Great vlog; it made wonder when the last time I've had a Reuben's...I think it was at Schlossberg's, a deli in downtown Wash., DC; it closed over 10 yrs. ago. I have to find another place to get one, now! Congrats on 14K, Marshall! Here's to 15K!
Marshall, in the Philippines, seniors 60+ get a 20% discount at restaurants. So if you're a senior, show your ID at restaurants. When my American friends come over, they get the discount even with just a California ID. The discount you received in this restaurant is probably that Senior Discount. I enjoy watching your vlogs...keep up the good work.
A Rueben sandwich, is a very popular item in many American deli restaurants all over the US. It's one of my very favorites, and I so miss it! I'll bet that only in Manila will you find it here! Looked delicious!
You must be a Reuben's sandwich then. Classic in style, a gentleman in ur own right and fresh ideas to describe all that you see in my beautiful country. Seriously would like to meet u in person and that would be a delight. How about a meet and greet day like a fans day as we fondly call it here :-)
The Reuben Sandwich is one of my favorites. Most places I go usually grill it and here in the US they add Thousand Island dressing instead of the russian dressing. The sandwich looked delicious. Hope you go back and sample a few more menu items. Cheers
Wow! I can't believe that The Swiss Inn is still open, it looks very different and bright now, it used to have dim lights. Is that still located near the Paco Church wall? 20 years ago we used to hang around there as it is near our bank office in Manila, and the owner of The Swiss Inn during the mid 19902 was our boss in bank. we used to have a tab there spend daily during happy hours, then pay every payday in our office in the bank through salary deduction, as the owner, our boss was the Head of Finance haha. They used to have our favorite there which was Bratwurst and Hungarian sausages as beer match. I wonder if they still have that there?
Just click in from Miami Florida. Informative , back up by facts, your blogs are lighthearted and funny but with a lot of respect to the local culture and people. I like that.
Another superb vlog Marshall! Well done my friend… as always very informative and interesting… hopefully my British husband and I will try that Rueben’s sandwich 🥪 it really look delicious 😋 the waiter is very attentive 👍🏻 Have a lovely weekend ahead! Hugs from 🇬🇧
Am Filipino but never dined in there yet but have tried Reuben sandwich elsewhere. They use sourdough bread. Old Swiss resto not so fancy. Will watch your video to find out if their dish is good.
I used to frequent that place late at night and still hv fond memories of the place. I also often brought Dad before at the Old Swiss Inn for weekend breakfast. Thanks for the blog mate! I think you can be Bangers & Mash I reckon. Cheerios.
Delicious video -- could almost taste it through the screen! Watch your health... and glad you're out enjoying the local and international cuisine again. Hmmm... you're a BLT on lightly toasted sourdough! My Filipina wife and I are retired in the USA and enjoying your travels in and about Manila. She left Manila March 8, 2020 after visiting her family (got out just days before the flights back to the U.S. were canceled -- close call!) 👍
that sanwich looks delicious, but would have prefered it grilled, i alway trow it in the toaster whenever i make sandwich at home....interesting video.
I just discovered that Carnegie Deli had closed in December of 2020, while trying to do a little research before responding to this video. We used to take the Lincoln Tunnel from Secaucus, New Jersey where I used to work at the defunct NYCE Corp., just to get our sandwiches at Carnegie Deli which was within a stone's throw from the famous Concert Hall. The Reuben and Pastrami on Rye were about $10, but the meat was twice as thick as the one you showed. Of course this was about 15 years ago, so one must factor in inflation. My only problem with the Manila prices is how inflated they are. Without the benefit of travel and perspective it is easy to simply fork over the money and ruminate on how your money had been siphoned off your wallet later. It is best to simply enjoy the sandwich while you are having it. I surely hope you found it really satisfying as Reubens are my favorite, together with Pastrami on Rye.
Hahaha. As for me, i subscribed right away the moment i watched the 1st video that i fancied to see being new in you tube. Dont be worried they will all subscribe...more power to ur wonderful vlogs. Btw, where is this located? Ty
Hi Marshall, am a big fan of Rueben's Sandwich. I always have one whenever I go to the commissary at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, I always get the grilled one. Then there is a deli outside of the fort called The Parkway Deli a few blocks away, they offer custom sandwiches but my recommendations are the hot corned beef or the pastrami one. Having said that, Saginaw's at the Circa in Fremont Street, offer both grilled and non-grilled version. Thanks for your vlog, I will try their version (The Old Swiss Inn) of the Rueben's when I can go visit the Philippines in the future.
Marshall, I'm happy to report that I had a reuben sandwich last Mon. evening at a local veterans club that I'm a member of. It wasn't as big as your sandwich, but it was grilled & came with bean soup, not bad for $8!
You should eat your veggies, Marshall. In the UK they "sell" nowadays cardboard veggies in stores (pictures of vegetables on shelves filling up an empty shelf). This is because shortages caused by Brexit. You there in the Philippines have everything and you leave veggies on the plate...
Good evening sir Marshall. You should have tried their famous fresh corned beef and the german pork kniuckles and the hungarian goulash they are also fanous for their various kinds of fondous spcially their cheese fondou 😀 stay safe and bon appetit! Why i know them ? We regualrky went there during the pre pandemic times.
They normally have promos during the Christmas seasons. Try to reserve in advance to have better chance to get more disvounts and freebies. Usually they give free rolls and butter their soft dinner rolls are to die for. And it’s tefillable (you can ask for more if you like) maybe you should contact them first beforehand to adk when is their promos 😊
Here in Chicago We have Manny's Deli which is famous for their Corned Beef and Rueben sandwiches....Since when is Playboy Mag (Another Chicago product) Raunchy? It's the classiest of the Girly Mags...lol
Marshall that is a real modest sandwich and expensive.) For the Phi. Should have received at least a large order of fries with it and larger portions. Although in america that will be probably 16 dlls . Anyway I think you are happy because usually you don't finish all the food so you got no reason to complain.:)
Marshall, at dz Akins in San Diego the sandwiches are avg 20 to 23 DLLs, but they are served a little more robust and with side orders. I don't doubt in Vegas some of the hotels charge 30 DLLs for one. We live in a dystopian World and soon no doubt we will be paying 50 DLLs for 2 slices of bread and a piece of cheese. My advice, stay in the Philippines because by looking at the amount of customers in the restaurant The world insanity will take longer time to arrive over there. Stay safe
A bit disappointed not grilled. Also for P450, that should have come with fries and a coke at least lol. But still looks good. I'm an American so I take my sandwiches seriously hahaha. But I'm also half Filipino so I understand why that sandwich is that way. BTW I love the education you gave us. Interesting story. Hope you do more food vlogs. Oh and also you got me good when you said there are millions of people outside and I thought you were gonna say who are hungry but you said who are unsubscribe! Hahaha. Thanks for the laugh sir. 😉🤗
I have yet to find a good thick pastrami sandwich like they do in the US here in Manila. Even the US chains when they come into the country, they will serve you a sandwich with only 1 or 2 slices. Disappointing.
What do you call a sour German? A Sauerkraut. What do call a Fake Caucasian? A White Rye. What do you call the hole-iest cheese of the Catholics? A Swiss Cheese. The mustard sounds really good, why of course, It's Celine Dijon. When Reuben was told when he ate a Reuben sandwich that "You are what you eat" he replied, "I'm full of myself."
I had a Reuben sandwich from Arby's yesterday. It's no different from what you had there. It was around $10 +. with fries and soda. It was lousy. What can you expect from a Chain food place. I'll find the real one in the city, see if they still make em.
I enjoyed the vid while eating my Gordon Ramsay Steak Sandwich maraming salamat...Marshall l see you as a Honey Lamb Rosemary Sandwich...Manila is sweet/l am a sheep/standing strong and resilient/caught between heaven and hell.
Hi Marshall, I’m part Swiss and live in NYC. I still hope to get to the Philippines to visit and maybe live for some period of time, so enjoy your channel. I appreciated the story about the Reuben, which I have enjoyed from time to time. I think the NY Deli you described was likely like the video I will attach below. These kinds of Delis were an institution in NYC, snd Katz was in my neighborhood and was in my opinion, the best of the the remaining old delis in NYC. The meat comes piping hot fresh out when they cut it. Pastrami sandwiches are what many come for but you can get a variety, and I’d expect that reubens are on the menu. Enjoy, and if you get to NYC, you know where to come ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fLt5cKJelis.html Hey, and guess what I found when I was looking for the Reuben sandwich at Katz ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RCoyEdNrJNU.html
Hi there marshall! How are ya? …come on $9 US dollars is plain cheap ..here in your country just a Mcdonald kiddie meal will cost me A$5… and the burger is a bit samaller and thinner….exchange rate is not too big a difference.! Haha enjoy your meal and enjoy Philippines more! I hope to meet with you when i get back to the PH on Christmas time…see ya mate!
thanks! I did not notice it the first time I watched your vlog. I like your vlog. You're very straight forward. You give a very honest view of things of what is going on in the Philippines.
