Great video. I had one of these that I eventually sold off. The SRAM cards usually require a 16 bit PCMCIA bus slot. I got it working by using an older Compaq LTE Elite (486 class laptop) as a bridge computer. You still need the appropriate drivers. I forget if I made a video on this but will check.

Thiese are cool little machines. Kinda wish the form factor was still popular because i love the size of these.

I guess issues is that those cards are memory mapped banks. And newer PCMCIA doesnt even't know what to do. I got Atari Portfolio and I had to use serial file transfer bootstraping procedure to copy files to it. Not the simplest process and quite error prone. And then battery backup failed on my SRAM card on portfolio... quite annoying. I need to see if I can use some of my vintage laptops to read RAM PCMCIA cards for file transfer, but Atari used a custom card. So no dice there.
@electrohoard
@electrohoard Год назад
Thanks for the comments! I also have a PoCo but never managed to get one of those custom cards. I did manage to get files on it through that parallel interface. Theres a mod to allow CF card to work but I never got around to trying it… have you read about it?

No, no backlight. Bu the screen is much better than the HP. Better contrast and much bigger.

Please share a link for the serial connector project, I have one of these machines and I'd be interested in getting one! If you are looking for something to play, I made a port of Wolfenstein 3D to run on 8088 / CGA machines with an inverse LCD option :)

I also think its very cool, even coolest than the 200LX from my other video. Bigger screen, much better keyboard, two memory slots. Google for Tidalwave palmtop computer and you will find some info on it, as it was rebranded by a few different companies. Thank you very much for watching!

I belive you can run Windows Setup from the Dos, and then you should check which driver is it using and then maybe install a different one, you should also check what graphics card does the palmtop use.
@electrohoard
@electrohoard Год назад
Yes, you can run Windows Setup from DOS. I usually copy the folder just so I dont have to go through all the installation once again, since I will be choosing the same options (XT, CGA, etc). The problem is that just like the 200LX, these DOS palmtops invert the screen to give you a white background instead of the usual black DOS background. Inverting back the screen on the 200LX is easy, but I could not find a way to do the same on the Tidalwave….
@jasiuwu06

with today's tech you could put and entire computer in a card that size with TBs of SSD and GB of ram and a battery.

It won't run on a thinkpad and even less on a XP machine; the SRAM cards have a totally different bus from PCMCIA; they simply use the same connection but the protocol and internals are totally different. You need something like a 386 or up to a pentium machine to be able to read those directly, under W95; or need to get a very expensive USB SRAM reader, which goes for about 500 dollars or more usually. Whoever is able to make modern versions of those SRAM cards and sell them at a decent price will become rich overnight
@nelsoncasimirocasimiro2792

Why not put it in a camera our other divice that reads it, and then transfer it to what you want.... By the way like your honesty..... Who are you.....???
@electrohoard
@electrohoard Год назад
I’m ElectroHoard hahaha! The problem here is that very fee devices will read early PCMCIA cards, like SRAM and Linear Flash.
