988.
If someone said back then that one day we’d watch these commercials on our phone they’d think you were a moron, the idea of a phone being anything other than a phone would seem crazy. It would be like saying you made a phone call on a lawnmower
People forget the impact Family Ties had on creating the conservative ethos through Alex, and how Nick was an absurdist’s reaction that countered beautifully for a short time on television.
If a massive aids pandemic was "the good days" I don't know what to tell ya I see this same comment every time from different people and we as humans spend way too much time dwelling on the past than enjoying today. We can still do everything we loved in the past today and more
3:03 That NBC promo had a lot of big names. Jackee Harry must've been at the peak of her popularity then, she was prominently featured (& was also in the promo for a TV movie at 6:05). Among the many others were John-ny Carson, Jay Leno, Michael J Fox, Michael Landon, Sherman Helmsley, Mr. & Mrs. "Bill Cosby", etc. I could've done without ALF, though. ;)
Of course, those brands have been around a long time--like a lot of other well known products, or things--but when it comes to buying/owning cars, I don't give a damn about "status symbols"--too much $$ involved. Chasing the latest "status symbols", in general, is lame--just be yourself, and in terms of material possessions just get what works for you.
Not-so-smart aleck this is true, I used to tell people “ enjoy material things for yourself, but don’t define yourself by them or flaunt them to others” . Material things are a blessing for sure, but I would rather someone remember and respect me for trying to be a great person than what I have. But, yes I do see a lot of luxury cars on the streets and SOME people do deserve them and work hard for them...
bretthehitman The worst of the bunch is the self-promoted NBC commercial. Who really cares about these stars? It’s hard to believe that Jackee Harry was one of the biggest stars of the network at one time.
@@taureanmay7480 - I was wrong. I saw him in a clip where he said they weren't related but the clip didn't say he was joking. My bad. I was young and naive back then. Lol
