With the first Bronco in 25 years due in Spring 2021, we're taking a look back in time at where the iconic name and model began. We got a hold of a 1987 Ford Bronco II with just 62,000 miles on it, courtesy of Platinum Preowned in Mechanicsburg, PA (visit CreditPa.com!) which took the vehicle on trade a few weeks ago. Does the 'original' Bronco stack up? You be the judge!

This was a painful watch. The D on the shifter is overdrive, it's a 5 speed not a 4. It shows you've never driven an old quality vehicle. Oh and the rear passenger enter through the passenger side.

Extremely painful. I own one, it's one of my favorite cars, never been in one when I found it and took me 1 minute to discover what the passenger seat did. Horsepower rating is wrong, it's a 4 speed with overdrive, that specific one has a body lift not just bigger tires. Don't understand how someone with no knowledge of cars has a channel reviewing them.

You enter the rear seats from the passenger side. This is a basic model. The XLT’s has cruse control, ac, power windows , shame it doesn’t have the factory stereo cassette deck. Wheels are over sized and after market. Some variants came with spare tire rack, opening side windows, on the fly four wheel drive, center console, fixed rear window with defogger, wiper and cleaning fluid tank. Sunroof and Door vent windows. Yes the engine was under powered at 144 hp stock. Stock tires were 115, 15’s . Most savvy owner’s upped them to 235, 15’s to give a more stable ride. The stock tires and short wheel base along with power steering made the steering response very whippy. The larger tires along with a steering stabilizer countered this design flaw.

I like the retro look more. Also like that I can pick one of those Bronco II's up for about 5-6K in fantastic condition. Drop about 3.5K into it (engine swap and suspension) and have an EXTREMELY capable off road vehicle. Instead of starting at 40K for the new Bronco BASE which is a road car... or 60K+ for their off road alternate.

I've had many cars from the 60s 70s and 80s and one thing I miss about them is the simplicity. Normally if something went wrong you could fix it right there on the side of the road and drive the car home. Now you have to call a tow truck and have the dealer hook up a computer with proprietary software.

@@overdrive_reviews I'm not trying to rag on the video, but I was thrown off by how the review went. Unfortunately you didn't have a running one and that one specifically was a very low option bronco 2. I think it would be helpful if you did more research and talk about more specifically the history of the car. Like why did ford create the bronco 2 (to compete with a specific jeep vehicle). Why was the size offered? Oil embargo in the 70s most people didn't want a big v8, gas guzzling, engine of the full size. The video was very well put together. But still has some potential to achieve. Keep at it

89 Bronco2 here. Yep. The 2.9l engine is gutless but a CAI and upper to lower intake port match does help. Mine has been a shelfed project since 2014. I'm working on it more now since my daily driver transmission is due to go out any time at a $4000 to $6000 replacement cost. New vehicles just don't last like the old ones. Dude… I can drive that truck… and I’m a girl! You’re talking about stalling the vehicle because you wouldn’t be able to shift it? My Dad taught me to shift his Chevy Custom when I was in kindergarten! But then our generation weren’t a bunch of snowflakes! I learned how to drive on a manual transmission. We didn’t need Bluetooth! We didn’t need Apple/Android car play! We kept our eyes on the road, listened to the RPM’s and drove the car!!! All we needed was a full tank of gas and a working cassette deck! We didn’t even need an A.C. We drove with the windows down! Seriously dude… Show some respect for an American classic! You’ve got a lot to learn.

I own and drive a 1987 Ford Bronco 2. My mechanic says it will out live me, and it will. You complain a lot but you don't know the facts. The windows aren't automatic, which is great because they dont break down and need an expensive repair. Its basic and simple. New cars are so full of gadgets and useless crap that breaks. Mine is a standard transmission, but my dad always said if you can't drive stick, you don't know how to drive. He was right. My Bronco has never rolled over because I don't drive like a millennial. Driving is supposed to be enjoyable, and driving a Bronco is fun. Ive had so many people tell me they love my truck, even more people offer to buy it. I find notes on my windshield with thier phone number begging me to sell it. I will never sell it. It will be handed down to my son. My grandson gets the biggest kick when he goes out with me and people yell Nice Truck at us. You need fun buttons on your steering wheel? You don't like red? How can you review a classic vehicle like that? We weren't dumb back in the 80s. We knew how to service our vehicles and when to service them without guages for every little thing. You shouldn't be reviewing things you know nothing about, like how Ford designed engines that year, why theyre special, how they have a short wheel base making any turn easy, how they zip through traffic and never dog down. Two people have made fun of my old truck, then wound up eating crow because they're new vehicles broke down and they needed to borrow, my old truck. You want to tear up a vehicle in your reviews, try a Vega. You won't find one of those on the road today.

This wasn’t a full on review dude, slow your roll. And the 2/3 door Explorer was not a compact SUV it was a midsize and larger than the Bronco. I didn’t just make that up.

@@overdrive_reviews i would still call the 1st gen 2dr explorer a compact because it was nearly identical in size to the bronco 2

Nice review of a paperweight. Is this satire? It's like reviewing a movie based on the trailer.

ford really missed good options on the bronco 2 like why no factory 4.0 also a removable back would be sick like the fullsize broncos

This guy instead of reviewing the Bronco he's more like complaining about everything. What was he expecting?? 2020 technology in a 80s truck?

Poor guy is too used to modern technology. I miss the simple design and functionality of the older vehicles. All these new safety features has taken away from people knowing how to check fluids and air pressure on a regular basis. When was the last time you saw someone at the gas station under the hood checking the fluids? I had one that had all blue interior and one red like that one. Was very happy with it. I think these designs had more masculinity than the new feminine looking vehicles.

There is so much misinformation in this. I think he may be confusing the bronco 2 with the rollovers of the early explorer issue or even the jeep. Also, this was the third generation of bronco. He makes it sound like the bronco 2 was the beginning of the bronco. I wonder what he would say about the 66 bronco, now that was sparse!

Ugh, is this how millennials who have never been around old cars and dirt think? Like holy shit these are not bad cars. See of us don't need a damn computer on wheels to enjoy a daily driving experience. My first car when I was 15 was a 1971 Ford Ranchero with a built 5.0 engine. Mind you I graduated highschool in 2016. I still drive old shitboxes today because I enjoy not having all the technology. Hell, now I have a 1983 Foxbody Mustang, 1987 Mazda RX7, a 1990 Bronco II, and as a daily driver now I have a big turbo 2019 mustang Ecoboost. And honestly even though it's fast and balanced I prefer the old foxbody with literally nothing in it over the new mustang. Holy shit people get out of your house and do something other than complain about old cars, drive one and you'll understand what we feel.
