That is exactly what happened to me over 19 years ago. I bought my first real returning boomerang, threw it and caught it. Then made a career out of it. Maybe the same will happen with your grandchildren.

adfggffffffddffd different kinds of boomerangs, the famous returning one is actually used to scare birds and keep them low by flying overhead. Aboriginals had some pretty ingenious spear throwers, and their hunting boomerangs were more like a throwing club. Source: I'm an Auzzie, we ride kangaroos to school and throw boomerangs as a school sport :-P

I have 2 type of boomerangs , 1 is regular curve pine press wood and 2 is made by Wham- mo toy company red and yellow frisbee with three blades it the best softy non- wood I used and does just perfect circle back and does throw like a frisbee another ways , I can bend it blades to shift any direction I can throw like a boomerang .

Thats awesome. It sounds like the ones you made that were duplicates that did not fly the same because they were simply tuned different. Any slight bend or warp in the wood will cause erratic flight. I do my best to use the natural bends and warps in my ply wood before I even cut out the boomerang. My hats off to you for all your efforts, good job!

@@VictorPoulin I was told that the two arms of the boomerang were like the wings of an aircraft and should have the same profile or cross section of an aircraft wing. This was the aim on all 4 models. I realised afterwards that how sensitive the boomerang was to slight differences in profile. I had chosen marine ply as the construction material as the consensus at work was that it was very stable and uniform in its manufacture. Every now and then someone would throw it the wrong way round and my memory says it never returned, almost went straight. We realised a special one was needed for a lefty to throw them easily. The ones we built at work had a very high spin rate and trying to catch them at the end of the flight was a no-no due to the energy in the spin. My first one as I said would end up coming down like a sycamore winged seed, almost vertically but slowly and could be caught if you were in the right place to allow it to land in your flat hands. The whole boomerang at work thing lasted a few months in the summer at work. One of the simplest boomerangs available was one made from two of the old style wooden 12 inch rollers held together by elastic bands. Different flight profiles could be introduced by fixing any number of coins at the middle with the elastic bands. The whole thing about return boomerangs is an interesting subject, seemingly especially to blokes.
