So happy the E8 is making a limited return. It’s obviously up to the owner on whether or not to give it PTC, but at least this year 5711 saw the light plenty of times.
As far as I know Bennett Levin, the E8's owner, has no plans to install PTC in the locomotive and I don't blame him. In my opinion antique railroad equipment like 5711 should be exempt from PTC requirements. Anywhere it goes the host railroad's going to have a pilot in the cab and who knows how many other host road people so there's no way 5711's engineer is going to,let his attention drift! The whole idea behind PTC was to act in the case of an engineer's inattention to what's going on around him.
My special needs son loves trains 🚆🚋🚞🚝🚊🚉🚈🚇🚅🚄🚃 especially steam locomotives like #9 he is glad that it is up and running again and hopes that it will pull both passengers and freight.
Well I'm sure glad this video found me! It's always a treat to see Bennett Levin's Pennsy E8 in action and seeing SMS's #9 alive and moving was a thrill! Even if the tender and cab are in grey primer! SMS is truly a class act! I'll be checking out your other videos, trust me! I'm an old Jersey guy myself, North Jersey to be exact, moved away in 1987 but I'm always curious as to what's going on with the home folks. Thanks for posting!
