Return to Oz - Episode Nine - Casting Fairuza Balk 

Fairuza is totally cool...she always takes the time to reply to my silly tweets.

I love her she's a good actress. its kinda ironic. when she got the role as a sweet little dorothy and then many years later she got the opposite role as a bad witch in the movie THE CRAFT.. gosh soo talented!

She was in “The Worst Witch” the first time I saw her. She’s one of my favorite actresses.

The fact that she beat out so many other girl who were up to four years older than her, and at such a young age, is extremely impressive. I hope that’s something she was very proud of.

Return to Oz was one of my favourite films as a kid. The Wheelers absolutely terrified me but I still watched it over & over. Its still a beloved classic. Complete perfection 😔

perfect casting

I worked on the film at Elstree studios, i trained the live chickens for playing Billena, we had twelve birds all the same breed, Plymouth rocks. Ru, as we called her was one sharp kid & for a 9 year old didn't need to be shown things twice. Great film to work on.

She is a wonderful actress and has tons of talent she now does art and allways dabbled into the superstitious dark side before doing the craft she is so unique and awsome still today.

I can't get past those eyes and that smile. Fairuze has definitely been her before.

Yeah. Temple was 10 at the time, so would've been a lot closer to the age of her character! (Apparently, with Garland they put strapping round her chest to try and compensate for her being older, but I think it would be better to simply get someone the right age in the first place - after all, they might've been able to make her look less 'developed', but there's no way they could've made her look smaller!)

I bought the book just before Christmas and it has all sorts of exercises and things to think about in it, one of which is the sort of things you'd do if a Hollywood studio asked you to make a new film of The Wizard of Oz. Well, the first thing I'd do is get someone younger to play Dorothy, like they did here - although Garland was amazing and it's undoubtedly the role she'll always be best remembered for, she was 16 at the time! (I reckon Fairuza Balk was actually prettier!)

1980’s to early 90’s Fairuza Balk: innocent and adorable Mid to late 90’s to early to mid 2000’s Fairuza Balk: dark and edgy and very hot and attractive. Hard to believe that she went from Dorothy in 1985 to a bad yet attractive gothic witch 11 years later in 1996.

I was afraid of everything as a child but I never thought Return to Oz was scary. Creepy maybe but not scary. I thought the close up of the wicked witch in the crystal ball in the original was scarier.

Fairuza was also in the period drama "VALMONT". There was a certain scene with Colin Firth which was quite controversial (considering her age). I'm not going to go into details, let's just say Fairuza used a body double,,,,

I remember this movie and it's on Disney plus. But this movie is a little scary. I think these people should know that this movie isn't a sequel to The Wizard of Oz. But I remembered seeing this actress in the movie The Worst Witch.
