When I first started racing Mtb in the eighties I bought a lava dome ,,, yellow with random splashed colors ,,, it was a fantastic cross country bike and also was very good on the downhills for a rigid bike , the geometry was great , stable predictable ,,, I always dreamed of an Eplosif Xt but that was for the wealthy guys n gals lol … great to see an old Kona again thanks .
Oh wow, I know that paint job!!! Was that a 90 or maybe 89? I had a Cinder Cone of the same year, it was a base colour of white with loads of different colours splattered. Now that's I bike a regret selling!
@@TheRetroBiker hi , yes was 89 , bought it from leisure lakes bury , it was my first proper mtb , I was an ex moto crosser so that bike took me into downhill racing , eventually got quite good and raced all over uk and Europe , got GT zaskar with trick marzocchis ( no full sus them days ! Proper mtb downhilling ) 4 of my most enjoyable years ,, great memories .
Really? Someone said the same about Kona bikes in Australia being expensive, I wonder why they are cheap over here 🤔 This was cheap but still, even with a good clean and some decent pictures it would be worth about £150 at the most over here.
I'm with you there, to get anything my size (19" or bigger) normally means the frame geometry looks awful, like a huge metal gate, with Kona geometry though even the bigger sizes look great. Also they ride really well, I can use an 18" frame with the post up high and it fits, must have a long top tube 🤔
Great find! Where do you re sell your bikes? Many a time a lose seat post clamp/dirty seat post squeaks like a worn bottom bracket! Really annoying but an easy fix!👍
I generally sell them to a friend who splits them and sells the parts on eBay, some times I'll sell them complete through Facebook or eBay if they are too nice to break. The bottom bracket has play in it so I'd guess that's the source of the bloody squeak 😅
Oh man Id love to keep them all, every one I get takes me back to being a teenager, paging through the latest MBUK looking at bikes or in the local bikes shop longing after bikes a paper round couldn't really fund. Space limits me to only a few keepers though sadly.
