In this reaction video series, I'm watching my way through the classic late 80s sitcom Just the Ten of Us. This is the 13th episode of the 3rd season, Comedy Tonight.

I'm a big fan of Just the Ten of Us, I remember watching this when it aired. And Brooke Theiss was my favorite. I only have the fuzzy syndicated copies. My biggest wish is just to have pristine copies that I can buy somewhere. My absolute favorite comedy.

Molly Peoples is the character's name. That was Suzanne Goddard, who appeared as Molly in the two part St. Augie's Blues. She also appeared in Risky Business and Simple Gifts, playing other characters. And the cop there is the same recurring cop who appears in several episodes, even playing the Detective in Dangerous Liaison.

A very fun episode. I mean, not much plot, so I am glad they threw in the Janitor Bob stuff! Glad the full ABC version gets us the full story at the end.
@sha11235

Well, the plot is them putting on this show to raise money for the Athletic Dept. and a subplot is Coach getting nervous about his stand up act.
@sha11235
@sha11235 2 года назад
To answer your opening comments, yes, I think Bill got a writing credit due to the stuff the Coach does in the stand up act is Bill's own material. I have seen most of it performed elsewhere, but it is still funny to watch. And this all takes place at Danny's due to it being a benefit for St. Augie's. Also, this was the first episode to air in 1990, but since it aired right at the start of the new year, it was probably filmed in Dec. 1989. Maybe we can find out the shooting dates at some point.

Yes, another alternate opening. This one was cute, with the family looking out at what is going on onstage and thinking, "What the hell????" Let's not forget there will be another alternate one with the second part of Snow Job, as you saw last week.

You might want to check the date this episode aired. I remember at the end of this episode, after the credits, the Lubbock Babes were looking at the camera, talking directly to the audience. They said "thank you for watching, and we will see you next year". Cindy, in her ditzy way, says "Oh no, you mean we have to wait a whole year to see them again?" And the rest of the girls have to explain that next week will be a new year. Someone might want to see if they can track down this after-episode bit.

They must've just taped this episode before XMAS break and hiatus and it aired in January, then did the TGIF bumper before wrapping.

I remember that; it was one of those “vanity plates” at the end that tells you who produced the show, if I remember correctly. I think it may have been after Growing Pains and some other shows too.
@sha11235
@sha11235 2 года назад
This is mentioned on FB when I asked it. This is a shot from Growing Pains during a dream sequence. It is not Bill doing the screaming nor him falling off the roof. It was Mike Sullivan who did the screaming.
@sha11235
@sha11235 2 года назад
Here is the info from Steve Marshall about this shot: "Here's the story behind this logo. We had done a fantasy sequence on Growing Pains involving Ben in a 'war movie' setting. He was on a walkie talkie saying they were down to six men. At that moment, a guy is shot and falls off the roof of an old church behind him. He says into the walkie, "Make that five men". We had another camera closer in on the stunt man's dive and decided to use that footage for our logo. As I recall, the scream was mine".

I LOVE this episode. Wasn’t it nominated or win an award? Their version of the Beatles This Boy is so much better than the original! I didn’t even know it was a Beatles song until about a year ago and I heard it play at a bar. I started singing along but as the Lubbock Babes version. My friends thought I was nuts 🤣🤣🤣. I agree, Bill Kirchenbauer’s comic timing and delivery is on point. Frank Bonner was one of my favorite TV actors. Also love Sid Haig. RIP. They will be missed. Holy crap. 30 years ago! I want my childhood back😭🤣. Sr. Ethel will steal the scene every time she pops up. 🤣

Would love to see Heidi and Matt and meet more people involved behind the scenes. I’m sure Brooke would join you when she can! From what was said on that special reunion, it would always be the opening scene of the second Act that would be cut. Yes, I don't recall it either, just them taking bows.
@herbermr
@herbermr 2 года назад
That seems especially true in season three. They cut a lot less from this season compared to the previous two. My guess is about two minutes cut from seasons 1 and 2, but only about 30 seconds from season 3. My guess is with the TGIF bumpers the episodes were made shorter to start with.

I just noticed Elizabeth mentioned the pig nose prop, which Coach didn't use but Bill has used in his stand up. That line might've been cut out too, which might be why I didn't notice it before. And as for Bill's stand up here, loved the family laughing at the act and we see it at times (at one point Elizabeth pulls up Marie's top). Too bad he didn't do the Titanic impression, which is so much better than that Oscar winning film.
