Happy Friday Joey, looking forward to the release of both Retroids - thank you for another great video covering the news surrounding this whole scene .
Joey, honestly, I think Anbernic has lost it's way on the high end. I love me a vertical but I'm adding the Retroid Pocket 5 to the collection for sure. Thanks lad. Great info man.
They saved the good RP Mini colors for the RP5 haha. TBH I don't see an issue with their chosen colors, but I'm not very picky about that stuff. Plain black or see-through white/black is fine for me
Retroid is killing it. Ever since I got the pocket 2s I have thought. Man if this was just abit more powerful with an OLED it will be my dream device. Them boom, prayer answered.
@@mwitters1 Oof. Odin 2 is still better in almost every way at a fraction of the cost + having to deal with the lack of support from Ayaneo. Feels bad man
The RG405V was the handheld I saw a thumbnail of, and ended up down the YT rabbithole on handhelds from there. I have been waiting for this exact device. A more powerful 405V. I just want PS2 level performance in that form factor.
There was a gray with the orange back now it's white. Already own an odin 2 white. Wanted a different color way and was only interested in the gray and orange.
100% agree on verticals. The Anbernic RG40XX V looks ok for Game Boy/Game Boy Colour. I don’t think I’d put any anything else on it, but then I’d prefer a vertical 1:1 screen vertical.
My guess is they learned from criticism for RP4 and RP4P just having different Chip-Set and Android Version but the Pro not actually feeling like the superior product. So I assume they now want to release tweo distinct handhelds, the mini being the technically weaker one and the RP5 looking and feeling superior by being "more", if that makes sense. In both cases, not a fan of glassy surface, it's bound to collect finger prints, especially on the front where the controls are. Hope they will change that when actual proto types are in production.
Just picked up a RP 4 Pro, and I LOVE IT!!! Yeah, not a fan of this new design. It's too generic. And I'm with you, where are the fun colors. I bought the Clear Blue 4Pro, bought gray joysticks and the SFC buttons, not sold on the buttons change, I think it makes it look too TOY like, but the gray sticks over black were 100% a winning choice.
I only need a small portable retrogame (like rgxx35h, and i like it also because you have 2 analogs sticks), and one a little bigger, but not TOO BIG, like de Odin 2 Mini, it's great for PS2, 3DS, Cube and DreamCast
the only good thing i get from the 406v is knowing a 406h will inevitably come out but any real interest in it is already squandered knowing itll have bad sticks. really thinking the pocket mini will probably be my next device. if the screen is a big enough improvement over the 3.5''
Honestly it is such a pain to setup Emudeck - you pretty much have to compile it yourself and do the entire config, I'd buy the Emudeck mini PC if I needed it. But these days, RetroPie is a thing so...
The 406v is because of the Aya Neo DMG. Anbernic doing what they do. Rushing to market to capture what ever sales they can. But im done with anbernic because they keep sending out units full of ports. It will cost us port master one day.
I'm looking forward to the 406V. I liked the 405V a lot. I didn't buy one because price and power-wise it fit in a weird space where it was overkill for a lot of retro stuff and not appreciably better than my phone + a controller for PS2/GC/Android. If it cost less or had more oomph... I'd be very happy if they just took the 405V as-is and shoehorned the T820 into it. If they have to make changes, I guess they could smooth out the rubenesque curves of the 405V, recess the sticks, and make it look like a Super RG353V. It'd lose some comfort, yes, but in exchange it'd get better portability and a bit of sleekness. Unrelated Question: Is there any game launcher for Android that'll let you automatically scrape a folder of your own images? Or is there a way to get Beacon to scrape from a folder? I ask because I really like those "Mix" photos that came with my R36S; the ones that have a pic of the box, cartridge, game logo, and screenshot. I think they're nicer than just plain box art. I copied a bunch off of the R36S's stock SD card onto my phone and they really make my N64 ROMs in Beacon look great. The only problem is that as far as I can tell Beacon only lets me apply them one at a time in the launcher OR with a manually created backup file where I also have to insert the pics one at a time. That's fine for a platform like N64 which has less than 100 games worth playing. However; I've got multiple thousand game 8 and 16 bit ROMsets that I'd like to fix up as well. The smart thing would be to curate them down like I did with N64; but, I kind of like the whole Linux Chinese handheld style "scroll through a long list until you randomly see something with a cool picture and name that you never knew existed" thing and I'd like to bring that to my Androids in the laziest way possible.
"I'd be very happy if they just took the 405V as-is and shoehorned the T820 into it." Earlier today Anbernic did their first RG406V info dump and it appears that I got exactly what I wanted. I need to go buy a lottery ticket.
vertical will always be more comfortable for me and i can lay on my side and play. A GC vertical handheld is what i want. 16:9 emulator makes little sense to me, moonlight is the only real use for me.
Was a bit disappointed with the Pocket Mini's screen but if it plays PS2 and GC well at a not too expensive price, I might consider it. I want a device that is a bit smaller than the Steam Deck that can play almost if not all of the games from the GC and PS2 libraries. I've been considering the Odin 2 Mini Pro but it's just too expensive and I don't want to pay Steam Deck LCD launch prices for one. I like the RP4Pro but with the RP5 being teased with a bigger and much better screen, I'll most likely get the RP5 depending on the price
So for the price point do you agree that the 4 pro is better to get then the Odin pro 1 at the same price? Just asking because Russ retro guy said that the Odin is no good.
When you say "more powerful vertical," I consider clamshells a sub-vertical category. I want a more powerful Retroid Flip, which I am willing to bet I am alone on.
I hope you guys are right, but let's wait and see what chip they're using, if it's not top tier we'll hear about the pro version a couple months later. A lot of people felt burned when the 4 pro came out, so they could have just called the 5 "pro" already.
@@antonio_carvalho there will be no pro version. A rep confirmed it. A rp might be announced somewhere towards the end of next year or even later if retroids has plans for a flip 2 in 2025
So, another vertical, that can most likely emulate one or more consoles that came with analog triggers, yet won't have analog triggers itself...? Yaaaaay...
The mini is going to be around $250 and the RP5 is going to easily be $300+ (maybe even as high as $350 on launch). Anything less is totally unrealistic. I know we've all been spoiled by cheap/powerful devices, but these are clearly aiming for a premium market.
@@clausjahnel5379 They haven't announced which Snapdragon they're using, but they have indicated that it's going to be atleast equal to the Odin 2 in terms of power. Beyond that, they're clearly using a premium build quality that is actually very similar to the Odin 2, and they're using an AMOLED screen. So yeah, it's clearly going to cost a lot of money. Sorry.
D-PAD top is the way it should be. That offset xbox style thumb stick top left bottom right is so un-ergonomic and ugly. Plus it's a retro style machine and D=PAD is what we're gonna be playing with most often anyway. They nailed this.
Now that I know what chipset they will put inside those things… the hype is totally gone away. I have a Odin will still smash the rp5. Don’t really know what they’re thinking with a device like this. I understand that Ayn and Retroid are connected and releasing a handheld with better performances that the Odin 2 with a lower price will be counterproductive… and if they give us a device that plays everything we are not in need to buy the next device they will release… but this is totally useless in the market right now and I bet that even AYN will release another device before the end of the year…. So I will wait for that instead.
Sorry if dumb question but I know nothing about Bazzite. I have a SteamDeck which I use frequently, and if I buy the Steam machine from indiegogo will my saves transfer between my steamdeck and my Steam machine if I use the same account? Thanks Joey and friends 😊
@@dream_state yeah. Joey did a quick news video on it about two months ago. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aO9OeRIZA84.htmlsi=U7gjz9ujPLU_AbdX
Every time they announce a new vertical device I'm really hoping they improve the quality of the buttons and the device overall in terms of materials and design, I'm not really interested in performance improvements. The RG40XX V has issues with the analog stick, I hope the 405 gets this fixed. Quieter should buttons and triggers would be a nice improvement as well. Same thing applies to the RG35XXSP, it had great success despite the clicky buttons most people seem to complain about, they really should be working on an improved version of that.
Until RP5 specs are revealed, and I can see just how much better it is than my RG556 (cost/spec ratio), I'm not leaping at the option yet. However, if I do, that GameCube look is unique enough to go for personally. Went for the translucent blue RG556 so it was a little different for example.
Is there anything smallish, with an OLED, fastish processor, good controls? Basically I'm looking for the best smallish form factor with an oled and good controls. Your other comparison video made it seem, like there is no such thing, currently? And if you compromise on processor, what types of games/consoles do you forgo? - I've been eying these "meta consoles" for years and I feel slowly they're getting to the point where I can make my one purchase of them!
I tried the RP4 pro and it is so unconfortable, returned it. My hands are not that big but i couldn't handle it wihout pain even with the grip. Which is a shame cause i love everything about it. And the joystick on the bottom is a big mistake
Honestly, Anbernic still hasn't given me a reason to upgrade from the 353M. It's obviously pretty outdated, but the form factor and build quality are still great and I'm one of the few people that really enjoys dual-boot. Having access to Portmaster on the Linux side and Android games like PokeMMO is hard to beat imo.
I wouldn't say it's outdated at all, the H700 devices are on par power wise and in a lot of ways, the build quality on the RK3566 devices far surpasses the current models. I think you're doing it right.
