Joining the Retro Rifle bandwagon again with a late 80's/early 90's setup. The CAR A2 from Rock River Arms provided a great deal of quality for the price point.
I raised my right hand for the first time on 21 Aug 1991 and hung up my uniform on 04 July 2020. I collected retro style guns I enjoyed during my tenure. Also, collected popular weapons prior to my time.
@@triplefshooting Probably my favorite is the M16A1 with the birdcage flashider and forward assist. Was iconic to me around middle school when I’d look up machine guns in the encyclopedia. Then went on to use one in Army basic, infantry school, and very beginning of my career. The A2 was around in limited numbers. When I went to a military high school, we drilled with demilled 03-A3s. I much prefer the A4 stock, lol. The “coolest” one is the XM177E2. This is the last one I’m looking for. Colt Resissue is an over priced joke. I didn’t care for the Brownell’s line only because of the NDS on the M16’s carry handle under the rear sight. FN Military series are basically the real deal and covers my M16A3/4 and unsuppressed M4 I started using ~’97. The last can I used abroad was a Surefire FA556-212. Dang that carbon lock, lol. Still, that wasn’t as cool as the XM177E2 with FA compatibility. Im liking the PSA H&R line so far w my gray M16A1 slick side (just as Eugene Stoner approved) and black w the forward assist. The history behind the weapons of WWII and the industrial machine to make top quality weapons is unfathomable in today’s society. Nothing like a wood and steel rifle/carbine and the smell of a nice walnut stock. Many in that generation referred to these weapons as a weapon made by a man, for a man, to K.. a man.
Excellent work on that rifle. It's interesting as I used a Carry handle AR in the USMC 2002, ever since I have been out, that's all I have in my collection. Now it's considered Retro which I think is super cool, although it does make me feel old. I subscribed as you have an amazing channel and the information delivery is Top Notch. Thanks
I was issued one of those enhanced LBEs. Sold it off at a garage sale along with a metric ton of other "retro" stuff everybody wants now (stupid, I know).
Hi there. I'm a Pinoy. I love your videos on RU-vid channel especially this one, to the fact is ill have one rifle like that but not similar in painting, i apply the Multicamouflage were in my rifle baby armalite.. God bless you always
I have several all original A1’s in my collection. Yeah they cost a pretty penny back in the day. I’ve had these weapons 40 years now. Yes I have also used them in a sworn official capacity starting out in 1980, spanning a career that in one uniform or another that spanned over 30 years , many of those in what is now called something totally different than what we were called as so called "paid professionals ". The 177E2 was heavily used back then and then the Car15A1 and A2 variants. The biggest change that helped all 10.3" to 11.5" guns was the advent of 1/7 twist rate and 62gr through 68gr and then stepping up to 75gr and 77gr. The newish Mark18 is about the epitome of what this AR platform can do. The newest M4 true 14.5" gun is by far the best of the best for me but the M16A2 is hard to beat. It just plain smoked bad actors without the need to double tap.
Thanks. I have a hard time getting past the looks and lightweight feel of the a1 and a2 receivers. It's like addiction once you get going. Now I want a HEAT rifle real bad thanks to admin lol
I have put together quite a few retro style ARs of all iterations. I have always loved the carry handles models That is a nice A2 and very close the BHD era. I still have an ongoing Blood Diamond ish project that uses an older Rock River lower with a flat top Colt upper.
Nice. Watching shotshow this year, it looks like palmetto is literally just going to make one complete. Theyre even looking into making an LSW. My wallet is all sweaty just thinking about it
I got my RR LAR 15 at a police shootout training back in early 2000 put on by ex SEAL/Delta guys. Great training AND RR gave us the option of purchasing a flat top LAR with an add on rear sight yet a fixed post front for the price of just 300 bones. We could only get one or it would have been a shootout getting more. Anyway, I still have it and the quality is amazing basic, but super tight-no gaps wobble or silly stuff. I never had any firing issues in all these years. I keep it pretty stock with just a red dot added and a free float hand guard. It is seriously accurate even with a pretty nice single stage trigger. It just works and is a battering ram that hits anything you shoot at. I like my RR much better than my issued Colt LE rifle. The Colt was a good rifle but not near as tight as the RR or as accurate. I have tested weapons and ammo for the companies in arctic conditions in AK and was an armorer for many years as well as an instructor. One of my jobs was to precheck rifles/pistols before they went back to range staff for maintenance or turn in- some ugly stories there. Really good review of a mostly overlooked and underrated rife.
Much appreciated. When I was younger, my local gun store always made it sound like RR was the only way to go. Now that there are so many different brands of AR, I rarely hear anything or see RR rifles on the shelf. I was a bit hesitant at first with the purchase, but am extremely glad that I did. Thanks for the info!
M81 woodland, lbv88e, fixed carry handle. How ive been training for the past 7 years. I use a RRA 20" Hbar. Its funny...the rest of the guys at our private range used to poke fun about my rifle, and gear. Now its all the rage lol. I also am a collector of gear from 1972 to about 2005. Ive literally had to turn the spare room into a huge storage space just for all the alice gear, lbv88's , alice rucks, poncho's, woobies, sleeping bags, bayonets, uniforms, you name it ive probably got it. I grew up with Alice, and m81. Its what I know, its what I like. To be honest my entire " load out " is an exact copy of the soldiers in the movie clear and present danger. Right down to the mini maglite with red lense. I use an m7 bayonet, um84 holster, correct iifs buttpack for the lbv88. The gear is still good quality gear, m81 is perfect for my area. I use a medium alice ruck with usgi m81 pack cover. I could go on and on. Just love seeing young folks getting into the stuff I grew up with. Seeing people finally realizing all you need is a basic set up, basic gear, and to practice. You dont need all that multicam garbage with a $10,000 optic, all kinds of NVGs, helmets etc.
Nice. I think finding a middle ground between super fancy kit and good training with the basics is the best way to go for most people. That said it's hard not to like the older stuff for its simplicity. Loses a lot of weight when you don't have a bunch of crap on the gun too
@@triplefshooting plus the older kit has sustaining ability. Between the IIFS buttpack, and the medium Alice pack you could stay out for days and days. Something a lot of folks forget about. There isn't going to be instant re supply, or this great big bureaucracy behind you. Wait im starting to ramble lol.
Hello I appreciate your enthusiasm don't fret over the hight it's nothing bad and it's appropriate with that recoil and refactor I hope you enjoy the recoil don't worry about it being a 17 it's a very special projectile very nice wind factor on cases are sturdier that many others primers have a bit of a greater life span for reloading Try out the grbb46 Lar it's a nice one with some particular extras you will notice a bolt detach on the charger it's for using an old ww2 charger fitting
As other's have stated: nice rifle! (I'm partial to M81 since that was my camo when I was in) & so painted my carbine similarly. Re: hight over bore-- it's really not an issue as long as you train enough to know where your holds are. If you're ever trying to shoot a bad guy who's holding a loved one hostage, or if your coming up against an enemy with chest armor, then you're really gonna want to know (with confidence) just where your rounds are impacting. Subbed
Thanks for the sub and the info! I agree that the height can be pretty easily worked around. I tend to shoot at the hair line when trying to make a clean t box hit at close range. God help me if I face a bald adversary though lol
Using the Carry Handle is cheaper than getting some of the Unity mounts for Aimpoint are the same Height as the Carry Handle just think about that the Delta Operators of Blackhawk Down were 30 years ahead of their time with carry handle mounted Aimpoint 5000!
It is pretty wild to watch everything just cycle around and around lol. A lot of it seems to be just chasing the next best thing to find out we had it pretty good before
I hope they can up the production as they move along. Havent got to see one in person yet, but it's awesome that they're bringing out a few different models for different time periods
Actually 1-9 twist is good for up to 69 grain. ..My brothers 20" A2 1-9 CL Bushmaster (90's) shoots Hrndy 75gr 1" shift of 62gr ball. Also you could have just bought a commercial spec Car15 stock, I have two.
The red dot is an inexpensive primary arms slx 30mm. It works pretty well, but I haven't beat on it or anything. It's sitting in a 30mm low mount on a leupold carry handle rail if I remember right.
At short distances (10 yds and in) I'm not sure how much deflection you'd see. For longer shooting I agree that resting on the barrel will change point of impact. I was mostly worried about seeing the target through the barricade slot when your optic sits so high
Check Heavy Armor Division on gunbroker every once in a while. They're not terribly cheap, but they make some pretty cool stuff. I think PSA is going to be trying to bring some to market, but I'm sure they'll be out of stock for like 2 years.
