I’m so grateful for this channel. It’s been a real joy to watch this show again. It was one of my favorites when I was a kid and it still is. And Jeremy’s commentary is great too.
They missed the obvious joke when Cindy said she'd be happy to donate any organ she wasn't using. You figure Connie would've said, "Yeah, like your brain!"
The show premiered on USA on Sept. 17, 1990, less than two months after its run ended on ABC. This episode, with its holiday theme and focus on the family, makes my top ten list.
I guarantee we were watching USA at the same time back then. That block of programming with JTTOU and My Two Dads was very important viewing for me, wringing out all the BS of the the school day and letting me escape for a while. My mom hated this show, calling it either "Eight is Enough" when she knew perfectly well the real name, or simply "That show with those whorey girls". To her credit though, she was fine with me watching it. I wrote Heather Langenkamp a letter in '91 and she sent back an autographed photo, but its current location sadly is lost to history. Marie is still my favorite character and I'm looking forward to quite a few of her episodes coming up. I'm liking your commentary and have already learned a few "fun facts" I didn't know before.
I'm glad you are enjoying the commentary. I am enjoying doing it! And yes, I definitely remember watching My Two Dads as well! Seeing Staci Keanan on Step by Step was a nice surprise!
@@RetroFat Most definitely. If JTTOU had been given a 4th season I'm betting Step by Step wouldn't have ever been a thing. Of course JTTOU is the superior sitcom, but Staci Keanan is awesome in everything she does. She's the guest on 4 episodes of Christine Lakin's podcast "Worst Ever" and if you haven't I highly recommend listening to those.
Yes, Bill was on Growing Pains too. He also did a lot of John Hughes' films as well, plus he played a role in Naked Gun 3 that was originally offered to my cousin, who couldn't do it because of the shoot being during a religious holiday. And my cousin was the composer of the NG films.
I love the way how marie (heather langenkamp)eats her slice of pepperoni pizza.while listening to her dad and the mechanic are discussing to each other back and forth about graham's car.
+Jeremy Logsdon Yes,exactly!that's why i even mentioned that somewhat unnoticeable but comically touching moment in this episode.furthering my proof of ms.langenkamp as an sitcom actress.
@@RetroFat You can't comment on everything, of course. How about the moment where Dwayne kissed the Coach because he was pretending to be the Coach and Coach was pretending to be Elizabeth and Dwayne was coming home from work?
+sha11235 It is,because you don't see physically attractive actresses casually eating food often on television shows.especially when it's fatty foods such as the pizza marie is eating.
Great christmas episode.. but could you imagine a halloween one if we had gotten one.. I feel like it would have been epic with all the connections with nightmare on elm street
It would be cool if u could do a live watch party hehe.. maybe do a real TGIF .. id love to see comments while watching cuz I do feel our fellow crowd here has a lot to bring. Wishful thinking. Thank you for these
I have actually thought about that. We're developing a little community here, and I think it might be fun to have a few group viewings with group reaction. I just need to figure out the logistics, and I think we could do it via Zoom pretty easily.
I'm definitely all for this proposal, arranging fans from various and different places and backgrounds, and bringing us together to talk and reveal our love and admiration for this sitcom, and it's quite talented cast.
"Peace on you" is going in the rotation. I'm surprised I didn't remember that one along with vacuuming the vegetables..... They named Bill Erwin's character Ralphie?! 🤣
I need to get out my VHS of this episode from USA, but I think they cut the entire "auto shop boys fixed the car" scene. Without that, the whole episode had a different tone.
I'm trying to figure out the money here. Graham can afford a $500 organ, but the transmission will cost around that much, so he decides to sell the car for an undisclosed sum. But his kids arrange to have it fixed before it's sold, so he can keep the organ without selling the car, which Father Hargis doesn't buy after all. So he's even, except for the bonus given to him by Duane. Did he ever pay Duane back? The only reason he gave Graham that money was to fix the car, and Graham hates accepting charity on a good day.
Two thoughts: 1. Would Santa have knocked on the door like Dwayne did, which is why they think it's Santa there? 2. Why wouldn't Santa have time for that sex lecture? He can traverse the Earth in a night and he controls that.
I don't think Graham meant that as an insult. It did come off a little gruff, but I think he just meant that he wouldn't have almost given away the surprise about the organ if Elizabeth hadn't mentioned the word in a different context. More like he was mad at the English language for containing homophones, and directed at himself for almost giving it away (especially as an English teacher), but sort of passive-aggressively blaming his wife for his own confusion because that's just what sitcoms do. There's also a slight chance that I'm way overthinking this.
Jeremy, in your opinion, how did the organ get to the house if Gram took it back for money to fix the transmission? The girls got transmission fixed so, Gram had the money to get transmission fixed. Doesn't show anyone going back for organ. Sorry did I miss something? Thoughts?
