Dateline: November 2nd 2021. My YT friends have been having fun with their motor gliders, so after spending the past year packed away in its box (and lucky to have not been binned/sold/sacrificially killed with fire to appease the RC Gods)... my Arcus M is back. I blame the lovely Brian Forward (go watch his channel) for championing motor gliders - and equally lovely Martyn (FlankerTanker... go watch his channel, too!) for his recent success re-maidening his Radian for inspiring me. So... with confidence renewed and nerves a-jangle, I launched my Arcus M skyward...

Hi Gina, I find that putting a mixed in (down elevator with my throttle ) on the Night Radian - really does work keeping it from acting as if it is tail heavy due to the thrust..... Brian must have sacrificed a lot of pork pies for the gods to be so well behaved regarding your weather - not keen on the Pod idea - a nice prop on the nose would be good - has it got air breaks !!! sorry to see it go in - but you know you can fix it - then sell it .........then get a power glider with a motor and folding prop on the nose 😋😋😋

Hi Martyn! The motor pod thing is the same on the real glider, and in retrospect I will not buy another of these. Should the motor pod sequencer fail, then I'll hoik out the motor and turn it into a slope soarer... for all those slopes I live near 😂😂😂 I was going to give the air brakes a test on that flight but it ended all too soon! We've another motor glider to maiden sometime and that belongs to Hubster. It has a sensible motor-in-nose layout with a folding prop 👍

Hi Gina first ouf have a virtual hug for effort n commiserations.... And of course the MASSIVE SHOUT OUT... Here's something radical can you have it so the motor arm is permanently up BUT the prop hasn't a break on it so it just spins when not in use so it doesn't cause drag... Remember when you were but a slip of a gal at school and you were doing field events javelin In particular the angle you let loose the javelin is the same as the kite....Sub trim some up elivator open the taps and aim for the clouds a good 45%/55% then trim baby out while your in the blue... ...10/10 for effort I shall await your next attempt You have the skill set. Just a whacky power system Brian

Hi Brian! Thank you so much for the kind encouragement and advice. Yes, the motor arm can be manually set to up, but it takes up a channel to do so. When I looked back at the video after I'd published it, I did a freeze-frame just before I launched it. You can clearly see that the prop nut wasn't even on 😬 ...how the Hell it didn't whizz off earlier, or even before I launched, I just don't know! As mentioned in the vid, later on I found the prop nut on the living room carpet... d'oh! I also can't sub trim anything with the current set up as it's a 'dumb', i.e. non-computerised, base model Futaba T6L Tx with matching Rx... the only trims are the manual sliders. I ordered three replacement props from WSM and they turned up yesterday, so the old kite is ready to fly once more. I just don't seem to have the 'oomph' to launch it at the required angle - and then get my right hand to the controls fast enough. Next flight will be Hubster assisted, so I need to wait for a (not too) calm day when he's not working. I'm really looking forward to it 🙂

@@purcellrcaviationchannel good for you... Onwards n upwards 5/8mph breeze just for lift.. But if you haven't got the umph THE ol HUBSTER will certainly makes things easier REMEMBER you did bring it down without power on your first flight.. Looking forward to the next flight

I had the ST DG1000 with same motor setup.....OMG....what a pain in my arse. When I sloped soared it on a hill...it was just perfect...I even taped the Motor doors shut, so I would not use it. I ended up buying a new motor and all the mechanical parts and rebuilt it. After about 60 huge thermal flights, I decided to sell it. This DAMN thing is still flying to this day.

I'll persevere with this thing, LJ, as I don't give in easily. I really, *really* thought I'd got a handle on this ST Arcus, too, right before the prop fell off! D'oh! One day, I'll actually have a proper flight with it...

I was waiting for the horizon to start going up and down with occasional downward views of the air frame in a progressively more deconstructed state. Well thats what i would have done to the wretched thing!

I'm not a glider guy much, but I know a guy who is...I'll bet Cliff Harvey would know what to do to it to make it fly better...

Hi Adam. I think I've simply been plagued by some bad luck, that's all. Next time out with this (hopefully soon) I truly do feel that the RC Gods will look down on me more favourably! Or maybe not...
