IMPORTANT NOTE: Citra is no longer supported by the developers. If you already have it downloaded, keep it. There are also forks of Citra but legally this emulator is no longer in circulation.
For an amateur like me honestly its really overwhelming to do all of this especialy since i dont really have roms library. But after i am done with all of this only smile left on my face. I really appreciate this kind of videos. I really would be at lost if not for you video and resell my retroid pocket flip 😂
I just ordered a Pocket Flip. Thank you so much for creating this video! I didn't realize how much set up was necessary, but you've made the process much easier to understand and to get me gaming ASAP. Appreciate you.
Thank you so much. I went into a lot of detail here. The critical things are bios and Roms, setting up your emulators and connecting them to your front end. I am also awaiting shipment of my Flip and I must say I am very excited 😊
How do you get the roms on the as cars complete noob here to this my first handheld rom will be the flip once I figure out how to get the rims on my sd card
After watching this video, this is now my go-to video to point people too when they ask where to start when getting a Retroid pocket device on Reddit and Facebook.
Ah thank you. I really went off the deep end in terms of detail on this video. But I am realising I need to do this once in a while when the topics needs it.
@@adinwalls but that’s what I like about it. For several of these guides some of the others have made they are very broad and don’t show much outside of here’s to basics to get going and that’s it. Heck I have been into emulation for quite a while and found the shader part particularly useful because what looks good on my pc monitor doesn’t look great on the rp3+.
My 3+ should be here n 5 days and I seen a couple of these starter videos and not sure which one I should use...retro gaming corps have a gd one ...this one is also gd
You ara a LIFESAVER! I just received my Flip. I probably could have figured out how to load games but would have been stuck with the Retroid Pocket loader. This was my first experience with Daijisho and with using shaders/filters in RetroArch. I'm really only using NES, SNES, Genesis, and FB Neo/MAME, and I absolutely love the CRT stuff. This tutorial was fantastic!! Many thanks, Adin.
Bro, thank you so much for this super detailed setup guide. I’m a newbie and thanks to you I was able to set everything up from the first go. You f*cking rule 🙌🏽
Wow I just subscribed. Great video, Very clear and concise. As an owner of the pocket 2plus, 3 and now pre-ordered the pocket flip. This video was fantastic. I installed Daijisho on my logitech g cloud and it is awesome! Great call on suggesting that front end. Keep up the great content.
I trying to get help from anyone I can I just gt rp3+ and I don't have PC can I do everything with a gd tablet I also have micro SD card card and micro SD card reader please help me I don't wanna start to do anything yet so I don't screw up my stuff thanks
Was trying to post this on Thursday, but RU-vid would not let me, on my phone. Here it is now. Not watched the whole video yet: "Wowee! Epic...just tucking in, whilst I wait, quite a long time I think, for my dinner in a crowded, noisy Oslo hotel restaurant. Maybe you will convince me to make the effort to use Daijisho (or however it is spelt)...though the Retroid Launcher seems to work well enough."
@@adinwalls ...I'm sure, but the thing is, everything works fine now with the Retroid Launcher. I can play the games I want to play...& I want that to be my focus now, playing games, not endlessly tinkering. I don't think I can get Doom & Quake...or Amiga 500/1200 & Atari ST roms running from the Retroid Launcher...can I?...but maybe it is easy with in Daijisho? THAT might convince me to make the effort...when I'm not too busy grinding through Ultimate Ghosts & Goblins (PSP), Huntdown (Android) & now Speedball 2 (Megadrive) with a properly decent team now, crushing the opponents (mainly).
Not sure if Daijisho will make a difference there. And you’re right sometimes I forget to at not everyone wants to fiddle with firmware and front ends!
@@adinwalls ...oh I think it's great fun, but am struggling with the amount of procrastination engendered by game playing (better than mindless phone scrolling at least)...let alone fixing something that isn't broken. So Daijisho is not going to add Amiga and Atari ST emulation or easy ways to run DOOM & QUAKE to my arsenal?
Your setup steps are correct. Well done lad. I prefer a different frontend but generally, your setup should be perfect for getting someone who knows nothing about setting up either a RP3/3+/Flip. Thanks for the content young lad.
Im trying to get help from anyone I can I just gt my rp3+ I don't have PC can I do everything with a gd tablet.i also have a micro SD card and micro SD card reader please help me
@@STR82DVD basically the whole set up I'm not sure if I need to buy a laptop to set everything up right without having problems...if you think i can set everything up from a tablet please lmk...i truly appreciate you getting bk to me hope you have a good day..
@@EricFriedman-re4gs if you setup your SD card up as portable storage then you should be able to use it in a tablet to transfer your games to it without a computer. Then you can move your files back and forth between the tablet and the RP flip using sneakernet.
This is great! There are SO MANY awesome videos about how to setup the RP3+, but yours, I feel is the most in-depth. I ordered one over the weekend (and it should be here by Friday) so I cannot wait to pull your video up and do a side by side setup and play some retro games Thank you for this!
The frustration is that Retroid expects you to setup emulators by yourself. Surely once I load Roms and Bios by myself it should be over. Having to Setup evrry single emulator just drives buyers towards a more convenient system like Ambernic. The RG Nano (my first Ambernic) is a great little marvel (altough a gimmick) and the perfect keychain.😂 No setup necessary. (let alone the games).
Metroid have done a lot of the leg work with some of these emulators. Even with Anbernic I would still go through the emulators and make sure that my controls are mapped correctly etc But I do agree that something like the RG405M is a little easier to set up
This is SO GOOD. Want to do this with my phone as I don't own a retro handheld but this is basically an android setup guide (which is awesome). You sound like you are from South Africa? I'm from South Africa
I just got my pocket slip in the mail today. I have to say it’s a pain in the ass I’d rather the ones that come with the games pre-loaded. This looks like a nightmare waiting to happen.
Hi, did your retroid device come with Google Play on it? My Pocket Flip did not and I don't see a timestamp for how you got that on there to get Daijisho.
I think there is a market for retro system third party setup. I would have happily paid extra for someone to get the machine ready for me. I know some love the whole process but not everyone has to.
Awesome guide, was wondering, when you added that shader for NES, did you find fps dropped? On my flip it dropped to around 50 fps, which I find unacceptable. Still trying to identify best blend of shaders that are also performant…
I cant decide between Retroid Pocket 3 plus or Flip. I want to play PS2, PS1, PSP, N64 and Dreamcast games plus a few Android forks of PS2 titles that are already on the Play Store. I'm not sure if the hinges on the Flip break easily and I heard the cooling fan can be noisy. Will I need a grip if I get the Pocket 3 plus? Im going to put all my favorite roms on a 512 GB SD card.
The grip is nice albeit a bit fiddly. The Flip is such a lovely device. One of my top devices of the year, but the screen encroaches on the R1 and L1 buttons which, for me, was a pain playing Metroid Prime for GameCube which essentially uses up all the buttons. If this is your only device get the RP3+. But if you already have a steam deck or something, the Flip is something special to own (I haven’t heard any reports of broken hinges).
Can i use a tablet instead of pc cause i don't have pc but i have a tablet usb c cable and micro SD reader also my 3+ will arrive in 4 days and im going to use ur video for sure cause im just starting out thanks
@@adinwalls what are work arounds I truly appreciate you...sorry to bug you just your the only person that knows wat hes doing and is not a jerk u actually reply bk and are sincere
I haven’t had a chance to test this unfortunately. I am sure you could find this on the website for the Dolphin emulator. There’s also the forks of dolphin to check out
I have just gone through the set up process. I spent about 2-3 hours with it. It was tedious but I think it has been worth it. I'm really surprised with the PS2 performance. For a machine that "can't do PS2" according to some comments I have read about it, it has managed to run the games I want to play at 100% speed. Some of them with 1.5x resolution too. I wouldn't call that not being able to run ps2 :D
I am trying to get help from anyone I can I just got rp3+ and I don't have PC .can I do everything with a gd tablet..I also have a micro SD card and micro SD card reader please help me..
I have one on the way and I'm new to the retro handheld community. Is there a way to front load an SD card with all the ROMS so I can just insert the card into the Pocket flip when it arrives? Thanks
Hey there. Yes technically. The Android system will ask to use the SD card as phone storage or external storage, you must choose external storage. I used my existing card from the Retroid Pocket 3+ in this way and it works.
@@adinwalls So what in your opinion is the best place to get said ROMS and is there a guide on how to setup the folders. As I said, I'm new to all this so any help is appreciated.
Subscribed. Thanks. In the Citra (Nintendo 3DS) setting process you set both ZL and Pause Menu as L2. Won't that cause unwanted inputs when you use that button?
The link to buy the Flip? Yes. I ordered directly from Retroid. The will start shipping from about the 10th of April but that was for the first lot of orders. Also, their shipping is very fast. Once they actually send it off it takes about 5 days which is incredible.
How long do you think this guide will hold up for? Let's say I held out until a retroid pocket 4 plus or something a year from now on a newer Android version, do you think this guide would still be useful or would some of it be incorrect? Just curious, regardless thanks for the high effort content!
Hey man, not sure why you’re asking but an RP4 will definitely need a new video. Android emulation is changing so rapidly, I’m not even sure if I should make a separate video on it. I may just create a separate website article and update it monthly.
I'm new for this consoles, I hope you can see my question, Do we need BIOS files for all systems (Playstation, Nintendo, Sega, etc.)? What happen if I dont install BIOS? Thanks man.
Are we really certain that the Pocket Flip will be identical to the 3+ in terms of software? I ask because I pre-ordered one myself and am genuinely curious. Thanks!!
So far, it is running Android 11 which is the same as the RP3+. However once I get my hands on it I will make any necessary adjustments to the written guide. Videos show an updated launcher but in the guide I recommend Daijisho as a better option.
It is slightly different. I'm trying to follow this tutorial video with my Retroid Pocket Flip and there are some differences. It's a pain, I can tell you!
@@adinwalls thank you, i figured it out, there's a wide screen option in the game menu that I haven't enabled. Also any tips for game cube game that have 2 disc, do I copy them in one folder or just put them in the game cube rom folder? Thank you
Hello can someone help me please. I deleted all players when I reset, how do I download them all again? There are no games on the device how do I reload it again? I'll be happy to hear back.
@@adinwalls I've seen it unfortunately doesn't work for me. I don't have a player on it. how do i load the players onto the handheld . Unfortunately, I can't speak English and that's why I don't understand everything about your video
@@cankarahan8013 if you get into GameCube, PSP, 3DS etc. you will run out of space quite quickly. That being said, if you just tidy up your Roms every few weeks, you’ll be fine.
Do you have a guide to setup ports ? Like Doom or half life . I have about 30 ports on my RG353M Linux side . But not sure about android. Any support is greatly appreciated
When I plug in my Pocket Flip to my pc it keeps connecting and disconnecting, anyone else have this issue? I've tried different USB ports and different cables :(
First and foremost, thank you very much for your video. Just awesome, man. I did exactly the same you did on your video but I'm getting issues with FB Neo and CPS 2 and 3 (probably 1 too, depends on the game I guess). The issue says "this game is know but one of your romsets is missing files for THIS VERSION of FBNeo". Can you give me some light to the right direction to fix the error?
@@adinwalls yes, daijisho and the core is selected properly. I’ve read that I have to rebuild the romset but I don’t really understand what’s exactly what I have to do
I am hearing some (disturbing) reports that there are problems with speakers with reversed polarity on the RP3+. Can anyone speak to that and potentially assuage my fears lol?
this extensive set up is odd, my Retroid Pocket 2 came preinstalled with tons of games, and even had a marketplace where I could easily download more games. This looks very complicated. I ordered the Flip but now I am kind of disappointed.
Hey there. To explain, Retroid don’t ship the device with any games, only Android, and their front end. Legally no manufacturer is permitted to ship devices with games or bios files. The fact that any of them do this is pretty sketchy to say the least.
@@adinwalls legally for who ? China doesn't exactly adhere to international law. Frankly , as long as they are defunt consoles, I do not see the problem. After all if those consoles come empty I might as well use my Gamesir X2 Pro with my phone and play on a even bigger and better screen. To be clear I also own an Evercade with most retro carts but it is only restricted to very ancient games.
I totally get the frustration. Many games we just play as ROMs are still licensed to game creators and Nintendo. So it’s a grey area at least. I actually respect Retroid for trying to be ethical. Some manufacturers are even shipping devices with paid emulators but not paying the devs. Which I find appalling.
