As a gnarly old detectorist of 64 years I admire your tenacity ladies. Braving the elements is too much hardship for the "less committed". One good goose in the bag in a Black Easterly, with driving sleet, is worth ten driven pheasants on a sunny morning, to the committed hunter (so to compare). I admire toughness, so bravo indeed to you both. This weekend gone I found myself in driving sleet; nothing special had come up on three previous hunts on the field; then 'bingo, bamm, and yo!' I A terret ring. Stubborn it out ladies; "grid it out"and don't rush. You're doing real good👊👍
Love the powder flask. Also love the care you give to the historical background and context. My cold weather advice as a 🇨🇦 is to put in a couple layers of wool. At least wool hat, vest and scarf … good thick wool. The UK makes excellent garments. (Could also throw in a pair leg warmers under the pants and try a pair of gaiters over top.) 💕
It’s so cool! And the subtle details that appeared after cleaning it!! Yes definitely more layers needed! Wind chill was horrendous this dig! We want summer already! 😩🤎
the powder flask is very interesting & an unusual find. i always assumed powder was carried in some type of pottery container in that time period. thanx for the history.
These treasures from the footpath are stellar. I had to look up the word “Perdue” from the quote. Worried about you handling all that lead, please take care. I would stick with the footpath awhile.
Another great video girls... Love the history chats you do, and some lovely shots in there too... Dunno if I told you , but had James i + Commonwealth halfgroats (2 seperate digs), up just before Christmas - cool coins right in the same pocket as this, but definitely 'paling' next to those 2 big beautes of yours... 😍 Btw that powder flask = really cool!... Thanks 🙏 again, Bobby x
That’s amazing Bobby!! Commonwealth coins are on the bucket list!! Fascinating history and I’m glad we’ve been able to learn a little more about it! Haha the powder flask is so cool! Gave us a fright and we very gingerly had a look for coins in it 😆 wish we’d filmed that but we didn’t know if we were guna get blown up lol 🙈
@@RomanFound Yeah, must've been an odd time to live in England... Coins with no monarch on... (Mind you, I bet that was the *least* of anyone's worries!...) 😆 Btw I'm on a known 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' Battlefield atm... Not much coming up I'm afraid, (I think it's been cleaned out a while ago... ;). Still - fascinating to get a mental picture of ancient skirmishes, hey wot?... 🙏🏻 x
Brilliant Ellie and Lucie...As always lady's your pure energy and passion and knowledge spills over in to the art that you love. The energy that you but in to your videos is amazing. I have done a few videos on my channel but they are rubbish. Just gaining inspiration from you lady's. If you are going to detectorvil this years would love to have a chat and buy you gals a beer. Kind regards Ian and Connor Green.
Thank you guys!! It’s certainly a labour of love creating these episodes! Always learning something new! 🤓🙌 Yes we’ll be at Detectival, catch you both at the beer tent!!🍻💪
The background history that you both provide is fascinating and really adds to the appreciation of the finds. The powder flask is really cool! I look forward to your videos please keep them coming! Thank you !
Appreciate the kind words Matthew! Even for ourselves it gives greater appreciation of what we’re finding, sometimes a find might not seem too exciting on first glances until you start researching it!! 💪✨
May I recommend having a glance the the "Wellington statue" and see if it matches your button. The images will be easy to find on google. let me know what you find out, if anything. So far it's looking like this could be your year. I hope it is. TTFN
@@RomanFound Beautiful find the flask, love the way it's shaped. Evidently they carried alot of clobber, not dissimilar to a detectorist carrying alot of ancillary equipment through the mud! Incidentally Id thought the horseshoe was meant to stay one way up but I'm not sure now. You don't need to worry as it's not complete though. I got a rough date with a horseshoe about 3 weeks ago, turned out it could be Tudor!
Check out parts of the castle wall for signs of musket ball impact at the old entrance and down by the river as they can still be seen and it is worth nipping into Gregs for a coffee to see the 1st flushing and oldest toilet in Newark and crazy painted fire place on the top floor. St.Marys is worth a visit to see the wall painting near the old chapel and the misericords are bonkers @@RomanFound
Ohh wow!! Thank you for all these suggestions! Will certainly add them to the tour!! We’re trying to get the museum on board for the video, need to go in again and see them!
