Thank you for sharing this show. I, too, watched it as a kid. Writers on the whole are very bad with continuity. They very rarely stick the same bit in more than one show. Thus is why you don’t see the Dinner test again. Lastly, St. Augustine’s has several hundred students. There’s more than one PE teacher and Lubbock is new. He wouldn’t know every student in every grade.
I liked both of Marie's songs in this episode. The one she plays in her daydream, "Dominique", was written and performed originally by a Belgian nun about St. Dominic, who founded the Dominican Order. "You're No Good" was performed by a lot of different singers, I think the best known version was by Linda Ronstadt. Even Van Halen covered it on their second album, but they did much more of a rock version. I think all of the songs in this were recorded in a studio rather than sung live, and it shows in the improved quality, compared to the "Dream Girls" episode, which were sung live (except the encore). Also, if this show would have lasted a few more seasons, Sherry totally should have joined the group. She would have masterminded their career.
It's funny, but there's way too many family sitcom tropes in this one. Learning a lesson, repeated references, the scene on the couch at the end. It's almost like a '70s show. None of the other episodes really did this. Though I did like what Elizabeth said to Wendy at the end. That carries through.
St. Augustine's team name is the Hippos. I have to 'confess' - that's a nice touch. And hey, the marching band sounds like a 300-member Big Ten monster band. Not bad for a small Catholic high school.
I found it interesting that Russell (Michael Stoyonav's character) mentions he came because his friends needed a driver without a record given that by the time "Blossom" aired, Stoyonav's character of Tony Russo was struggling with substance abuse.
I don't think Wendy told Cindy to sing loud to drown out the sound of the hammering, it was to make the hammering sound like the beat to the song, to make it less obvious.
My favorite part was when Connie had to lower the microphone so much to speak. She looked so small, and I think that helped people realize how she didn't intend any harm. Sid Haig was pretty great too.
Because they had to truncate and re-edit some of the opening credits, they had to do the same to the theme song. It sounds to me like the guitar part is much louder in the mix (at the very end, other episodes the guitar is barely noticeable to me).
Jeremy, thank you for creating this channel! Just the Ten of Us was one of my favorite TV Shows when I was a kid. I never understood why it was canceled, and I never liked any of the other TGIF shows better. A few months ago something made me think of the show, and I went on the hunt to find it on any streaming platform. As we know, it wasn't found. But to my delight I found your You Tube Channel! It has been such a nostalgic trip to rewatch these shows I haven't seen since they aired over 30 years ago. As an adult, I find them even more entertaining because I actually understand all of the jokes and innuendos. I agree that it was a show ahead of its time. What a fantastic cast with amazing performances, and the writing was brilliant. I was so excited to see your Zoom calls with the cast and crew. Seriously, I've enjoyed this channel so much.
Yea, I am going to pass on this series. I was glad I found it, but I am not going to watch a sitcom where some dude pauses in the middle of episodes just to tell us what we are watching. Too bad.
I never connected the phone lines not working with Father Hargis not listening till now. What an odd and clever way to use a throwaway comment to foreshadow a greater revelation.
