One thing I want to know, u understand that things seem to mirror Oz but what is the Nurse/Mombi’s crime in this world? The clinic burning was an accident, was it the treatment of the patients?
Yes, "Troll 2" is terrible(have both movies on one DVD, not even Grandpa Seth can save us), "Oh my God!" "Troll" is my favorite score composed and conducted by Richard Band.
Even though I respectfully disagree with Siskel and Ebert's review of "Return To Oz," that being said, it's interesting to read different opinions of certain films from different perspectives. When I first saw "Return To Oz" on The Disney Channel YEARS AGO, I was entertained and freaked out of my mind. I didn't make too many comparisons to "The Wizard Of Oz;" therefore I thought that they were BOTH great in their own rights. However, I would be content to agree to disagree over certain films, because nobody has to like the same things. That's the Bottom Line. I Do Miss Siskel and Ebert, since they've been gone from this Mortal Life. R.I.P.
I discovered there are two version of this documentary, one on Vimeo that was shown at Film Festivals and a longer one on the website. I read up on some reviews that some audio issues exist with the music overlaying on the interview so it drowns out the discussion. I was curious to know which version I should watch. The "Director's Cut" or the Vimeo version?
I LOVE this movie as a kid and still do. I hadn't watched it in so long. I watched it yesterday and as an adult, so many underlying messages!! Love that it was closer to the original books!! 🤍🫶🏻
This film was one of the first films I ever saw at the cinema as a 7 year old! I was frightened of Mombi at the time (great acting), but all the characters are brilliant!! I even had the story cassette tape and book!lol I'm off to go find it to watch now! 😊
1980’s to early 90’s Fairuza Balk: innocent and adorable Mid to late 90’s to early to mid 2000’s Fairuza Balk: dark and edgy and very hot and attractive. Hard to believe that she went from Dorothy in 1985 to a bad yet attractive gothic witch 11 years later in 1996.
Oh no, this is the same as the other one. He is in bad need of an editor for his script. The grammar and incorrect use of words are so bad I can't listen to it.
I was afraid of everything as a child but I never thought Return to Oz was scary. Creepy maybe but not scary. I thought the close up of the wicked witch in the crystal ball in the original was scarier.
Aunt Em sounds absolutely relieved to have Dorothy back alive. She's probably also feeling betrayed because she entrusted Dorothy into the care of two people who appeared kind, but in reality were a danger to her niece. This scene shows that the girl who helped Dorothy escape the "clinic" was a real person; very likely another patient or a junior member of staff. The fact she was able to walk around without arousing suspicion and was aware of what the screaming was: patients who've suffered permanent brain damage from the electric shocks and hidden in the cellar.
It was the 80s. It was rare that a darker film got good ratings from critics. A lot of the dark sequels of the 80s get a bad wrap, warranted or not. For years, Back To The Future 2 was panned by critics. Temple of Doom came out the same year as this and while it’s my least favourite of the trilogy, I appreciate the darker tone. Stallone did a lot of darker action films compared with other action films of the time. But in the end, as good as Siskel and Ebert were, they had their blind spots. Siskel was very old fashioned and fancied himself an intellectual, while Ebert enjoyed movies with heart and, let’s be honest, eye porn. The movie could be very mediocre, but Roger would love it if there were interesting visuals. The Cell is a good example, a movie I like a lot as a concept and looks visually interesting, but that’s it. Everything is done for shock value. The best horror movies aren’t trying to shock you. If it’s a good horror film, it will do that already. But especially with a kids film in the 80s, there’s no way these 2 would have liked this. They didn’t like Jim Carrey’s Grinch because they thought it was too dark. I believe Roeper had replaced Gene at that point. RIP to both.
