William Kasten is like a genie but instead of rubbing a lamp and making 3 wishes you find him morphing into your buisness offices and dissipating leaving behind fully voice acted max dialogue and a half-eaten bag of pistachios. Now that I think about it that’s not very genie-like.
@@MakusinMeringueSam: ”Katzen? I remember him. He’s like a genie, if instead of three wishes, he gave you a half eaten bag of pistachios-Shells intact-a makeshift bed underneath the desk in your office cubicle, and an incomplete resume hand-written in italicized Courier New.” Max: “And all my dialogue for this game!” Ash: “What does any of that have to do with Genies?” Sam: “Huh. Not all that much, come to think of it.”
Fun fact about Brock and ash’s connection, Ash says that Brock is an old family name in the 2015 Evil Dead show, it’s revealed that Ash’s dad is named Brock. I have no idea if this a coincidence, or if they thought of that connection while writing the show
There was something really cool about the jarring art styles of the four bombastic characters in the first game that the sequel simply doesn't get, in my opinion.
I swear Poker Night is a mood, I remember playing it late at night just to chill. Thank you so much for making me remember such a special, quirky game.
The only disappointing part of this video is the clip used for Steve's party bazooka wasn't the Brock Samson version purely because of Brock's reaction.
@@clydenorthrup5484 It wasn't even pummeling. Samson stands up calmly and walks straight towards Steve. Steve runs off and Samson calmly changes course to follow until both are offscreen. No noise of struggle. No screams. Just your imagination filling in the blanks far better than the devs ever could.
I played this game an unreasonable amount and I never ever saw that sam and max song scene. is it exclusive to the sam and max themed background or something?
yeah, it's exclusive to the full sam and max set - all of the other "location specific" dialogue can be found on the wiki: theinventory.fandom.com/wiki/Location_Specific_Dialogue
@@meikkon_ wack! I think I had a tendency to keep it set to the default background so I never knew that was a mechanic. I started watching this video a couple days ago and then went back to finish it only to find you shouted me out! cheers for that, and this video was amazing!
Okay, but when are we gonna hold an actual poker tournament? You, me, and any other Poker Night content creator who aren't cowards. I'll take on all of you, any time, any place! Great video, worth the wait in every regard. And I am honored to have offered my voice to such a project, I would love to come back on the next video on Poker Night 3- oh... right
To be honest I entirely forgot of the existence of Gotham City Impostors, a game i havent played since the 360 was the most recent game console. I miss it so much, and remember how bad i was at it.
Cool to see Grayfruit mentioned as a thank you. His PN content is one of my constant rewatches. To be fair I probably never know of this game if it weren't for him, and it's one of the first things I watched of his channel.
This game was my white whale for years since i discovered it long after it had been pulled from digital stores but i finally managed to track down a copy and it lived up to every bit of hype
Never knew about the Psychonauts connection to Portal. Thinking about it, Ford Krueller from thise games would have been a great pick for a Poker Night 3, though they'd probably have to establish some lore to establish him not using his Psychic Powers to cheat.
I can imagine the Psychonauts' special elimination be using the sneezing powder on the character, making them sneeze their brain out before their body wanders off around the Inventory.
the poker night games have always been some of my favorite games i originally found out about them through tf2 and i played the first game for the items and loved and got the second game and later got texas holdem , I wish they were back on steam
Got a mild hyperfixation on the game series earlier this year and wrote a sequel called "UNO Night at The Inventory" starring Sonic the Hedgehog, Susie Deltarune, Hat Kid, and Joker Persona 5. Also hosted by Chris McLean from Total Drama. As for the dealer and the whole Teens or Below theme, I decided to go with the cute little robot from Square Enix: Cube from Live A Live.
I had an idea for one called "fishing at the inventory," the cast being Engineer from tf2, uzi doorman from murder drones, tom from eddsworld, and captain price from cod. With the host is the same from the last three games. The dealer is g man from half life.
@MarioGMan25 I have interaction ideas like Price asking if Tom ever joined the Rangers with Tom saying he did and once stole a tank (an Easter egg to moving targets). Or the engineer explaining to uzi how he could modify her railgun
Extremely glad you talked about the soundtrack, I came for the conversations and stayed for the great music by Jared. This video was excellent and I'm glad I'm watching it as early as I can! I love the Poker Night series, specially this game. Really hope some developers picks up the idea. This great piece might help to share some awareness, too!
Nostalgia is when you like something just because it's from the past, and not because you actually appreciate the story on its own merits. I'd encourage you to give Portal more credit, as it's a genuinely fantastic narrative.
Gosh, what a nostalgic video, great job partner. For I do remember playing Poker Night At The Inventory 2 a lot when I would be on road trips that or just out in public on my phone, suck a shake that when I had gotten some sort of update that it just delisted it from my library and just made it unavailable to download anymore, but I will never forget what it brought to me. As of today it’s actually still fun to hop on my laptop and play the games 1 and 2 whenever I got free time. As it’s nice to just sit and play and occasionally hear the banter of one character to another as it was just… nice. With it either being Brock and Claptrap bickering to how claptrap needs a bodyguard, that or how Heavy would say “I will make hat of you little bunny” to Max was just a barrel of laughs. That and the unlocks, I’ll never get rid nor delete the cosmetics I have in TF2 from 1 and 2, that or even my borderlands 2 unlocks. This really just makes me wish that we would get another Poker Night At The Inventory 3 featuring a lot of characters and other things, but that is only a wish and a thought, 2 things that may never come true. But it’s best to live with what we got now, two prices less pieces of nostalgic media of a classic game of video game poker. ♥️ ♣️ ♦️ ♠️
When I heard Nick Herman's voiceover I immediately went "Wait... that's Casperr!! :D" Man, watching this video is nostalgic. I had such a good time with Poker Night. I miss it.
Honestly to this day I still prefer Poker Night 1. However, a lot of Poker Night 2 I overlooked as you included in the video. Gonna install it again after this! It’s been a decade-I can’t believe it…
I miss this game and hate myself for not buying it before it was unlisted, developers weren't afraid of featuring eachother's characters in their games (or even tv series etc) and it was the most prominent in TF2 with all the cosmetics it offered for preordering certain (good) games. Despite being so small and simple its really enjoyable to just spend time with the cast because they're convincing enough that they're actually there, so to say. I wish there was more games like this, fun & relaxing gameplay with unlockable content in other games by just playing on top of it? Unheard of these days.
Minor correction: The Expanse isn't an IP that Telltale have created, it's originally a series of novels adapted into a TV series. I don't know if you already knew that, it's just the way you phrased it made it sound like they had created it themselves.
I've seriously waited for a second video ever since I watched the first Poker Night video And I think much like Poker Night 2 it delivered a more extensive and complete documentary with double the length of its original predecessor with much more quality put into it I seriously think that both of your videos are RU-vid classics about Telltale Games as a whole (IMO) But to wrap things up, incredible job on making this video and the first one, I highly enjoyed watching them both
The trouble with indie characters is that almost any ones you might get that have any pull don't have a voice yet. And the characters really need to talk for this sort of thing to work. Text popping up is a lot less natural.
Imagine a world where the premiere character crossover game is not a pvp brawl simulator made by Nintendo but a funny poker sim where every character from every franchise suddenly gets together to play a round in the inventory. Now that's something I wanna see someday...
Eyyy, what a pleasant surprise. Just wanna say that seeing your video on the first game about a month or so ago, convinced me to go and find these games to try them out and enjoyed both of them thoroughly. And I was also thinking that it would have been nice to see a video on the second game as well. Perfect timing
Well, this settles. I'll watch the first video now before I start this one. Everyone else, I bid you adieu and farewell! Enjoy the video! Edit: okay i'm back, how is everybody feeling? That first video was a wild ride! Like most of everybody else, I also come from TF2 and only knew Heavy, with slight knowledge of Max and the Newgrounds character. I vividly remember seeing a screenshot of that game and never thought much of it. I couldn't believe this whole series was a telltale endeavor! Tycho being a representative of PAX as well?? This is some deep hidden lore I have never seen before in my 13+ years in the gaming community. Honestly some great documentation right here. Can't wait to delve into this one. See ya'll on the other side :O
The first part was in my recommendations just a few days ago, I checked the channel and said , Damn, I guess the second part never happened... well here we are !
Oh man, talk about a blast from the past! I remember watching videos of this game on RU-vid when I was little. I didn't know how to play poker, but I enjoyed the banter so much!!!
It's amazing! I was just rewatching your video on the first game and I see that you made the video you teased about the successor. Especially love the section on the music, since I'm an avid VGM fan myself. Decided to give you a sub since what I've seen so far is nothing but quality.
The soundtrack really is fantastic, I'm glad you devoted enough time to really appreciate it in the video. With regards to Ash I never understood the mountain of hate Danny Webber got, I thought he did a pretty solid impression of Bruce's voice and mannerisms, and almost sounds dead on when he's really confidently projecting himself.
(By the way the first time we see Brock is in the pilot) but you got it right on the nail there too man I think it’s funny how in the actual first episode (dia de los dangerous) he by starts out playing poker
I only realised this like last week ahaha over here in the UK we only had streaming rights to the seasons themselves and were missing a lot of the specials, so the pilot episode slipped by my radar during the christmas season it was all put up on channel 4 though, alongside the new movie (for free!) which is sick
Poker Night and its sequel are where I learned how to play poker. I had no idea the games were de-listed. The close ties with Valve made it feel like they'd be on Steam forever.
34:40 When you bring up unused lines for glados pertaining to 5 challenges, this may have had to do with the (I believe now discontinued) cosmetics for the Portal 2 Co Op robots. Just like TF2 you could equip hats and skins to Atlas and P-Body that you could buy from the Mann Co store, and in PN2's case perhaps unlocked items from the game. The reason I suggest this is because of the skins you could unlock for Borderlands 2 and items for TF2. They might have intended to go further for Valve's newest title at the time.
Something to mention is that Ash is specifically mentioned in-game as from the "Army of Darkness" franchise. Army of Darkness is not owned by MGM, but Universal. This is why it's treated as its own separate franchise, why it is seemingly ignored in later installments except for subtle easter eggs, and potentially why it got to poker night in the first place since the license was likely much cheaper.
My introduction to Poker Night 2 was a weirdly unrelated one. It was ye olde 2013, and some Russian dude was reviewing some "zesty" games. One of those happened to be Poker Night 2. I had no idea who Brock, Ash, Sam or Max were, at most I vaguely heard of Claptrap and knew Glados. And yet, with my growing yet limited grasp of English, this game endeared me somehow. It was great to just listen to them talk around, having fun and crushing me at poker. It is a game I still hold dear to my heart, no TF2 cosmetics needed.
I think a poker night with some of the popular characters on the Internet could be cool just so they don't have to go for big, expensive, ips. Maybe cain from digital cirus as a dealer could be fun Or the host of toonami would be pretty cool. Any one else got interesting ideas?
If there ever is a third game i think one of the players should be Barney Calhoun from half life 2, both because it would complete the orange box collection of characters in these games, and because he is an all around good character who would have pretty great dialogue, but if he doesn’t make the cut my second pick would be nick from left 4 dead 2.
I think Barney's a really good pick for a half-life rep. I'd suggest Eli just because I want to hear him tell stories about what went on at Black Mesa. I'm sure valve wouldn't want to do a bunch of lore dumping in a poker game, but it's a fun idea
What a fantastic deep dive into a terrific series! I have back problems that leave me on the floor sometimes and always return to this game as it works well on my old laptop and now on my phone with steam link. What I would LOVE to see in a future game like this is to fold in modern AI like chatGPT along with those AI voice changers to dynamically bake sessions with characters they can snag rights to. A pipedream I'm sure but it's fun to dream of sitting down to play poker with Obama, Yosemite Sam, Batman and Gordon Freeman 🎉
I think what could heal this country, repair the divide within America's borders, would be a Poker Night 3. Now I wonder what would be the best cast for a 2024 release...
Sunshine Shuffle is a decent spiritual successor. You play against a group of bank robbers and learn about what brought them this point in life. It's set on a small boat.
Funny enough my first ever exposure to this game was on IOS- and I indeed still have the fully-functioning app on my iPhone 11 today.. many years later! Didn't know it was so rare... certainly won't ever delete it now. Great video.
what the?! how did you know to upload this right after i started playing poker night 2 again?! heck last weekend my friend asked me why it's delisted. timing couldn't be better!
Considering balatro pretty much validated strongbad’s flush house, it wouldn’t surprise me if royal butterfly gets referenced at some point if it isn’t made into a real hand.
