Retro Halftone Effects in Photoshop!

In this tutorial, I’ll run through the setup I use to create halftone effects in Photoshop. Great for posters, apparel, stickers, or just making cool retro-lookin stuff! This approach will bypass the halftone filters and create the effect from scratch, with the added benefit of being live and adjustable. In the second half of the video, we’ll take a look at some custom settings to bring additional color or transparency into the image. Thanks for watching!

i've been working on a netflix series for the past 8 months, and it features a whooooooole bunch of 1970's newspapers, like a crazy amount. and i've been so happy with my halftone setup and now you come and destroy it all by doing it so much better. THANKS ALOT. ;)

I've seen so many halftone tutorials, and this is still by FAR the best one. I even took this one step further and created my own halftone effects (lines, crosses, etc) using the dot texture as a reference. Thank you for the knowledge you provide!

I love how everything you make is easily editable. Most actions/tutorials aren't that way, but you make it so simple to just drag in a new image below these editable adjustment layers. Amazing.

I come in to these tutorials expecting to learn a cool effect, which I do, but then along the way there's just so much that I have to pause and go back to process all the amazing extra tips along the way. And I've been using Photoshop for nearly 20 years! Just smart, intuitive use of the tools in a way I hadn't thought of before. It's no surprise this video has no dislikes! Amazing

I love love love the procedural way you create effects. It's so satisfying to see a system be created that can be tweaked and adjusted later. Also after watching all your videos I've developed a new love for the gradient map tool. It's really taking a lot of my designs to new heights. I feel like such a dummy for having such an amazing tool under my nose all these years, and not utilizing it as much as I should have

I'm using Creative Suite for more than 10 years now. I'v watch an absurd amount of tutorials over the years. The quality of your production put you amoung my personnal "Top 3 RU-vid Channels for Photoshop Tutorials". You are actually gaining more than 1,5K subs per day. You should easily pass the 100K sub by June. If I was a gambler, I would say that you will hit the 300K mark before the end of this year. And it would be well deserved.

It's just great... I follow Piximperfect and PTC for most of my photoshop learning. I have learnt a lot from them. Now I found yours, thanks to the RU-vid algorithm...I have never found this detailed set of instructions regarding halftones in a photoshop tutorial. Thank You. throughout my use of photoshop it's been very well downhill, i loved it when i started it out and i learnt it quickly. then my learning curve died down because i couldnt find a tutorial well explained enough or well, straight to the point without big breaks or cuts. this continued for like a year til 2 days ago. saw your after effects tutorial, expecting really heavy stuff and difficult to follow but it was the opposite, i never touched after effects deeply before that tutorial and now i am experimenting on it on my own. then i just kept watching your content and are step by step learning my favourite ones in photoshop. thanks to you my work can thrive and well make my own stuff! this is super refreshing :D thank you.

This is, perhaps, the most spectacular design/photoshop tutorial i've ever seen. I've been using PS since it was first released, but there are still features you show that i either have never used or just haven't used much/in years-so i'm going to save this and refer to it *slower* but gdamn-i've always wanted to do retro halftones with this type of nimbleness.
